SPONSORSHIP Proposal
2018
2St Patrick's Day Parade Association Incorporated 2018
To whom it may concern,
It is my pleasure to offer you the opportunity to become a festival sponsor for the 2018 Brisbane Irish Festival and the St Patrick’s Day Parade to be held on Saturday, the 17th of March 2018.
As President of the Association that organises the event, I believe there are great opportunities becoming partners and raising the profile of the festival. St Patrick’s Day is celebrated around the world, and we want to ensure we ‘paint the town green’ and encourage EVERYONE in Brisbane to be Irish for a day.
The fun and friendliness associated with the day and the positive interest of the media provide a perfect opportunity for sponsors to share in the goodwill generated. The potential benefits to your business are outlined in the following pages of this document.
The Parade is already a fixture on the Brisbane events calendar, and is now growing to become a bigger event, with entertainment, food and ‘craic’ for everyone in South East Queensland, and the Irish community across Australia to enjoy.
I am looking to develop and expand the Parade into a whole day celebration of all things Irish. In 2017, we trialled having entertainment and food in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens before and after the Parade, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
The Parade in Brisbane dates back to 1885, pre-dating the Dublin parade by 46 years. It is also part of a week of festivities involving Irish sport, business, music, culture and social welfare: the Brisbane Irish Festival.
Already supported by three levels of government – the Irish, Queensland and Brisbane Local Government – we want to work with a company like yours to make the event one that the whole nation takes notice of.
On behalf of the St Patrick’s Day Parade Association Inc, I appreciate your consideration of our proposal for festival sponsor. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact me, or the Association’s Vice President, Gavin Roche, on 0405 423 338 or [email protected], if you require any further information.
Yours Sincerely,
Seamus SullivanPresident – St Patrick’s Day Parade Association Inc0419 703 923

The Queensland Irish CommunityThe continued growth of the Irish population in Australia, particularly in Queensland, highlights the
importance of an event that incorporates a broad spectrum of Irish culture, and which provides Brisbane residents with valuable learning experiences and community activities. This is exactly the purpose behind the St Patrick’s Day Parade and the larger Brisbane Irish Festival – it is also for this reason, combined with
the steady rise of immigration figures that the parade is proving to be one of the most popular annual celebrations on the Brisbane events calendar.

Parade OverviewThe St Patrick’s Day Parade is a long-standing annual event that promotes and
celebrates the occasion of St Patrick’s Day, Irish culture and its contribution to the state of Queensland for the past 29 years. Flooding the inner-city district with a
colourful convoy of more than 40 floats and displays representing Irish culture that provide free community-oriented entertainment for all ages. But the Parade is more than just a march, it is a celebration that lasts the whole day and well into the night.
2017’s St Patrick’s Day Parade attracted approximately 20,000 onlookers into Brisbane’s CBD to watch the event. The proposed event is expected to attract more spectators than in 2017 due to the Parade falling on St Patrick’s Day in 2018.
The St Patrick’s Day Parade is organised by the St Patrick’s Day Parade Association Inc. This group organises the Parade, as well as promoting the 7 day Brisbane Irish Festival, which surrounds the parade. Some of 2017’s festival events included the Gaelic Family Sports Day, an Irish Traditional Music Night, Charity Ball and much more.
The Brisbane Irish Festival continues to grow in popularity, as well as size, now involving the greater Brisbane district. It is hoped that with your help the festival will continue to grow, offering residents and visitors within Queensland a vibrant major community event.
Picnic in the Gardens (pictured above)In 2017, the Parade also partnered with one of Brisbane’s preeminent event organisers to provide beverages, food, crafts and live music before and after the parade at the ‘Picnic in the Gardens’. This was hugely successful and encouraged those going to the Parade to celebrate into the afternoon. We intend to improve and grow this event and encourage more engagement and interaction on the day.
When and WhereThe St Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Saturday March 17, 2018 at 10:30am. More than 700 parade participants will assemble in the city. Participants range in age and interest groups, representing the broad spectrum of Irish community within Queensland. In previous years this has included groups such as the Queensland Gaelic Football Association, Brisbane Irish Rugby Club, Hurling and Camogie teams and The Irish Australian Support Association. This group organises the Parade, as well as promoting the 7 day Brisbane Irish Festival.
Exposure relates not only to the Irish community involved, but additionally to the range of demographics represented by the crowds of 20,000 spectators expected to attend the event. This group includes both Brisbane residents, as well as tourist visitors to the state and vary in both cultural background and age group.

5St Patrick's Day Parade Association Incorporated2018 2018
2018 ProposalThe proposed Brisbane Irish Festival 2018 is to be modelled on the 2017 event.
The week-long Brisbane Irish Festival will begin, as is tradition, with the Brisbane Irish Festival Ball. This event is hosted in aid of the Irish Australian Support Association
Queensland (IASAQ).
For marketing and promotional purposes, the St Patrick’s Day Parade, and all the events that occur that day, will be incorporated into the Brisbane Irish Festival.
Operational costs, sponsorship and relevant logistics for the St Patrick’s Day Parade will continue to be controlled by the St Patrick’s Day Parade Association Inc.
Objectives And MilestonesThe required objectives and milestones for the corporate sponsorship initiative are as follows:
● Support in the successful staging of the St Patrick’s Day Parade as a free community event.
● The promotion of Irish culture, heritage and achievements, as well as recognition of the Irish community’s contribution to the development of Queensland.
● A high level of positive Brisbane and metropolitan media exposure.
BenefitsThere is an abundance of economical, social and environmental benefits to the successful staging of the St Patrick’s Day Parade.
Due to the large number of spectators that are drawn from across the state into Brisbane’s CBD to enjoy the event, significant financial and economic benefits are expected. Largely these relate to the dramatically increased sales of food and beverages that are expected for Brisbane’s inner city hotels, bars, restaurants and entertainment venues following the 2018 parade on Saturday March 17, 2018 and during the festival week.
As a large-scale cultural community event, the St Patrick’s Day Parade also makes a contribution to the Brisbane tourism industry. An opportunity for inter-state or overseas visitors to involve themselves in community events, the St Patrick’s Day Parade welcomes guests from out of town to join in with Brisbane residents in a celebration of one of the largest migrant groups in the country.
Strong Government Support2017 saw a noted increase in parade participants with the total marching figures reaching more than 700. Attendance figures were equally impressive with an estimated 20,000 people venturing into the Brisbane CBD to view the parade and enjoy the celebrations. Without the support of key sponsors Brisbane City Council, The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Multicultural Affairs Queensland (Dept. of Communities), this event would not have been possible.*
A wide range of corporate sponsors were also obtained in 2017 and the St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is in discussion with previous and potential sponsors regarding the 2018 event.
Communications and Marketing PlanPR and marketing activities for the St Patrick’s Day Parade 2018 will be arranged by the St Patrick’s Day Parade Association Inc. The intended marketing structure of the Brisbane Irish Festival is expected to follow a similar structure to previous year’s events, with advertising expected in media that include the festival website, Social Media, The Courier Mail, City News, Channel 7, Irish Queenslander, Brisbane Marketing, 4EB and 4KQ. A PR summary report for 2018’s event is also expected following the completion of the Brisbane Irish Festival.
2018 will also see the festival benefit from an updated website, larger social media presence and planned social media campaigns.
*Government support will be acknowledged in marketing material alongside sponsors such as the program, posters, flyers, social media and the website.
