This degree provides a strong scientific foundation in sportand exercise-related sciences and an understanding of howthese relate to human performance and health.

Work Placement (optional)

You can apply to spend 9 to 12 months on an optionalwork placement between Stages 2 and 3. You can applyto spend your placement year with any organisation andwill receive University support to do so. It will extend yourdegree by a year and is subject to availability. Teaching and assessmentYou'll learn through a combination of lectures, practicallaboratory classes and small group seminars.

The entrance requirements below apply to 2019 entry.

A LevelsAAA–AAB including at least one from Mathematics, Physics,Chemistry, Biology or Human Biology, Physical Educationand Psychology.

Use of Mathematics, World Development, Communicationand Culture, General Studies and Critical Thinking notaccepted.

At least five GCSE grades A*-B (or 8-6) required, includingMaths and English Language.

Scottish QualificationsAAAAA-AAABB at Higher grade including at least one fromMathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or HumanBiology, Physical Education and Psychology. Mathematicsand English required at National 5, minimum grade B (orgrade 2 Standard Grade or Intermediate 2 equivalent) if notoffered at Higher grade.  Where a candidate bypasses theassessment for National 5 qualifications, a minimum ofgrade C in the Highers in Maths and English is required.

Scottish qualifications can be taken in more than one sitting.

International Baccalaureate34-35 points with at least one science at Higher Level grade5 or above. Standard Level Mathematics or MathematicalStudies required at grade 4 or above if not offered at HigherLevel.

Sport and exercise science graduates have a number ofcareer options including jobs in the following:

Graduates with a strong background in sport and exercisescience are ideally suited to fulfill emerging roles that overlapthe fields of medicine, exercise and health promotion.

With an exercise science-related degree, you could also:

• undertake medical and health-related research inuniversities and research institutes

• work in hospitals and public health laboratories• take a further degree (either an MSc or PhD qualification)

before embarking on permanent employment

Our graduates also embark on careers unrelated to thebiomedical sciences, for example, in management,accountancy, and IT.
