ThesettlementconcludesalawsuitfiledbyPublicEnginesinfederalcourtalleging
thatReportSee,Inc.knowinglyandrepeatedlymisappropriatedproprietarydatafromtheCrimeReports.comwebsiteinviolationofitstermsofuseandfederallaw.
Aspartofthesettlement,ReportSeeagreedtopayanundisclosedmonetary
payment,aswellascomplywithapermanentcourt-orderedinjunctionthatpreventsthemfrom:
MisappropriatingdatafromtheCrimeReports.comandotherPublicEngineswebsites
ContactingPublicEnginescustomeragenciestorequestaccesstotheproprietarydatafeed
Misrepresentalawenforcementagencysobligationstosharedataorraisethreatsoflegalactioninassociationwiththosefalseclaims
Weareextremelypleasedwiththeoutcomeofthecase,saidGregWhisenant,chief
executiveofficerofPublicEngines,Inc.Thesettlementushersinaneweraof
transparencyandaccessibilityforthegeneralpublic.Itclearlyvalidatesour
perspectivethatlawenforcementagenciesshouldretaintherighttomanageand
controlthedatatheydecidetoshare.
