York

The City of York is steeped in history, with many world renowned attractions to be proud of, including the gothic splendour of York Minster,

the National Railway Museum, Castle Museum and the Jorvik Centre to name but a few. In addition to its many historical and educational sites, York

is also a vibrant, cosmopolitan shopping destination. Modern department stores run the length of Parliament Street while the smaller craft, souvenir

and antique shops can be found winding along the famous cobbles of “The Shambles”. The City also offers a huge variety of bars and restaurants,

catering for all styles of national and international cuisine.

Harrogate

Harrogate’s cosmopolitan charm and character owes much to its heritage as a popular Victorian spa town. Modern Harrogate is a major international

conference destination with a varied mixture of shopping, fine restaurants and relaxing open spaces. The town centre is decorated with beautiful

floral displays annually and with “The Stray” at its centre, a vast expanse of 200 acres of green lawns, Harrogate bursts into life every English

summertime. Other attractions in Harrogate include the RHS Gardens of Harlow Carr, the Royal Pump Museum, Mercer Art Gallery and the

famous Turkish Baths.

Leeds

Yorkshire's 21st century capital offers everything you would expect from one of the UK's leading cities, and more. Leeds is the only English city

outside London with its own repertory theatre, opera house and ballet companies. Leeds Art Gallery has one of the UK’s best collections of

contemporary British art (The Times) and the city is home to the Royal Armouries, the national collection of arms and armour. There are more listed

buildings in Leeds than in any English city outside London, with highlights including the Victoria Quarter, Leeds Corn Exchange and Harewood

House, home of the Queen’s cousin. The “Rough Guide to Britain” named shopping in Leeds as one of the top thirty things to do in the UK, and with

five miles of shopping streets and one of the country’s largest pedestrianised zones it’s easy to see why. Leeds also has an excellent nightlife scene,

with numerous restaurants and independent bars, and is one of the UK’s best cities for dining out according to the “Which? Good Food Guide”. A

great sporting heritage is built around world-famous stadiums like Headingley and Elland Road, and there’s plenty to get involved in yourself too, from

world-class golf to some of the country’s best mountain biking. Leeds is the ideal gateway to the Yorkshire region – the Yorkshire Dales National Park

is just 20 miles away, and features some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes. Yorkshire is the largest county in the UK, with incredible scenery

from inspiring moorlands to stunning coastlines.

Campus Transportation:

We have our own fleet of transport ranging from 2 x full size coaches,

7 x 17 seater minibuses and 8 x 8 seater, 4WD Mitsubishi Delica’s.

We are able to provide use of any of these vehicles along with drivers.

We also have our own modern ambulance, full HGV Medical trailer

along with 3 working fire engines.

Golf Buggies:

Our campus is compact in the sense that no facility is ever more than

a 3-4 minute walk from anywhere else. However, if you have players

with injuries or anyone who needs extra assistance, we have a fleet of

8 golf buggies that can assist in getting round our campus. We also

have a medical ambulance buggy that was used in the London 2012

Olympics that is available for use which can transport someone to our

on site £500,000 medical centre.

Parking on campus:

We have over 700 car parking spaces on our Estate, along with

additional space for team coaches or additional support vehicles.

Infrastructure:

With the UK’s weather being as unpredictable as ever, we always

need to allow for snow! We pride ourselves in never having closed

due to snow, or any extreme weather, in the last 30 years. Our own

on site Unimog’s and gritters keep our campus fully functioning, as

well as local roads in aid to the council. We have 5 megawatts of

back-up generators, along with independent water supply on campus

which means we have the ability to carry on as normal in the rare

occasions there is ever a problem.

In 2012 we were thrilled to have one of our very own pupils, George Stocker, run with the Olympic Torch

and become part of a global sporting event. The Olympics were of great importance to all year groups

throughout the Collegiate, but also to our staff and to our parents. We wanted to continue this legacy, so

developed part of our campus, now called “Olympic Court” which includes fountains, seating, planting and

Olympic theming running throughout.

Earlier this year Stuart Lancaster opened our new £1 million 140 station state of the art gym and one of

our students has been selected to play for the U16 England Rugby squad.

From management to tradesmen, we are here to offer you 24/7 support and assistance. Our

management team are resident on site year round and can always be contacted if required. We

have approximately 100 day time staff and approximately 20 night time staff ranging from

management to leisure staff, medical, catering and grounds staff.

Our flexibility and in-house method of working means that we are able to react quickly when

needed. We can erect privacy screens, re-arrange function room layouts, adapt menu’s and

provide medical assistance if required. Our catering staff already have a range of multi-cultural

chefs including those from Asia and Russia. We have extensive experience in producing specific

and controlled dietary requirements. Housekeeping and laundry services are offered onsite also.

We are a friendly and approachable team who aim to provide the highest level of service.

is highly robust. We understand that your privacy and security throughout your stay is paramount. We can

work with you to make sure that all of your needs are met.

Our entire campus is surrounded by a 2m high perimeter wall.

A £1 million planting scheme of 7m high established conifers and trees provide complete privacy.

Access is through secured gated entrances, which can be closed and manned at any point.

We have on site security and more than 700 CCTV cameras.

We have our own dedicated, professional media team within the Collegiate, producing press

releases, broadcast material and website articles, who would be able to assist with your own

people and be on hand to help visiting teams and their associated members of the press.

The Collegiate can stream live HD television pictures globally from several venues around the

campus, making a dedicated press conference area incredibly easy to establish.

We can also stream live information to each TV within every bedroom, and to every major area

on site if required. We have a number of rooms and facilities that lend themselves easily to

being utilised for press conferences when necessary. We have a 1GB leased line fibre optic

dedicated connection, one of the biggest in the region, and full high speed Wi-Fi is available

campus wide.

Rugby at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate

The quality of the coaching and facilities on offer at Queen Ethelburga’s are superb.

Drawing from a wealth of knowledge and experience of the game, Director of Rugby Rob Rawlinson has firmly installed a first-class rugby program at

the Collegiate.

Complementing the Collegiate in-house rugby provision, students are given the rare opportunity to learn from quality professionals and gain insights

into topflight rugby with weekly training sessions led by Leeds Carnegie coaching staff. Senior players also follow a strength and conditioning

programme, under the direct guidance of the team from Leeds Rugby (the Leeds Carnegie/Leeds Rhinos partnership).

With 5 dedicated rugby pitches (including a floodlit pitch) and a new £1million Senior Health and Fitness Gym, that has over 100 stations, combined

with access to high class teaching and professional coaching, plus a 4,700 square foot indoor Sports Hall, it is no wonder that so many students go on

to represent the Collegiate at County and National levels.

On his visit to QE in January 2013, Head Coach for the England

Rugby Union Team, Stuart Lancaster, said that the Collegiate had

some of the ‘…best facilities in the country’.

Despite this resounding endorsement, a multi-million pound

investment is underway to increase the overall number of rugby

pitches, plus adding 2 full-size and 2 junior 4G synthetics pitches.

As well as these, ice baths and warm baths, to aid with post

training recovery, are opening September 2014, as are a Sports

Science Laboratory and Physiotherapy and Sports Treatment

Centre, and dedicated wrestling room.

This will be complemented by a new 20 station Senior Free

Weights area to international standards. For our younger junior

players (Y3 to Y6) there will also be a 50 station training Health

and Fitness Gym – the first of its kind in the UK.

Genesis Sports Hall ~ 4,700

square feet of heated, sprung

maple flooring

26

27

Our multi-use 'Genesis' sports hall is suitable for a range of activities from recreational,

through to elite level.

What is, in effect, a ‘triple’ standard size sports hall, makes a flexible, light and airy facility, with its sprung

maple flooring, can cater for a range of events both sporting and non-sporting. It is home to our National

League Basketball club and is regularly used to host tournaments. It is also used to host such events as our

annual Gym and Dance display, utilising audio visual and PA systems to put on what is a spectacular show.

We are currently finalising the design of our viewing gallery, which will have seating for 500, and will be

opening in 2014. There will also be in-house television and radio broadcast studios for televising important

matches and tournaments.

The sports hall dimensions are as follows, with retractable dividing nets between courts, to give greater

flexibility.

Length: 48.5m Minimum Height: 5.1m

Width: 30m Maximum Height: 6.1m

The facility incorporates:

3 x Basketball Courts

3 x Netball Courts

3 x 5-a-side Football

3 x Volleyball Courts

12 x Badminton Courts

Opened in 2011, the current facility is being upgraded even further with international standard pool timing equipment, digital scoreboard and spectator

seating for 300, enhanced by screen live coverage of our aquatic competitions with our own TV and radio studio broadcast facilities.

Within the swimming pool complex, there is a sauna and steam room, along with a huge Jacuzzi. Accessed directly off the swimming pool area are

two further changing rooms which each have their own sauna and steam room. There is also a disabled changing room with direct access to poolside

which has a hoist to aid access to the swimming pool. In addition, ice baths and warm baths, to aid with post training recovery, are opening

September 2014, as are a Sports Science Laboratory and Physiotherapy and Sports Treatment Centre.

For the serious swimmer, training is complemented by the new £1million 140 station Senior Health and Fitness Gym, where individuals can receive

on-going guidance that allows them to follow a swimming specific strength and conditioning programme.

Opening September 2014 - 3 endless pool units to improve stroke, distance, speed and technique

The Endless Pool propulsion unit can move a huge amount of water -- up to 19,000 litres a minute -- through two grills that straighten and smooth the

water's flow. They are the choice of elite swimmers wishing to improve stroke, distance, speed and technique.

The swim current is generated by a 40.6cm propeller inside a protective housing that is driven by a hydraulic motor. The swim current is remarkably

smooth because of an ingenious return system. As the water flows down the centre of the pool, it enters a grill in the rear. The water returns to the

front of the pool via return channels. This system provides the Endless Pool with the best current in the industry.

The unique flow current system produces an ideal, broad, deep, non-turbulent swim current that is wider than your body and deeper than your stroke.

It is remarkably free of waves and bubbles, making it the choice for Coaches looking for closer one to one coaching than can be provided in the big

pool. A computerised controlled water flow speed can ensure the Coaching team precisely measure speed and distance. We are installing 2 x two

person endless pool and a single swimmer endless pool – 3 in total.

Training & Rehabilitation is also covered within our Aquatic Centre with extra resources coming online September 2014

We are also installing three underwater hydraulic Aquatic Treadmills. Studies show that underwater treadmills are a viable alternative to land-based

treadmills. Water's natural buoyancy gently supports joints to encourage free movement as you work against resistance in all directions.

You burn as many calories, enjoy an increased range of motion, and suffer less muscle soreness - all without the

pounding of land based exercise. Sports people unable to exercise on land can achieve immediate rehabilitation results

in water. Use the treadmill in conjunction with the resistance current to vary the intensity of your walk or jog and work on

your core conditioning. By adjusting the speed of both the treadmill and the current you can create individually tailored

workouts to take your fitness to the next level.

Take it to the next step and use the aquatic treadmill to cross-train in the Endless Pool. Alternate between swimming

and walking or jogging to get a full body workout! Our new Aquatic Treadmills will offer a spacious 20" wide belt for

walking or running. The identical endless pool system and underwater hydraulic treadmills were used by Alistair

Brownlee who won his gold medal after winning Britain's first Olympic triathlon title, and his brother Jonny who took the

bronze medal. The only difference is we will be investing in the installation of 3 complete systems and ours will be inside

as part of our Aquatic Centre and not outdoors in the front garden as was the case for the Brownlee brothers!

£1 million 140 station fitness suite opened

January 2013 is to be expanded further

still by September 2014...

35

Opened in January 2013 by Stuart Lancaster, England Head Rugby Coach, this state of the art £1 million 140 station fitness

suite is a highly professional resource.

The full fitness suite is air conditioned and has an excellent sound system to boost

motivation if required! All of our equipment is of commercial grade and has been put to

the test by the Leeds Carnegie Rugby team. The equipment is of the highest standard,

and each cardiovascular item, from treadmills to bikes and arc trainers include colour TV,

and iPod connection. We have a full range of functional and strengthening equipment,

along with areas to stretch and do warm up exercises.

We are already expanding due to high demand, and our larger dedicated weights room

has already started to be constructed and will be open 2014, covering 180m2. This will be

used by Leeds Carnegie Rugby Club in conjunction with their training of our students

which occurs twice weekly at present. We either have, or will have by 2014, every piece

of equipment and in the quantity you require.

The fitness suite has a dedicated reception and access gates which can be

restricted if required. There is a sports treatment room within the fitness suite, along

with 2 changing rooms which also have sauna, and steam room. (Ice bath and

warm bath opening 2014). Additional space just behind the gym is available for

additional massage and treatment tables to be set up if required. There are water

fountains throughout the gym along with commercial ice machines.

There is a large leather seating area which can be used for team briefings, drinks

and snacks, or just to take a moment out. There is direct access outside to the field

so moving from indoors to outdoors training is easy and practical.

Also, by 2014 we will have a fully dedicated physiotherapy and sports injury centre

along with a café serving Starbucks coffee with rest area.

Outdoor Training

Our multi-million pound investment programme for 2013 / 2014 is already underway.

The outdoor pitches are being fully levelled during 2013 and we are also installing additional drainage and automatic watering to ensure that our

fields cope admirably with the increasing volatile British weather! These ground works enable us to re-configure the layout of the grass pitches,

taking us up to 9 external grass pitches in total, across all sports, but predominantly rugby. We are also installing 4 further AstroTurfs, for dedicated

rugby and dedicated football to complement our existing sand dressed hockey AstroTurf pitch.

We have the ability to floodlight, to tournament level, any of our pitches as we have invested in over 30 mobile VT-1+ SuperLight hydraulic lighting

towers. In addition our whole Estate has over 5 megawatts of huge automatic back-up generators.

We have a dedicated team of over 20 professional ground staff, 10 electricians and over 100 other general and maintenance staff all on permanent

payroll.

46

47

On campus we have our own fully equipped £500,000 medical centre that was

recently described by an ISC inspector as a ‘mini BUPA’.

Housing three assessment rooms, four dedicated medical bedrooms, waiting room and

reception; - you can be assured that whilst on campus you will receive excellent medical

assistance.

Our newly acquired ambulance buggy, from the London 2012 Olympics, can aid in getting a

sportsperson from the pitch or sporting facilities, to the medical centre as quickly as possible.

We also have our own fully functioning and equipped 4WD ambulance. The medical centre is

staffed round the clock by two fully qualified nurses, with doctors running additional surgeries

during the daytime.

We have full resuscitation kits, oxygen and entonox, along with defibrillators in

our fitness suite, sports hall, swimming pool and in other central areas around

campus.

While we currently possess a dedicated sports treatment room within the fitness

suite area, which came on line in 2012, we are already planning to upgrade this

facility. For September 2014, we will have a dedicated physiotherapy and sports

therapy treatment unit, which includes two further examination tables, as well as

an area for rehabilitation and physiotherapy exercises and an ice bath and

warm bath for post training recovery.

Ice baths and warm baths are also being installed in two changing rooms just off

the fitness suite/swimming pool complex and should also be online for 2014.

Training Recovery & Injury Prevention Treatment

48

49

September 2014 sees 3 ice baths and 3 warm baths installed

Our professional installed ice baths will take this treatment to a new level - by

introducing salt, aeration and both reducing and maintaining the water temperature to

the desired level. The combination of these factors mean that the effectiveness of a

cold spa is increased greatly and in turn the athlete is back on the field within a

shorter period.

The salt solution acts as a hypertonic poultice as well as having a natural healing

effect on wounds. Water density increases with salt concentration, which in turn

increases pressure to aid fluid and waste dispersal. Water aeration has a massaging

effect on the leg and increases the dissolved oxygen content of the spa solution. Our

ice baths will precisely control the desired water temperature to minimise heat and

inflammation. This provides analgesic pain management as well as inhibiting enzyme

degeneration of tendons post injury.

Our ice baths have a chiller unit produced by icoolsport in Australia – acknowledged as a world leader in this

area.

The digitally controlled temperature is thus constant throughout the whole bath whereas with simple ice

thrown into water the temperature is not controlled, is not constant and is cooler at the surface than further

down in the water.

We will have two single person baths in our Sports Injury and Physiotherapy Clinic – an ice bath and a warm

bath.

Our two changing rooms for our elite athletes, which is part of our Gymnasium complex, will each have a

team ice bath and a team warm bath.

Training Recovery & Injury Prevention Treatment

50

51

Changing rooms aid post training recovery:

Dedicated changing rooms with steam room and

sauna’s already complete. Ice baths and warm baths

to be complete 2014.

These two changing rooms are perfectly located off

the fitness suite and swimming pool, and are also

near to the external training pitches ensuring that

these are a valuable resource for post training

recovery for our elite athletes.

Physiotherapy & Sports Treatment Centre:

Further developments within the Genesis Centre see a

dedicated Physiotherapy & Sports Treatment centre

coming online for September 2014. This includes 2

further treatment and examination tables, along with ice

bath, warm bath and additional area to be able to

assess injury and work on rehabilitation.

This is in addition to the sports treatment room already

off the fitness suite complex.

Leeds Carnegie Rugby Club

Leeds Carnegie First XV Squad have put Queen Ethelburga’s rugby boys through their paces in tough training sessions held on our campus. Eager

students learned some handy tricks of the professional trade as they received top-class coaching from the burly Leeds lads.

The session was organised through the Leeds Rugby Foundation - a charity that aims to harness the power of sport to impact positively on

individuals’ lives – and was an excellent chance for our rugby union teams to develop their skills. Leeds Carnegie Community Manager, Adam

Blades, was pleased with the quality of QE’s Year 10s-12s: “There are some highly impressive players here who seem to be very quick learners.

Extremely promising stuff” he said.

With the school’s recent appointment of ex-Leeds Carnegie hooker Rob Rawlinson as Director of Rugby, yesterday’s session epitomized

the first-rate rugby coaching now offered at QE.

With an intense training regime that is all consuming, downtime is valued even more. Our unique campus offers excellent

downtime areas alongside our first class sporting facilities to make life a little bit more enjoyable.

Our new activity centre; “Muggles” houses a Starbucks coffee servery, pool table, air hockey, pinball machine, along with

40 X-box’s and a library of games. We also have a 3D Cinema that you might like to try out. If time permits, why not try out

our BMX track, take a spin in one of our go-karts or tackle our army style assault course? Our recent addition of our climbing

tower can test even the finest of athlete!

There are dedicated communal lounge areas within the accommodation that provide excellent bases for getting people together

to enjoy a movie, a game of pool, or just the opportunity to surf the internet. Why not borrow some PS3 games from our

extensive library and put the Sony PlayStation 3 in your bedroom to good use? Or just take a stroll around our beautifully

manicured gardens to get away from it all.

Our catering facility can offer a range of alternative options to our routine catering service. If the weather permits, enjoy a BBQ

in one of our gorgeous tranquil garden areas. If you want to arrange a more formal sit down dinner for the team, just let us

know what you require and we will accommodate your needs and give you a night to remember.

We try to make life easy on site - we

have ATM Cash machines, change

machines and can offer currency

exchange for over 40 different countries,

commission free. We are able to do

mobile top ups on site from our offices

too.

We can offer you snacks and hot and

And finally...

During the last 5 years of economic depression most similar establishments to ours have seen their numbers drop.

In this same period our numbers have grown from 650 students to 1200 students.

The overwhelming majority of our Collegiate student body comes from over 52 different Countries worldwide.

Thus most students live on Campus. Our growth comes from word of mouth.

Comments that you hear time and time again are...

Queen Ethelburga’s is a home from home ~ That we have common-sense, are friendly and helpful.

So as you have read through this short booklet on our tender bid we hope you will see that we are indeed professional in what we do, that we do have

superb facilities and that we do have plenty of experience so know what we are doing.

But we leave you with the photograph above. Just a small group of the 750 workforce on our Estate Campus. We are wearing our normal working

clothes, not posh and not a public relations stage managed photo. Just happy, confident and knowledgeable staff who are good at what they do.

Any team staying with us will receive an equally warm welcome as we become their “Home from Home”.
