Robotics (ages 8 to 10)

Use The LEGO® Mindstorm Invention Kit to design and build a robot. The RCX programming code used by LEGO® was developed with the MIT Media Lab. Find out if your robot can navigate through the maze! On the last day of this camp, teams will compete, operating robots through a challenging obstacle course.

Advanced Robotics (ages 11 to 14)

Adding to the activities in the Robotics camp, this advanced robotics camp uses C Code to program your robots to perform specific sequences and operations. Also included is an exploration of the VEX Robotics Design System.

Wizardry School (ages 8 to 15)*

In this camp based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling novels, campers will be sorted into the Houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, or Hufflepuff. Dark arts, potions, and herbology are included activities. Design your own newsletter, modeled after the “Quibbler” or “Daily Prophet” and learn how to play Quidditch the Penn State way! On the last day of camp, friends and family are invited to cheer campers on during the Quidditch Tournament as they vie for the coveted Quidditch Cup! *Campers must have read at least the first novel, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone®”, to be accepted into Hogwarts School at Penn State Beaver. Demigod’s Quest Camp (ages 7 to 13)*

Could you have hero-potential? Immerse yourself in Greek mythology and fulfill your destiny silencing the constant hounding of mythological creatures. Based on the famous “Percy Jackson & the Olympians®” novels* campers will be sorted into the cabins of their parent-god: Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Poseidon, Hermes, Hephaestus or Hades and then transformed into demigods! Projects will include potion making; Greek mythology; war journalism; literature; and art. Coding CampAcquire basic programming skills, create computer programs with loops and events, and write algorithms for everyday tasks. Using code.org students will learn to collaborate with others in meaningful ways to investigate different problem-solving techniques; persist in the face of difficult tasks; and learn about internet safety. This camp also teaches important critical thinking skills necessary to gain a better understanding of computer science.

Kids Learn to Cook (ages 7 to 10)

This camp, directed by Penn State Beaver chefs, will provide hands-on cooking lessons for children in a deliciously fun and educational way. Campers will have the opportunity to explore the campus’ Bistro and the industrial cooking equipment used there. The last day, campers will share foods they have made from a mystery basket. Family members are welcome to attend at the end of the last day.

Crime Scene Investigation (ages 9 to 14)

Role-play as detectives and scientists working in teams to investigate a simulated crime scene. Campers will also use a mathematical deduction and scientific reasoning skills to solve the crime.

Activities may include sustainable gardening, rope making, wood crafting, fiber projects and more.
