DMSC Conducts Safety Reviews

Board appointed Range Safety Officers (RSOs) will conduct a random series of membership checks and safety reviews. RSOs will meet with members and guests while at the firing range. Each member will be given a green safety card with important safety information to review, membership ID’s will be checked, a green sticker will be affixed to the membership card, and a copy of the range rules will be made available. It’s important for all members to review safe gun handling procedures and to focus on the safety rules for each range used. The RSOs will be a wearing a distinctive safety vest and hat and will only ask for a few minutes of your time.

New Range Rules

Revisions to the range rules were approved by the board, and took effect in January. All members should review the rules before coming to the range. The rules can be found on the DMSC website http://www.mdi.net/dml/RangeRules.pdf

• At the January meeting, DML member George Block(right) presented The Ethics of Long Range Hunting. George posed the question, with the advancements in scope and rangefinder technology, is a 1000 yard shot hunting or just precision shooting? He certainly gave the audience a lot think about. • The recent revisions to the range rules were also discussed at the January meeting, and the RSOs answered questions from the members. If you have questions any about the new rules, please attend a meeting or contact the Safety Officers.

Most certainly a beautiful day to be at the range for January. We had good light, just above freezing temperatures, and a stiff and variable breeze. Twenty two onth e line with eight new shooters. Jaworski holds firm even in the wind but Morelli and Augenstein closing the gap. Notice Ted's bolt prone slo 196, Mr. Scherer posting a 442 with an M1 Carbine and Ms. Popso finding the inside lane with her mouse gun. Look at our calendar for special upcoming matches

PISTOL MONDAY NIGHT INDOOR (NMC). The first line shoots at 7:00PM. Call the pro-gram leaders, George Taylor (412) 855- 6721 or Bruce Ungar (412)343-2256, for additional information. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON INDOOR OPEN SHOOT. Ted Hildabrand and Dave Faust head the Wednesday indoor shoots. This program will run 12:00- 3:00PM from October through March. For questions on permissible armory and other details, call Ted at (724)942-2125, or Dave at (724)225-9057. SATURDAY SHOOTS. Through March, three programs will shoot Saturday morn-ings and early afternoons as follows: 9:00-10:30 Air Pistol 10:30-12:30 Open Shoot 1:30PM Air Pistol Silhouette For details on each discipline, call Ted Hil-dabrand at (724)942-2125, or Dave Faust at (724)225-9057.

RIFLE WEDNESDAY MORNING INDOOR AIR RIFLE SHOOT. Scheduled for 10:30AM -12:00, this program precedes the open shoot. For questions on permissible ar-mory and other details, call Ted Hil-dabrand at (724)942-2125, or Dave Faust at (724)225-9057. CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM (CMP). The program shoots on the third Sunday of each month and will resume on January 20. For information contact John Tupta at 724-941-1494 or [email protected]

NRA HIGH POWER. The program has ended and will resume in March. PITTSBURGH SUBURBAN RIFLE LEAGUE. Our champion smallbore team practices every Sunday at 7:00PM. Shoot-ers interested in joining can see captain Dean Trew at practice. BLACK POWDER. Contact Ron Watton, (724)941-5891, or [email protected]. Here is additional information for all you black powder enthusiasts out there… and there are about a dozen of you in the Club, not to mention interested outsiders. Pro-gram Manager Ron Watton is planning a black powder round ball shoot in early spring and he will need some help in run-ning the event. There will be some sacri-fice involved because the helpers will be too busy to participate. So if you’re familiar with Kentucky Rifles and would like to help Ron get this program off to a roaring start in 2013, give him a call at (724)941-5891.

SHOTGUN TRAP. The formal Tuesday night program is over. The hand traps to the left of the trap house are available for use year round. NOTE: Because of internal problems the USRA Winter Postal League has, in effect, disbanded. This winter’s competition will be intramural. The matches may include a less rigid format, including freestyle shoot-ing positions for air pistols, the use of scopes, etc. This approach will draw more shooters to this program. Call Ted Hil-dabrand at (724)942-2125 for details.
