Unnecessary water usage in residen-al irriga-on systems can waste a devasta-ng amount of fresh water. The ul-mate goal is preven-ng unnecessary water loss. SENSCO is a startup devoted to leaving the world be^er than we found it by tackling important social issues such as water conserva-on. According to the EPA, households in the U.S. consume a total of 29 billion gallons of water. Homeowners use about 30-60% of their water outdoors. 50% of this water is wasted due to overwatering. Depending on the area this could be amount to around 25$ a month. CONSTRAINTS Range of sensor network is limited by wireless communica-on technology. Lower frequencies for higher range. Data rates can be low. Ba^ery life for wireless modules. Ini-ate sleep mode when possible. Mul--year ba^ery life User must be able to install in their yard. Requires internet access router for WiFi. As user base increases, larger amounts of cloud based data storage are required. FUTURE (EXPANSION) Incorporate large agricultural databases to generate specific watering schedules for many types of grasses, trees and other garden plants. Expand system to work in agriculture and municipali-es. U-lize macro-nutrient soil analysis hardware. Install inline liquid fer-lizers and automate lawn and garden fer-liza-on. INTERFACE SOFTWARE Microsof Azure Cloud Virtual Machine Windows 10 IoT Core XCTU Arduino IDE USER INTERFACE System State Interface Valve control Ac-ve/Inac-ve Data Collec-on Sampling/Not sampling Browser interface Real Time Data Display Monitoring sensors Data Collec-on Previous data of watering cycles ACTION CRITERIA MARKET The business team surveyed 64 people with the majority of them in the 30-49 year range making $150k+ annually. Of the par-cipants: The majority live in a home and property size varies. 69.1% claim that water conserva-on is very important and try to implement changes in their behavior to aid with water conserva-on. 21.1% say they are concerned but can’t do anything about it. The majority maintained their own yards (62.9%) and were mostly male (65.7%). 34 claim to have an irriga-on system, 55% say that it waters specific zones and 37% say monitors water usage. 29.6% also claim it monitors weather condi-ons. The trend for a possible cost seems to be along the $1,000 - $5,000 range, with quite a few people saying they would pay $500. The age range of 30-60+ seemed to be the most likely customers.
