Confrontation and Dialogue: A History of Catholic-Muslim Relations
This presentation proceeds on the premise that the history of Christian-Muslim relations is one of two distinct, yet oftentimes intersecting narratives. The first is a story of confrontation and conflict, and the second one of dialogue and cooperation. In the course of reviewing these two narratives, the presentation will place particular emphasis on the important differences betweenthe language of "heresy" and the language of "dialogue" in the history of Christian-Muslim interaction. It will then go on to point out the revolutionarydimensions of the Catholic Church's approach to interreligious relations articulated at the Second Vatican Council and developed in the pontificates of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

Pastoral planning like this need not be encumbered by endless meetings and drafts. And we need not wait until we have an entire plan written to begin launching elements of it. Such planning can be practical, enjoyable, and effective. You'll learn in this session how to add planning like this to your parish liturgy, religious education, pastoral care, youth ministry, or school program. This will make a real difference in the lives of parents, their children, youth and adults in general. Participants will receive a planning tool which can be adapted for any parish.
