GENI is a Virtual Laboratory

• GENI’s main goal is to enable a wide variety of research across multiple disciplines in computer science and domain sciences

• Even as we continue to build out, GENI is already supporting ongoing experiments in a variety of areas– I will show some examples drawn mostly from cloud computing

and networking research. – See Ilia Baldine’s and Mike Zink’s talks today for some domain

• Current phase of growth to 40-50 campuses, followed by 100-200 campus at scale deployment offer major research capability

• Virtual Desktop Cloud is exploring improved desktop cloud implementations via programmable networking methods– Using GENI resources to provide multiple data paths and desktop

hosting locations; OpenFlow network to support intelligent load balancing and flow management with “marker packets”
