• BILINGUAL COMPETENCY AWARD:

Seniors: A list of names of students who are candidates for the Bilingual Competency Award is posted on the bulletin board near the AP’s offices. Students must meet the criteria previously explained in order to receive the award. Please see Ms. Mooser in the Career Center on Mondays and Tuesdays if you have any questions.

• Come to the Falcon Award banquet on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00pm, in the cafeteria to support your seniors and to find out which senior won the Falcon Award!

• Attention Seniors! Interested in being a Graduation or Reflections speaker? Sign up to audition in Mrs. Marshall's room (5305). Auditions will be held on May 1 and 2 after school. You must write a 3-5 minute speech for your graduating class. Speeches do not need to be memorized for your audition, but they should be rehearsed.

• Seniors!! The community service deadline is Monday, April 30. Turn in all forms by 3:30pm to the class box in the Library. Yes, you may turn them in early. • Students please remember the basic rules of street-crossing: stop at the corner and look both ways, be aware of your surroundings. Our intersections are not for diagonal crossing. Be safe.

• CV’s Theater Arts presents Moon over Buffalo by Ken Ludwig and directed by Drina Durazo. Starring the incredible Carter Thomas and Casey Murray. Moon over Buffalo will be presented in the Underground Theater for the next two weekends, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from April 12-April 22. Tickets are $8.00 for students, $12.00 for adults.

• Maria Jacobsen Memorial Scholarship Fund is sponsoring its 1st annual essay contest which is open to all high students. The theme for the essay is "In the more than 100 years that have passed since the Armenian Genocide - the first Genocide of the 20th century - which was rooted in bigotry, prejudice, intolerance, persecution, and deportation, what you believe your generation can do to make 'never again' a reality."

• Career Fair 2018 - CV PTSA is proud to be hosting Career Fair 2018 on Tuesday, May 1, 4th through 6th period in the Quad. Come meet and talk to more than 30 professionals (several CV alums) including entrepreneurs, physicians, tradespeople, first responders, engineers, non-profit administrators AND MANY MORE! PLUS there will be some organizations looking to hire for summer and part-time employment and internships. It will be like Amazon for careers! • The presentation by cadets from Air Force ROTC Detachment 60 at USC has been rescheduled for Friday, May 11.

• ~Community Service Opportunity~ The Montrose Library is the recipient of a grant and would like teens to come and give their ideas and opinions about what our community needs. Right now the grant is the “community conversation” stage. This is where the grant team is going out to high schools, teen organizations, and individuals to ask: What kind of community do you want to live in? The first volunteer project will be Operation Paperback where teens will help create care packets of donated books that will be sent to military families across the country. Interested? • Attention all Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors: The Verdugo Creative Technologies Consortium and GCC are hosting a “Saturday Academy” program. The purpose of the Saturday Academy is to motivate and prepare high school and community college students for careers in the high-growth creative, entertainment, and technology industry sectors. • Beatboxing Club is now changed to every Thursday, at lunch, in room 5208. Come bring lunch, a friend, and a water bottle. No experience needed.

• Students who would be interested in learning more about tobacco, e-cigarettes and hookah smoking and how

it affects your health, there is a TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention and Education) program meeting every Tuesday at lunch in room 1106. All are welcome, pizza provided.

COUNSELOR CORNER

• Troy Philippines Outreach Program (TPOP) at USC aims to serve its local community by empowering high school students to find and maximize their potential and guide them towards their professional goals. We achieve this through a combination of community involvement, Filipino values, and academic support. We already have 10 interested mentors who would love to be paired with mentees.

• Attention all students interested in taking Korean: If you are thinking of taking the Korean Language classes and believe you may qualify for higher levels than the entry level, please prepare to take the Korean Assessment on Thursday, April 26, from 3:30-4:30pm in Room 7202. If you have further questions, please contact the Korean teacher, Ms. Song, or talk to your counselor.

• The National Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting a College Fair at the Pasadena

Convention Center on Thursday, April 26 from 6:00-8:30pm. Over 200 colleges and universities will be represented. Students can get more information or pre-register for the event at https://www.nacacfairs.org/attend/national-college-fairs/los-angeles-college-fair/

• College Bound Juniors should register for the spring SAT or ACT so you will have scores available when researching "best fit" colleges/universities. Remember the essay portion is required for the University of California campuses and several private schools. When registering, take advantage of the 4 score reports included in the registration fees to avoid having to pay more later on. SAT subject tests are not required by UC or CSU but students should check other out of state or private college requirements, as needed.

• Ladies: Are you interested in learning about programming, electromechanical and environmental engineering and design? Pasadena Foothills Assoc. of Realtors - is offering (10) $1000 scholarships to seniors graduating from the public high schools in the areas of La Canada, La Crescenta, Sunland/Tujunga, Pasadena & So. Pasadena. Award based on essay describing your future plans, education, field of study, career objectives, values and goals in life. Galpin Ford of North Hills is offering 2 different scholarships to graduating seniors. (1) Boeckmann Family scholarship is awarding ten (10) $1000 scholarships to graduates pursuing a career in the automotive field at either 4yr./2yr. college or ocupational school that specializes in auto mechanics or sales. (2) Armand Arabian scholarship has three (3) $1000 scholarships for students who have made a difference in pursuing a career in military, law enforcement, nursing, physician field or to an individual who has performed something unique through volunteerism and community involvement. Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) scholarship program is designed to offer local government and planning experience that students can use to develop long-term career goals. The Armenian National Committee of America, Glendale Chapter - has established the Upstander Scholarship in order to recognize students who have witnessed injustices occur, and as upstanding citizens, taken steps to address those injustices. Eligible students must be current GUSD graduating high school senior planning to attend an accredited college, university or vocational/trade school and possess good academic standing. Applications are available from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration office or can be submitted online at www.ancaglendale.org/scholarships. Hurry, deadline to apply is April 30, 2018. AMVETS (American Veterans) is the nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization. This organization will be offering two scholarships specific to children/grandchildren of Veterans, Active Duty, Guard/Reserves who are current high school seniors graduating in 2018. Community Scholarship Foundation of La Canada Flintridge, Inc. – offering scholarships to graduating seniors attending any high school within the city of La Canada Flintridge and including Crescenta Valley HS. Applications must have a min. 3.0 GPA, be U.S. citizen. Recipients are selected based on various factors including triumph over an obstacle, hardship or extenuating circumstances, financial need, community service, future promise and academic achievement. Scholarship award can be used at either a 4-yr/2-yr college/university, or trade/technical school. Applications are available from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration office or online at www.csflacanada.org. Deadline is April 30, 2018.

Armenian Relief Society, Talin Chapter - is offering scholarships to graduating seniors of Armenian-American descent. Students must have a min. 3.5 GPA, be active in school and community and have plans to attend a college or university in the fall. Pick up a copy of the application from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration office. Deadline to apply is May 1, 2018. The Canada Auxiliary of Professionals of Assistance League of Flintridge – is offering $2000 scholarships to graduating seniors from CVHS who will be continuing their higher education at a 2-year college or accredited occupational program. Interested students must have a min. 2.5 GPA and prepare a one-page essay addressing your career goals, achievements, and activities. Applications are available from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration Office and deadline to apply is May 4, 2018

NO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE PERMITTED TO ATTEND THE DANCE AND NO ONE AS A GUEST CAN BE 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. You are responsible for the behavior of your guest. Purchasing your Dance ticket(s) is your acceptance that you are promising not to use drugs or alcohol before coming to or during any school activity. You may also be subject to a breath analyzer test. All persons in attendance at the dance are required to maintain modest semi-formal attire at all times. No refunds given to persons refused entry due to dress code violations. All persons are also required to maintain appropriate behavior on and off the dance floor. When bringing a guest to any school activity, you are responsible for his/her behavior. Attendance of any school activity, during and/or after school hours, under the influence of drugs/alcohol or found responsible for damage to property at Crescenta Valley, its staff, its students, and/or the venue, you will be suspended from school, face removal from any co-curricular activity. You may also be denied the right to attend school functions for the remainder of the semester or school year. You may also be required to make restitution for damages.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Tickets sold to CVHS students only. Students must present valid CVHS identification at time of purchase. No students will be allowed into the Dance without presenting identification. Should the date be from another school, he/she must present a valid school picture ID and/or valid California ID. Any changes in information above must be done prior to the dance during school hours. Refund request must be made in writing prior to the dance using the parent/guardians name and address. Refund checks will be issued and mailed to parent/guardian. NO REFUNDS AFTER MAY 11.

Career Fair 2018 - CV PTSA is proud to be hosting Career Fair 2018 on Tuesday, May 1st, 4th through 6th period in the Quad. Come meet and talk to more than 30 professionals (several CV alums) including entrepreneurs, physicians, tradespeople, first responders, engineers, non-profit administrators AND MANY MORE! PLUS there will be some organizations looking to hire for summer and part-time employment and internships. It will be like Amazon for careers! All who attend will receive a free copy of the instructional booklet You & Your First Job. Keep an eye out for more Career Fair 2018 information on CVHS student social media sites!
