Feast Of The Sacred Heart On Friday the 27th June 2017 it was the feast day of the Sacred

Heart of Jesus. The whole school went to church to honour this

special feast day, as our school is named after this important per-

son. We are very lucky at school as we all get an ice-cream or an

ice-lolly to celebrate this very special day. One of our LID

groups designed a heart to commemorate this feast day. The

teachers then chose the most amazing design to be displayed in

the library.

Goblin Kit Car On the 20th May 2017, some of the YR5 children took part in the Gob-

lin Kit Car. This is a project that helps children to understand more

about recycling as the kit cars were made out of recycled goods. Sacred

Heart School was one of eight schools that took part in the project.

Each team had to create and make their very own racing car using recy-

cled materials. Once the cars were built they competed in three races: a

drag race, a slalom race and a sprint race.

Our school won four awards. We won an award for best bodywork, we

came 3rd place in the slalom race, 3rd place in the drag race and finally

each team that took part received a participation award.

The YR5 children who took part in

this project were :

5LK - Jake Young, Jack O’Donnell,

Bianca Banko, and Tharuk Geeganage.

5HC - Grace O’Malley and Veronica

Milkowski.

Congratulations to all those YR5

children who took part!

On the 6th of February 2017 our school, and thousands of others,

went to the O2 Arena to perform in the Young Voices concert. Mrs

Gibbs, Miss Abela, Mrs Waller and Mrs Cullen came with us to the

O2. Only sixty pupils from KS2 could attend. They were from

years 3, 4, 5 and 6. When we got there we saw loads of schools sit-

ting outside the O2. It was huge!

Eve in YR5 stated that “My favourite part was when we were per-

forming. It gave me a chance to meet new people and have fun

whilst singing and dancing.” “My favourite part was when I was

performing” said Connie from YR5. Birdhouse In Your Soul, Pop Medley and Five Guys Named Mo were

some of the songs that we preformed live.

We left school around quarter past nine in the morning and arrived at

twelve mid-day. When we arrived we had our lunch and were laughing

and giggling. At two thirty we performed to our parents and carers. There

were some beatboxers that could make sounds with their mouths that

sounded like birds!

My favourite part was when we all sang I Got Life with some lovely pro-

fessional singers.

It was a blast! If you would like to go to the O2 next year then you

can audition with Mrs Gibbs. By Amelie Rocha

On Tuesday the 16th of May, Sacred Heart School had an RE In-

spection. That means people come into our school to see how we

teach and learn about RE. RE stands for Religious Education. They

were so impressed by our school and how the teachers teach and

how the students learn and especially our handwriting. They liked

us a lot. We were all delighted to get an outstanding rating for our

school! By Kenny Celestine

On Tuesday 20th June 2017, the lucky children in YR2 went to Whip-

snade Zoo! The children were a little disappointed because they didn’t

get to see all the animals as they were too hot and stayed in the shade,

out of sight, however they still had a great time. As you probably know,

a lot of the animals at the zoo are rescue animals. Some of the animals

they saw were butterflys, elephants, parrots, giraffes and Mrs Mcpar-

land even told me that they saw a bird of prey show!

Recently, the Queen went to visit the new Elephant sanctuary at Whip-

snade zoo and the zoo keeper said that she really enjoyed her visit. So

our YR2 children have something in common with the Queen!

RAINBOW DAY Rainbow Day took place on April the 24th 2017. For those who don’t

know what Rainbow Day was about, it’s a day where all pupils and

teachers came in to school wearing different colours. This included

clothing, face paints, hair colour and anything thing else you could

think of. The more colourful the better!

The event was to help raise money for benches and a fence for our

beautiful prayer garden.

The whole school had an

assembly that day where

everyone could see each

other and all their colours,

it was great fun. Amelie

said “I liked being able to

dress up in multi-coloured

clothes.” Olivia said “I liked

it because everyone could

express their individualism

through colour.” We all had

a blast, it was amazing and

our Prayer Garden looks fabulous. By Niamh Griffiths

The Summer Fete will be taking place on Saturday 8th July from 2pm

till 5pm. Adults will have to pay £1 whereas children go free! There

will be: Inflatables, a Raffle, Stalls, B.B.Q, Beer Tent, Irish Dancing,

Books, Toys, Driving Instructors, Anglo Saxon Bracelets, Tombola’s,

Face Paint and Hair Spray, Bags and T-shirts and so much more! The

Summer Fete is so much fun! Every year we do it and all the money

goes to help the school buy resources for the children.

This year Sacred Heart will be running our very own talent show.

This happens every two years. We have auditions in our classes and

each class votes to see who gets through the first round. Two acts

get to perform in front of the school. There are judges (our teachers)

who decide which acts will go into the next round.

Everyone has a lot of fun, but some people might be slightly disap-

pointed if they do not get into the next round, but everyone enjoys

the experience and has a go. There is a prize of £10 for the winning

act! So I would recommend at least trying.

Superb Storytelling in KS2 This year at our fantastic school, a storyteller called Jane came in to

tell us some tales. There were two tales, both of them about a boy

named Jack. In the first story, Jack has to find a job so he could

marry a lady he always wanted to marry, and in the second, Jack

was lazy and a fool and has to work for his pay. At the end of each

twisted tale they both have a wife and many riches. There were

many parts of stories to choose from, but I wondered what part and

what story was the audience’s favourite. So I went to find out.

“My favourite story was the one where Jack was always called a

fool” Says Bianca from Year Five “I liked the part when he carried

the donkey”

After the storytelling, a workshop was set up YR4 and YR5. This

workshop was called Jack’s Pack. In this workshop, you were split

into teams and you had to follow the instructions in your pack, and

make a story with the items you found.

“My favourite part of the workshop was finding things” said Grace

O’Malley “I liked it because my team found a crystal”

Overall that day was really fun, and I would definitely recommend

it to others! By Dagmara Sitkowska

The YR6 Faith Ambassadors at Sacred Heart have been leading

Meditation in the Learning Lodge. They lead amazing lessons about

Jesus, Mary and God, and how we could try to be more like the Holy

Family. We discuss this for a while, then everyone is asked to look at

the candle, or shut our eyes while we meditate. In addition to this,

we also have the opportunity to look at the fantastic pictures that

Grace Miller (one of the Faith Ambassadors)

puts on the board. After that, we say a short

prayer and finish the session. Eve Kelly in

YR5 told me that, “It’s really nice to go be-

cause it’s at the end of lunch, and it calms

you down a lot.” So, you still get some time

to play and be outside before you go to the

Lodge! I enjoy meditation a lot, and maybe

you could too! Come to the

Learning Lodge on the first or last Friday

of the month at One o’clock!

St Joseph’s visit On Monday 22nd May 2017, some ABC (Anti Bullying Committee)

Ambassadors from St Joseph’s Primary School came to visit our

school. It wasn’t just a normal visit though, they came to get ideas

from our ABC team. Twenty four children and three adults from the

school all gathered in the learning lodge with four of our ABC mem-

bers (Grace, Leyton, Beth and Alex). We spent the afternoon talking

about our ideas and how ABC works in our School. We also showed

them a presentation that we had prepared about our recent training.

We had cakes with our school logo on them and handed them out to

each child. It was really fun to do and I hope you enjoyed reading

about it as much as I loved doing it. By Grace O’Malley.

The YR5 trip this year was going to the Natural History Museum

on Tuesday the 13th of June 2017. Both 5LK and 5HC got togeth-

er and travelled on a coach to London. The museum was huge and

I was absolutely amazed! There were lots of different sections,

such as human biology, fish and mammals, dino zone and much

more to enjoy.

At twelve o’clock we went to the under-

ground hut and ate lunch. After that three

groups went around with a man who brought

us into a room where there was a box and

four pillows positioned around the place. In-

side the box there was a dinosaur fossil which

we dug up with a paint brush and had to fig-

ure out which dinosaur it was. The man who

taught us told us that what we were doing was

the job of a palaeontologist, which is basical-

ly an archaeologist but they dig up fossils.

The day was amazing and we all enjoyed hav-

ing a great time discovering dinosaurs. We got back to school at

4.00pm, all tired after a brilliant day! By Niamh Griffiths

Year 6 Production! Before the YR6’s leave they will do their final production and this

year they are performing Annie! Ava Toye will be playing the lead

role, Annie. They will be practising very hard as it is their final

play before they leave and they want to make it their best. Most of

their free time is spent practising for Annie! Grace O’Malley says

she is very excited to watch the production! “I have seen them

practising and it sounds fabulous.”

The parents have been invited to watch the production on Thurs-

day 13th July. From what we have seen and heard I think the par-

ents will really enjoy this performance of Annie.

Dizzying Dell Farm Starting from the 19th of June, both YR4 classes went on their

school trip to Dell Farm. Each class went for three days, 4HC went

from Monday to Wednesday and 4TA went from Wednesday to Fri-

day. At Dell Farm you do many fun activities. On the first day the

children visit Whipsnade Zoo and see all of the majestic animals,

and at the end of that tiring but exciting day, they finally arrive in

Dell Farm.

Every morning at Dell Farm, the staff split the children into two

groups. One group grooms the donkeys and ponies while the other

group feeds all of the animals. Once those chores are done the chil-

dren do some activities. Every day at Dell Farm they get some free

time, when they can explore the farm.

This year the classes had to endure the extremely hot weather that

we experienced during the mini heatwave! Although I don’t think it

stopped them from having lots of fun.

Dell Farm is a great learning experience for the YR4’s and is a lot of

fun for them. It is a trip that everyone should try.

PGL Party! The YR6’s recently reached the best time of their final year. They

went to PGL! PGL is based on the Isle of White. At PGL they

made smores and had fun around the camp fires. They also did

lots of fun activities such as abseiling, leap of faith and so much

more. During their time at this wondrous place the lucky students

of YR6 were able to chill out and have some fun after completing

their SATS. On Monday 29th May they came back to school and

the fun ended.

Miss Canavan said “It was a great experience going to PGL and

trying out everything that they had to offer. It was very exciting

for all of the children. There was Abseiling, Dragon boating, tun-

nel trail, Traipse and so much more.” James and Kian said “It was

a great adventure and action packed. You can face your fears but

it was also very entertaining. There was Survivor, Beach walk,

stone skimming and a DISCO! Also we did fencing and archery.

We are so glad that we went.”

Some people did not want to go but they did not miss out on the

fun! Staff from Dell Farm came into school and did lots of fun ac-

tivities with the children. By Eve Kelly. Shakespeare Schools Festival Every year our school takes part in an amazing festival called

‘Shakespeare Schools Festival’. We hold auditions to fill the various

roles. This year we are preforming Romeo and Juliet! The auditions

have taken place and roles have been allocated. Playing Romeo is

Aiden Campbell (5lk), and the part of Juliet is being played by me

(Grace O’Malley), the two narrators are Grace Kelly (5HC) and Eva

Friguglietti (5LK).

Most of the cast are YR5 pupils however there are many more parts

available in the play. I did it last year and, although I only had a

small part, it was really fun. This is the last year I will be able to par-

ticipate in this fantastic experience. I hope all the pupils who take

part in the future performances will have as much fun as we have all

had. By Grace O’Malley

Kindness Day Kindness day is a day when everyone is kind to each other and the

ABC are always around to help us to do this. Eve Kelly in 5HC

says it was really fun and she enjoyed all of the activities. Kind-

ness day took place on 28th of June and we had lots of fun! The

ABC had sashes, stickers and kindness cards. It was such a lovely

day and it really brought a feeling of kindness and happiness

throughout our school. I really enjoyed it.

On Friday 23rd June 2017, the school choir went to Stopsley Church

to sing songs for their families. Having had personal experience of

Singing Spectacular once before, I would say it was a spectacularly

good experience. Mrs Watson is in charge of organising Singing

Spectacular and she also conducts the choir. There were two other

schools with us. The parents all thought it was fantastic!!

The songs that we sang this time were: ABBA medley (a mix of

ABBA’s songs), Make my Spirit Fly, Over the Hills (a mix of old

folk songs), We Go Together (a song from Grease, an old musical),

Amani Utupe, Magic Moments and Hold Back the River

It was as amazing as ever. I really love being part of our School

Choir! By Caoimhe Murray

Singing Spectacular Year 3 Communions The YR3s’ have recently taken their second step in Christianity

after baptism. They have made their First Holy Communion!

When you make your holy communion you eat the bread, which

is Jesus’ body. The wine is Jesus’ blood but you cannot get that

until you are old enough to be able to drink wine. From personal

experience I think that when you do make your Holy Commun-

ion it feels so good. During the few weeks before your Com-

munion the children went to the Sacred Heart Church to prac-

tice what they had to do and say. Some children read at this spe-

cial service.

Some of the YR3’s told me how they felt about this special time

and this is what they had to say: “We were excited and a bit

nervous” says Oliver and Calum. Maddie Kelly, Sasha and Joe

also say that they were a little bit nervous but they were still ex-

cited to get to experience such a wonderful and interesting

thing. Well I felt like that and totally agree with them.

By Eve Kelly

Harry Potter World On Friday the 9th of June the YR6’s went to Harry Potter World.

There was a workshop arranged for them and the children got to see

the original costumes of the characters in the films. Hagrid’s trousers

were massive! I interviewed Megan and Isobel about what they en-

joyed. Megan said she enjoyed the forbidden forest best. Isobel told

me that everyone was scared of the death eaters. The coach journey

was just over an hour but when they

were coming back it took them longer

because their coach had a problem

with the Key! While they were waiting

the YR6’s decided to try their Bertie

Bots Every Flavour Beans. They tried

some of them out on the teachers,

luckily they all picked nice flavours.

Unfortunately, some of the children were not so lucky, some of the

flavours they had were vomit, bogey and soap! Overall the trip was

amazing and both the children and the staff enjoyed their visit.

MA+HS DAY On Friday 30th June we had ‘maths day’ in our school (Sacred Heart

Primary) to celebrate MATHS. This is a day when we do maths all

day! In KS2 every one went round different classes learning about

different ways to use maths in our everyday lives. Miss Canavan ar-

ranged a Marble Run, to do this we had to create a path for the mar-

ble to run down. The slowest time for the marble to get down

WINS. In Miss lee’s class we had to build bridges out of only rub-

ber bands, art straws and scissors. This had to be secure enough to

hold an empty water bottle! I found it really fun and I hope every-

one else had as much fun as I did. By Kenny Celestine
