The world-famous San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park houses more than 3,500 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies.
The San Diego Zoo was a pioneer in the concept of open-air, cageless exhibits that re-create natural animal habitats. In 2013, the zoo added a new Australian Outback exhibit, providing an updated Australian animal experience. Another new exhibit, called Africa Rocks, opened in 2017.
For more than a century, people have � ocked to the San Diego Zoo to discover animals. The Zoo connects people with wildlife to inspire a passion for nature.
San Diego Zoo Kids reaches children globally through the website at kids.sandiegozoo.org. The program also helps young patients in hospitals and other facilities through programming on the San Diego Zoo Kids channel—a television adventure network that brings the Zoo to children when they need it most.
With over 4 million visitors, San Diego Zoo is the most visited zoo in the United States.
