The KC Charity Fish Fry Friday, March 31st!

Mark your calendars now!

Knight Letter

Grand Knight’s Column

From your Grand Knight: Here we are about half way through winter with the month of February ahead of us. In just about 4 weeks (March 1, Ash Wednesday) will be the beginning of Lent, and I know that I am preparing myself for this holy season and the celebration of Easter. What are you going to do? Each of us has our own way to celebrate from fasting, meditating, and limiting our consumption of meat. Many of us will be sharing time with others on Fridays going out to eat fish at our favorite restaurant, but don’t forget to say grace and thanks for all we have. Also take time to give back to others less fortunate then we are by bringing a cash or food donation the next time you come into the KC Center. Remember that there is a shopping cart that you can drop your food or cash into as you enter the facility. Tim George will make sure it gets to the right person for distribution. I personally will give cash as it will go further then food staples. Another great day took place this last Saturday (January 27) as we had 5 of our members travel to New Holstein to participate in their 2 and 3rd Degree Initiation. Please welcome our latest Knights when you see them, Dino Castillo, Bob Gundrum, Tom Gruenke, Matthew (Matt) Rostollan, and Jim Tarnowski. For all of you 1st and or 2nd Degree members there is going to be another ceremony in March, so please contact me at [email protected] or 920-980-5494) so that we can get you scheduled as soon as possible. All of you were encouraged early in your membership to become full Brother Knights and this is another unique time and it will be close to home again.

The Council 722 Food Drive is ongoing. Please bring your nonperishable items to meetings and

burger nights. Cash donations are also accepted. Chairman Tim George 920-860-3405

Chaplain’s Column Brother Knights and Families,

Blessed “LOVE” Month February 2nd was the feast of the Presentation of Jesus. We celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th and on the 20th President’s Day. How do we show our love for country in this difficult time of transition? This is taken from a website entitled “Bible Study Site” In 313 A.D., Roman Emperor Constantine the Great legalized Christianity and ended Rome’s persecution of Christians. In 380 A.D., Christianity became the official state religion of the Roman Empire. These actions not only enabled the teachings of Christianity to spread unhindered within the empire, it encouraged non-Christians to convert to the once-persecuted religion. The pagans, however, who adopted Christianity as their religion, did not entirely abandon the traditions and practices they held before their “conversion.” One of these transitions brought into the church was the fertility celebration known as Lupercalia, which eventually became the Valentine’s holiday. The Lupercalia festival was partly in honor of Lupa, the she-wolf who (according to legend) nursed the infant orphans Romulus and Remus. Roman legend states that Romulus and Remus founded the city of Rome in 753 B.C. The pagan festival was also in honor of the Roman god Lupercus who was the god of shepherds. Twenty-fours years after the death of Emperor Anthemius, a “Christianized” form of the festival of Lupercalia was officially adopted by the church as a time to honor St. Valentine. In 496A.D., Pope Gelasius named February 14th as the patron saint of lovers. The Catholic Church recognized at least three different martyred saints named Valentine or Valentinus. Because of the situation in 1969 Pope Paul VI removed the feast from the calendar. In the love of Christ! Fr. Dick

Additionally, as we move forward, our Seafood Buffet held on January 27th seemed to be a great success and we will have another one in the future but it will not conflict with our Friday night Fish Fry. Next we are working on another Family night and as the time is confirmed will get it out to all members and guests. And finally, it is my desire to get the Trivia night back up and running with regular events scheduled for the future, but this will require help from our members for this to happen. Any and all funds raised from these events will go to our charity account for use in the local community. Remember what the Knights are all about Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.

In Christ’s Name, GK Lawrence (Larry) Lenhardt

Fourth Degree News From Your Faithful Navigator

Sir Knights and Ladies, February is here and we are well into our cold and snowy winter season. But we can look on the bright side – the days are getting longer and February is the shortest month of the year. We also have several special days this month to help lift our spirits – the Presentation of the Lord on Feb. 2nd, the Feast of St. Blaise on Feb. 3rd and Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14th. The month of February is traditionally dedicated to the Holy Family. The entire month falls within the liturgical season of Ordinary Time which is represented by the liturgical color green – which is the symbol of hope. Our two main Assembly events are quickly approaching. The Annual 4th Degree Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Sunday, March 12th, 2017 at the Sheboygan KC Center. We are looking for all able Knights and Ladies to help make this event a success. Then we have the Eastern District 4th Degree Exemplification that is scheduled for Saturday, April 1st, 2017 in Green Bay. If you know of any 3rd Degree members that may be interested in advancing to the 4th Degree, please contact myself or any of the other 4th Degree officers. We are now accepting applications for our annual Firefighter/Police Officer Scholarship. The deadline for applications is May 1st. If you know of anyone who is eligible please have them contact Sir Knight Jim TenPas. Our next Assembly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the KC Center in Sheboygan. We will start with the social at 6:00PM and the dinner/meeting at 7:00PM.

Vivat Jesus!

willing to share. The Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation (WRISA) announced on December 19, 2016 the accreditation of Christ Child Academy. The press release states: “Christ Child Academy has proven compliance with WRISA education standards and is a member in good standing. We applaud the accomplishments of the Christ Child Academy community and its commitment to ongoing school improvement and high standards of excellence,” remarked Beatrice Weiland, WRISA’s executive director. The CCA 8th grade science class and Mrs. Raff visited Spaceport Sheboygan recently. The fieldtrip offered a hands-on space experience which included a guided docent tour, science on a sphere (a big globe that projects science data) and a classroom science activity. This enhances the science curriculum of the earth science unit which focuses on the study of space; including stars, galaxies, formation of the solar system and planets. The entrance fee to Spaceport Sheboygan was generously covered by the Gartmans, of the SPC parish family. Seton The students at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School were very busy during the month of January! Here are a few of the great activities they accomplished: Pre-K students made wishing wands to welcome in the New Year– their wishes for the New Year were both sweet and hilarious! They also heard stories about animals in winter and acted the stories out

Congratulations to Cecilia Richter (gr. 2), who earned 1st place for her grade level in the Knights of Columbus poster contest, “The True Meaning of Christmas”. The 2nd place qualifiers were Olivia Schroeder (gr. 1) and Jack Polzin (gr. 2); and 3rd place qualifier was James Schulze (gr. 2). This contest was open to grades 1 through 4, and the Knights of Columbus received over 200 entries. What a great job to the students who placed, and to all those who participated in the poster contest. This is a great representation for Christ Child Academy! The CCA 8th grade class will be attending the annual 8th Grade Retreat at Roncalli High School this week Wednesday, January 11th. The retreat provides an opportunity to celebrate the real-life disciples that each and every one of us can be. Christ Child Academy recently held the school level of the 2017 Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Jack Antonie, a 6th grader, who is the school champion and will be competing at the Regional Level Spelling Bee held at Acuity on Thursday, January 19th. The 2017 Calendar Raffle sale has concluded. Thank you to everyone who supported CCA by purchasing calendars. The number of calendars sold totaled 1328 and equates to a profit of about $15,000. Good luck to everyone throughout the year in having your name selected. National Catholic Schools Week begins with Mass on Saturday, January 28 and continues through Friday, February 3. The week’s theme, “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service,” focuses on the core of Catholic education. themselves or with puppets. Kindergarten students learned about the Sacrament of Baptism, brought in pictures of their own baptism, and created a poster that showed all about their special day. They also learned about the artic animals, polar bears and penguins. 1st Grade students learned about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and wrote their own wish for, “If I Had A Dream…” They discovered which items in their classroom are transparent or opaque and they have begun to study about and learn the names of the Twelve Apostles. 2nd Grade students worked hard in math to master adding 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping. Medjugorje Message

Our Lady appeared to Mirjana Soldo today, February 2nd, 2017, and delivered the following message: “Dear children; You who are striving to offer every day of your life to my Son, you who are trying to live with Him, you who are praying and sacrificing - you are hope in this peaceless world. You are rays of the light of my Son, a living gospel, and you are my beloved apostles of love. My Son is with you. He is with those who think of Him - those who pray. But in the same way, He is patiently waiting for those who do not know Him. Therefore, you apostles of my love, pray with the heart and with your works show the love of my Son. This is the only hope for you, and this is also the only way to eternal life. I, as a mother, I am here with you. Your prayers directed to me are the most beautiful roses of love for me. I cannot but be where I sense the scent of roses. There is hope. Thank you.".”
