Mission We will manage to do this by:

Collaborating with schools and tertiary institutions in order to reach and

develop youth in art and literature

Developing and enhancing students’ writing and performance skills

through an informal platform which will also assist students in presentation

skills and teamwork.

Collaborating with established writers and artists, making them accessible

to their developing counterparts.

Breaking socio-economic boundaries in art and literature by taking the

services to those without prior access.

Challenging the literature and performance status quo through promotion

of contemporary written and oral literature in schools and society as a

whole.

Goals We as an organization aim to:

Break social boundaries between private and public schools that have

been formed.

Create team building skills through the different activities that will be

implemented.

Improve presentation skills as well as innovative thinking otherwise known as

‘thinking on your feet’

Encouraging artistic intelligences that may lead to future business

concepts.

We as an organisation aim to do this through our poetry workshop and as the

years go on we will expand into different fields of art that use education as its

core function.

Company Background

What began as a group of friends with a passion for poetry turned into the platform for what is now Split Image Poetry. The idea to expand the voice of poetry began In the backyard of a Hammanskraalschool known as Prestige College.

At first the idea was to be heard by other students and since then the vision has grown, allowing young and creative voices to enter the minds of this world. It began as a pupil-led organisation and has remained a youth-lead organisation creating a welcoming space for innovation. This society has created a comfortable space for creativity and builds a family environment through art.

Inner Vision poetry workshop Split Image hosted its first of many literature and performance workshops on the

17th of April 2012 Six hours of discussion , group work and collaborative writing.This

workshop was closed off by an astounding performance by Word N’ Sound

poet, KB Kilobyte, who was also our guest facilitator alongside Sally Mpya of

Writer’s Forum.

Kabelo KB Kilobyte has also performed in Zimbabwe, Mauritius and Madagascar

just to name a few.

The structure for the day : 1. Short opening lecture

2.Ice breakers on stage with all attending

3. Formation of groups and theme selection and discussion

4.Writing and workshopping period

5. Showcasing and performance by groups

6.Closing performance

Inaugural Inter-schools Poetry league workshop

Split Image took its first attempt at its concept of an Inter-School

Poetry league in September with participation from several invited

schools to be hosted at the Centurion Town hall in Pretoria.

Our guest facilitators for this workshop were Emmah Mabye: Winner of

‘The Stand For Poetry on the METRO FM & STREPSILS competition and

renowned Johannesburg poetry group-Poetic Justice

The ideal would have been to use the structure of the Inner Vision

workshop as a template to expand our vision to our contemporaries

from local schools.

This event’s execution was unsuccessful and became the group’s

biggest learning curve moving forward

The Summer Open Mic

To close the 2013 year, in the month of October Split Image hosted

an open mic with the intention of bringing new poets onto the stage

who have never before performed in front of an audience.

A mixture of experienced performers supporting ‘new bloods’ in front

of an audience of over 200 people.

This open mic brought together the talents of a live band and

spoken artists as well as a dance performance .

At the end of it all, the session closed with Prestige College alumni,

Marvin Man Lenyora and Chage

Split Image 2014 Writers Workshop Hosted in March ,an important guideline among others in preparing this workshop was

not to compromise quality over a larger attendance for a celebrity artist. This workshop stands out as one of the highlights in Split Image’s growth.

The Summer Open Mic

Hosted in November:

This particular open mic followed the same principle of its 2013 counterpart. Introducing new performers to the stage in front of a large audience.

The majority of new performers for the open mic had been a part of the Split Image Writers Workshop earlier in the year.

Featured a variety of performances other than poetry ; Rap , song and dance as well as beat-boxing

Pop Poetry Challenge

Since the year 2013, Split Image has sent teams to participate in

competitions such as Gauteng’s Pop Poetry Challenge where it

has made significant progress.

In the year 2013, Split image entered 3 teams with the most

successful team reaching the 39th position in a competition that

has over 50 teams participating over a two-day period.

In the year 2014 , Split Image sent 3 teams once more and saw

the most successful team becoming a part of the top twenty of

the rankings over the two-day period of the competition.

Split Image Poetry Society continues to participate in this

competition annual event among others

Valentines Day at V&A Waterfront This was hosted on the 14th of February 2016 and we hosted two shows on

the day one in the afternoon for the Young Poets and one in the evening

for the more prominent poets.

For the this event we hosted an astounding estimate of 750 people for the

day by entertaining them with poetry and live music from different youth

and upcoming poets.

This was Split Images first Public event ever and we had the privilege of

hosting it at one of the biggest malls in South Africa, the V&A was built in

1860 making it a landmark experience for Split Image who classify

themselves as the new kids on the block.

Team Profile

Dali Myles Mayosi-Luthuli Co-Founder and also Facilitator of Split Image Poetry group

Organiser and host of a number of poetry shows

In his own capacity has won numerous international poetry competitions

He also has been published in 9 poetry anthologies all based in the United

States of America

Through the development of the poetry group he has been able to:

Perform on various stages in Gauteng ,amongst others, the Sandton Poetry Shows

and In 2 the Deep poetry sessions.

Released his own Self titled anthology through the Split Image Organisation

Has also been able to perform on Mzansi Insider in 2015

Has led the Organisation to a top three finish in the Lady chaos International

writing competition.

Project Scope

June 16 Youth Day

This is the second (public event) in Split Image Poetry’s line of projects which contribute to the 2016 Project portfolio.

What to expect:

Begins at 15:00 simultaneously in Johannesburg’s Mary Fitzgerald square and Cape Town’s V & A Waterfront.

Opens up with a 5 Km March to honour the actions of our forefathers who died for our freedom.

Joint performance and invitation to Jam Session by student poets and professional poets with an open mic session.

Poetry Jam Session (two-hour session) .

The session will have a host of established poets as well as musicians preparing the stage for the main fixture which will be led by the student poets who will render a variety of performances. Music and art supplementing the poetry on stage.

In Cape Town our march will be from Green Point Stadium to V&A Waterfront

And in Johannesburg we will march from Wits to Mary Fitzgerald square.

Marketing Strategy

April - June During this time period we will implement our marketing strategy for the

event as displayed below:

Video Flasmob: We will be having pop videos playing at CPUT, Wits and

UCT which will be projected as visual effect on the campus on the campus

infrastructure to give a snip bit of what the students can expect.

Poetry Flashmob: We will be performing an announced flashmob around

Cape Town and Johannesburg to create awareness for the project.

Activation: We will be getting into a venture with one of our beverage

sponsors to get our hash tag on the bottles as a marketing as well as

sending smses notifying people of the event.

Social Media: We also plan to use Social media markets like Facebook,

Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest to get people to come as well as to

encourage our fanbase to invite friends and family.

Funding

We are asking for an open end funding as we know any amount will be

appreciated in moving this project forward to bigger and greater places as

we already have in our strategic plan. This will be discussed after the event

has occurred.

Benefits

This project acts as one of the best way to market your brand as it is a CSR

project which aims to uplift the youth.

As the project grows so does the demographics of the project which

increases the amount of people that you reach.

This can also be used as a platform to offer bursaries or scholarships to the

individual students

To implement other CSR projects will be easier as we will have a relationship

with these different schools.

This project will utilize the digital platform to market and gain exposure as

this is the marketing revenue that our students predominately use.

Giving Back initiative

Our main goal is to run workshops on a national level so we can encourage

education as well as innovation and from the previous projects we have

done we have been able to do that on a Pretoria and Johannesburg basis.

We will donate 40% of the income made to an orphanage home in

Johannesburg as well as in Cape Town.
