Introduce your organisation to the World of Rural Health!

We invite you to consider the opportunities offered in this prospectus, and encourage you to consider

participation in a unique and significant event. Showcase your organisation’s achievements and

offerings and raise your profile to a national and international audience from within the rural and

remote medical sector.

About the event

The 14th WONCA World Rural Health Conference will be held at the Cairns Convention Centre in

tropical North Queensland, Australia from Saturday 29 April – Tuesday 2 May 2017.

This international event will see delegates from around the world exchange information on the latest

developments and challenges in rural family practice and rural and remote health generally. The last

WONCA Rural Health Conference held in Australia was in Melbourne in 2002.

The event is expected to attract 900+ national and international delegates. These will include rural

doctors, researchers and academics, teachers, doctors-in-training, medical students and policy

makers and administrators from both the public and private sectors.

The program will include a wide range of plenary sessions and workshops, and a number of excellent

national and international keynote speakers.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 14th WONCA World Rural Health Conference.

About WONCA

The World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA) is a not-for-profit organisation with 118

member organisations in 131 countries and territories. The WONCA Working Party on Rural Practice

consists of up to 20 members with representatives from each of the world's regions: Europe, Asia,

Africa, North America, South America, Australasia / Pacific.

The WONCA Working Party on Rural Practice vision is health for all rural people around the world.

About your event host

The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), in recognition of its leadership and

success in championing rural practice, is proud to have been selected to host this significant event on

the national and international 2017 Medical Conference Calendar.

The Australia College of Rural and Remote Medicine is the only specialist medical college in the world

that is wholly dedicated to training and supporting rural and remote medicine. It is headquartered in

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

ACRRM is a member-based, not-for profit professional college that recognises the significant

leadership roles that rural doctors play in the health, sustainability and social cohesion of their

communities. The organisation benefits from the strong involvement of its rural practitioner members.

Fellowship of ACRRM (FACRRM) is unique. FACRRM covers a broader scope of training for rural and

remote general practice. This unique qualification verifies that a Fellow has achieved the levels of

experience, knowledge and advanced skills - such as surgery, obstetrics, anaesthetics, or emergency

medicine - to work unsupervised anywhere - particularly in rural and remote areas.

About the venue

The award-winning Cairns Convention Centre is only 7km (10 minute drive) from the Cairns

International Airport. There are direct flights from all Australian capital cities with Qantas, Virgin Blue

and Jetstar in and out of this airport.

The Cairns Convention Centre is designed to minimise its impact on the natural environment – which

includes the Great Barrier Reef and ancient tropical rainforests – while providing a very contemporary,

functional venue for presenting the latest updates in rural medical practice.

Our exhibition space will be located in Hall 2 of the Convention Centre – an area easily accessible to

all delegates for catering breaks and exhibition visits and support. We also plan to feature a range of

artists, performers, artisans and other interesting ‘drawcards’ to the exhibition area.

About the location

The tropical city of Cairns is located on the north east coast of Queensland and boasts being situated

where the rainforest meets the reef. It is the only location where two World Heritage-listed areas are

side-by-side.

Delegates are encouraged to make the most of their time in Cairns, Queensland and take a look

around for a few days before or after the conference. Click below for exciting things to see and do
