Franklin David Clark passed away on August 22, 2017. Frank was born on November 7, 1935 in Live Oak, Florida.After graduation from Suwannee High School (Florida), Frank attended college in Aurora, Illinois until the US Army called. After being honorably discharged, he

worked in insurance and in the pest control business, finally settling on starting his own business in 1963.Frank was an experienced and successful builder and demonstrated a genuine interest in the home building industry on the local, state and national levels. He was a licensed residential home builder, licensed home inspector and a licensed pest control operator in South Carolina. Having served as President in 1995 and being named Builder Member of the Year in 1994, 1999 and 2003, he faithfully served the Home Builders Association of South Carolina since 1987. Frank also served as Chairman of the S. C. Housing Hall of Fame, Chairman of the Land Developers Council, Chairman of the Disaster Relief Committee for the Home Builders Association of South Carolina. Frank was elected a Life Director of the National Association of Home Builders in 2003 and a Senior Life Director of the National Association of Home Builders Association in 2013, having earned the CGR, GCB and CAPS professional designations. In 2004 Frank D. Clark was inducted into the SC Housing Hall of Fame, which honors individuals who have made a lasting

contribution to the housing industry through their work in building and development, public service and housing related areas such as education, architecture and planning. Also in 2004 Frank was appointed to the South Carolina Residential Builder's Commission by the Governor of South Carolina.Frank was well-known as being, "Marvelous, Simply Marvelous!" His favorite poem was "The Dash" by Linda Ellis. The poem exemplified the way he tried to live his life. "For that dash represents all the time that he's spent alive on earth...And now only those who loved him know what that little line is worth. But it matters not how much we own. The cars...the hours...the cash. What matters is how we live and love. And how we spend our “dash."Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Prevatt Clark; his loving children Janet (Scotty) Tisdale and David (Dawn) Clark; loving step-child Wen (Lisa) Cromer; cherished grandchildren Jamey (Megan) Clark, David Clark III, Bailee Clark, Brandon (Jessi) Tisdale, and Josh Tisdale; cherished step-grandchild Caydence Cromer; and extraordinary great-grandchildren Izzy Tisdale and Declan Clark.Frank is also survived by his brother Jared (Jan) Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Oleta Clark, and by his brothers Raymond Clark, Dale Clark and sister Wynelle Rogers.In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to Mr. Frank’s favorite charity, the Building Industry Charitable Foundation, 625 Taylor St, Columbia SC 29201. These advancements in installation schedules and installation will have a significant impact on how innovative, energy efficient-driven builders build their homes and how they can differentiate themselves on the market among home buyers.The revised allowances for these two ultra-low VOC products permit one hour re-entry for trades and two hour re-occupancy for homeowners. The revised re-entry and re-occupancy allowances follow months of extensive research, testing and third-party evaluation of the two ultra-low VOC spray foam products based on protocols and procedures developed by a task group of the American Chemistry Council – Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (ACC-CPI).

Shorter re-entry times allow builders in residential and commercial projects to continue construction with minimal impact on their schedules, while shorter re-occupancy times offer homeowners the opportunity to return to their homes the same day, within hours, of their spray foam installation.

In my world, there are two different kinds of treestand sites.

The first kind involves spots I know I’ ll sit during the season. They are mainstay stand locations discovered from years of scouting and hunting.

The second kind involves the on-the-f ly spots that tend to crop up throughout the season due to current deer action or inaction.

While it’s impossible to anticipate how on-the-f ly locations will play out during any given season, the go-to stand sites we all have should be up and ready to go by the end of July. That still gives the sites a chance to rest for at least four to six weeks, and depending on your chosen state, maybe longer.

I don’t necessarily think stand sites need that long to rest, but it doesn’t hurt. This is especially true if you’re using large ladder stands or have cut serious shooting lanes and entrance and exit routes.

The more you intrude, the higher the likelihood the neighborhood deer will wig out for a while around that area.

That is why I try to have all my go-to stand sites finished by the end of July.

This involves every stage of the stand setup process, from actually hanging the stand to preparing the site and creating a way to get in and out.

Arguably, the most important thing to remember when you’re swatting bugs, sweating, and generally not liking the job a whole lot is the old saw that says, “Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.”

Cut the lanes you need, set up the stand just how you like it, and prep the site so that it will be ready to hunt.

There are no shortcuts to this process, and while it isn’t much fun a lot of times, it is always worth it.

Award Winners Announced

The Columbia Remodelers Awards (CRAs) are presented by the Remodelers Council of the Building Industry Association of Central SC (BIA). It is the only remodeling awards program in the Midlands, and has been awarding quality remodeling for 16 years.

The CRAs are designed to showcase the craftsmanship of BIA Remodelers Council members and help homeowners better understand what can be done when they hire quality remodelers.
