About the PlaywrightLuke Sorge is incredibly fortunate to get to work with all these talent-ed artists at Miners Alley Playhouse on the world premiere of Zen & the Art of Profit. Other writing credits include Taco Town and Purgastory (both part of the BETC reading se-ries), and National Bohemians, which will be presented by Benchmark The-

atre in late spring as part of their Workbench Project. Luke is also an actor who has appeared in Lungs and Cabaret at Miners Alley and is a proud ensemble member at the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company.

Of the many precepts of mindfulness that the character Jade espouses, she doesn’t talk much about gratitude. Which is interesting, considering it’s the one I’ve felt most keenly throughout this process. Gratitude for Len Matheo, who not only selected the play for Miners Alley’s new season, but directed it so sensitively and helped make it a richer, more efficient script. Gratitude for the cast, Heather and Bill, who transcended so many challenges - condensed rehearsal schedule, difficult script, unconventional production style - to quite literally bring the char-acters to life, and so brilliantly. Gratitude for Bryanna, Johnathan, Liz, and Vance, the stage management and tech and design crew - the tireless behind-the-scenes artists who work so hard to make it all look so easy. Gratitude for Ray Bailey, for capturing the mo-ment and making the ephemeral concrete. Gratitude for ACES, for family, for providing not only support but bottomless inspiration. And most of all, gratitude to be back making theatre again. It’s been a long and trying year – with much yet to overcome. But through it all, I’m proud to be part of the Colorado theatre community. And, of course, forever grateful.

Luke Sorge, Playwright

ALL ARE WELCOME: Inclusion, equity, and diversity are critical val-ues in the mission of SCFD. Residents pay this tax and it is then infused back into nearly 300 diverse cultural organizations in our seven-coun-ty metro region. This funding makes culture in our community available and affordable to all children and adults. You may have noticed that ticket prices at our cultural venues are more affordable than at similar institutions in other states. SCFD reduces the operating expenses of the organizations it supports and allows them to offer lower-cost pricing. There are more than 100 free days offered across the spectrum of cultural organizations each year. Awe and wonder are not only available, but accessible to all.

ENGAGING THE CUBS: Schoolchildren receive significant benefits from the funding of SCFD. On average, students in the seven-county metro area receive eight distinct culture and science-related experiences each year. These enriching educational experiences extend through all 19 school districts across the region. Field trips are more wonderful, thanks to SCFD.

PROTECTION FOR THE FUTURE: Through SCFD, priceless collections of animals, art, plants, natural history and historical sites are being preserved for our children and future generations. Cultural experiences plant a seed within our children that ultimately impacts their growth into higher achieving students and well-rounded adults. SCFD is a tax that pro-vides instant enjoyment, but also builds equity in the character of our people, the quality of life in our community, and invaluable assets for our future.

Thanks to SCFD.
