SPORT LEVEL 3

EXAM BOARD: EDEXCEL

WHY CHOOSE BTEC SPORT L3?This course is aimed at students who want to develop their understanding and knowledge of sport, health and fitness as well as those who enjoy taking part in sport. It is suited to those students who have a desire to work in the sporting industry in the future.

OVERVIEW OF BTEC SPORTThis is a two year course and over the two years you will study four units. Two of these units will be externally assessed (written exam); one at the end of year one and the other at the end of the second year. The other two units will be assessed internally through various coursework projects.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSGCSE PE Grade C or above

BTEC Sport L2 - Merit overall and Mert L2 on the online exam

English C or above; or equivalent.

If you have not completed GCSE PE or BTEC L2 your Core PE teacher will be asked to advise on your suitability for the course.

Please note this is a two year course if you do not continue with the course for the second year you will not gain a qualification.

FUTURE OPTIONSStudents study BTEC Sport can go on to study such courses as Sports Science; Physiotherapy; Sports Management; Sports Development; Exercise Prescription at University. Careers this course could lead to are Teaching; Physiotherapy; Journalism; Coaching; Sports Nutrition; Sports Development and other such sport related jobs.

THE UNITS YOU WILL STUDY:Year One (Year 12)Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology (GLH 120)

In this unit you will learn about how the human body works, its makeup and the different systems our body has (skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory). You will learn about how the human body works during exercise and how exercise affects the human body. You will also look at energy systems.

Assessed: 90 min written exam 90 marks

Unit 7: Practical Sports Performance (GLH 60)

In this learn about the rules, regulation for selected sports, the roles and responsibilities of officials. You will explore the skills, techniques and tactics of selected sports as well as developing your own performance. You will take part in both team and individual sports.

Assessed: Internally assessed via a number of different assignment. Some may be practical and others may be

Year 2 (Year 13)Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing (GLH 120)

In this unit you will look at lifestyle factors as well as health screening procedures in order to made recommendations for individuals to improve their health and wellbeing. You will then have to develop a fitness training programme.

Assessed: Set Task, 2 parts. Part A: You will be provided with a case study 2 weeks before a supervised assessment in order to carry out research. Part B: The supervised assessment period is 2 hours, written submission. 60 marks.

Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry (GLH 60)

In this unit you will research the different possible careers and the associated job roles in the sports industry, then action plan your development towards achieving a selected career aim. You will analyses your own skills and identify how to develop them into a career through the use of a career plan. You will research your chosen career to understand how to access and progress within it.

Assessed: Internally assessed via a number of different assignment. Some may be practical and others may be written.
