Special Olympics
Special Olympics is a global inclusion movement using sport, health, education and leadership programs every day around the world to end discrimination against and empower people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968, the Special Olympics movement is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the start of the next 50 years begins right here in Abu Dhabi.
Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019
Taking place under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world this year.
Set to be the most unified Games in the 50-year history of Special Olympics, involving people with intellectual disabilities in every aspect of the event, the World Games will welcome over 7,500 athletes and 3,000 coaches from 192 nations.
A Cultural Olympiad of events taking place around the capital in celebration of the Games includes concerts, the Global Youth Summit, the Global Inclusion Forum, the Mother of the Nation festival and much more entertainment for all the family to enjoy.

Making History
Abu Dhabi is the first destination in the Middle East & North Africa region to host a Special Olympics World Games. The Games will not only host a record number of nations, 192 in total, but it will also welcome the highest number
of female participants at a World Games and the largest number of Unified Partners, people without intellectual disabilities who play sport in Unified teams with Special Olympics athletes.

Anyone and everyone can be Fans In The Stands! Whether you are a student, work in a corporate entity, an embassy or a government department, we need your support. The athletes need your support. The UAE needs your support! With sports competitions taking place all day, every day from 15-20 March across 9 venues in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, there is always something happening to suit everyone!
What’s more, you can enjoy entertainment in our festival areas and a host of other events taking place in celebration of the World Games. And the best thing is that tickets are free!

‘Fans In The Stands’ is your chance to show your creative side. Bring banners, flags, colorful outfits and make some noise to show your support for the amazing athletes coming to the UAE. Our athletes love nothing more than to be cheered and supported. Your voice will make a di�erence!
Nominate one ‘captain’ for your organisation
Your captain should contact their Special Olympics representative for a registration link
After registration, tickets will be issued to your captain on their release date
Your captain should coordinate travel arrangements and ensure your group turns up at least one hour prior the start of the competition event
Don’t forget to bring your banners and your loudest voices to cheer on the athletes!
