existing licenses will fail to work and a new Software Key will be required.

Navigate to the Start Menu as shown below:

Step 2: Select the Generate Machine ID application. This will display the following screen:

Server and Client: SPLM Firewall Configuration

The SPLM system uses TCP ports to pass license information from the SPLM Server to the Clients. TCP port 807 is

utilized on the Server to ‘listen’ for requests from the workstation. If a request is made, a random TCP port is

utilized to pass the seat from license machine to client. Since a firewall is used to prevent unauthorized port access,

SPLM has problems working properly with a firewall without a program exception due to the utilization of Random

TCP Ports.

If the user exits the application properly, the license used by the workstation is released back to the pool of licenses

available. Sometimes, when an application process is exited abnormally, the license seat is not returned to the

license manager. A SPLM scavenge routine can be run to find the seats on the network that are currently reserved.

If one is found, the seat can be returned to the pool if it is no longer in use. The firewall prevents the license

machine from retrieving the seat and returns a timed out error message if the program exception is not present in

the firewall on the client and the server. In this case the license is returned automatically after a long time period

has expired.

After installing SPLM on the Server and Clients, the pdlice.exe application needs to be added to the Exception List

for the Windows Firewall on both the Server and Clients. This allows proper scavenging and access to the license

machine. Otherwise, SPLM Clients will receive a SPLM connection timed out message when trying to

communicate to the server and the Server will not be able to scavenge licenses from the client.

1. Select Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall.

2. Click Allow a program through Windows Firewall.

3. Select the Exceptions tab

4. Click Add Program….

5. Click Browse… to find pdlice.exe program (by default it’s located in c:\win32app\ingr\pdlice\bin or

c:\win32app\ingr\splm\bin).

6. Click Browse… to find license.exe program (by default it’s located in c:\win32app\ingr\pdlice\bin or

c:\win32app\ingr\splm\bin).

7. Click Open, then OK from the Add a Program window

8. Verify pdlice.exe appears in the Programs list

9. Select OK to close the Windows Firewall window

Intergraph: SPLM CADWorx and Analysis FAQ

Q: What product licenses are managed with SPLM v10 and above?

A: CADWorx PLANT, CADWorx PLANT Professional, CADWorx P&ID, CADWorx P&ID, CAESAR II, PV ELITE, TANK, PV Fabricator, ISOGEN.

Additional product licenses will be added in future releases.

Q: Where can I find SmartPlant License Manager and other products to download?

A: SmartPlant License Manager is available from the following web page:

https://crmweb.intergraph.com

Select Downloads > Products > SPLM

You do not need a serial number to install SmartPlant License Manager.

Note: Do not update to the latest and greatest without first consulting ECE. A new Machine ID will need to be generated as well as a new Software Key.

Q: What do I need to do to receive a License Key?

A: You need to generate a Machine ID from your license machne and submit it to Intergraph to request a license key from ECE Design. After installing SPLM, you can find this utility “Generate Machine ID” on your Start menu (Programs > Intergraph SmartPlant License Manager).

Q: What is a License Server?

A: The License Server is the computer where the license key is loaded; it can be a standard computer or a server. It requires a static IP address. The license key tells the license machine how many licenses it can issue. Clients of a license machine are computers where SPLM is installed and pointing to the license mServer. The computer where you start the software (such as CADWorx) asks the license machine for a license. If a license is available, the license machine provides it. If all licenses are in use, the client is not granted a license.

Q: What is the Machine ID?

A: The Machine ID is a collection of hardware and software identifies which together allow a machine to be uniquely identified and is used to manage licenses. The information is used to generate the license key and is not useful to other software programs.

Q: Do I need to have SPLM installed in order to generate the Machine ID?

A: No. The utility used to generate the machine identifier is included in the SPLM installation and can be downloaded separately without installing SPLM. It is used to generate the Machine ID, which is used to produce keys for the license machine. SPLM and the new licenses may be installed at the same time, minimizing disruptions or down times.

Q: Do I need to have SPLM installed in order to install a license key?

A: Yes. You need to have SPLM license manager installed in order to install a key.

The version of the key has to match the version of the Machine ID executable.

SPLM SmartPlant

License Manager

You need to run generate Machine ID in order to activate the GUI that allows you to install a key.

Q: Will providing the machine ID make my machine less secure?

A: No. The Machine ID allows the license manager to uniquely identify your machine from a collection of hardware and software identifiers without explicitly publishing your machines TCP/IP address. Since the machine identifier can not be used like a TCP/IP address it is actually more secure than publishing your machines TCP/IP address.

Q: Is my existing key still running if I regenerate the Machine ID?

A: Yes, but you will not be able to reinstall the old key; you will need to request a new key for the new machine identifier.

Q: I currently have SPLM v10 installed. Can I install SPLM v11 on top of this version? What will happen with my current license key?

A: No, you will need to uninstall any of your existing SPLM version first prior installing SPLM v11, because we provided separate SPLM Client and License Machine installation mode in v11. You will not be able to use your license key generated with SPLM v10 after upgrading to SPLM v11. You will need to use Machine ID generated with SPLM v11 to generate a new SPLM v11 license key.
