Why UseCustodian?
Contamination of boom sprayers may lead to crop damage and yield loss, tank corrosion and residues, as well as MRL issues, blocked filters and lines
Custodian provides unmatched cleaning and decontamination when used according to the product label.
Crop protection chemicals bind to the inside of spray tanks, hoses, nozzles and filters. Flushing with water will not remove these residues.
Until now, spray operators required many different decontamination products, depending on the situation.
Now with Custodian, confusion and costly mistakes can be avoided.
Custodian
Simple flushing will not suffice
Residues can damage susceptible crops
Prevents sticky residues from pesticides, oils and adjuvants from binding farm chemicals to spray equipment
Safe for use on external parts of the sprayer, filters, hoses, nozzles
Ammonia free with no unpleasant and dangerous fumes, especially in tanks with internal agitation

How Effective is Custodian
Tests and Evidence to support the use of a Tank Cleaner
• Pesticides subjected to tank washout procedure, using a method developed with DuPont which has been shown to most closely replicate field conditions.
• Plastic bottles are contaminated with herbicide at specified dose rates and left overnight.
• Laboratory analysis of residues with HPLC.
• Corrosion testing
• Bioassay: Final washings sprayed onto susceptible test plants (tomato). Damage to test plant assessed on 0-9 scale 0 = no effect and 9 = dead plant.
HPLC TESTSHPLC method gives an accurate level of residue. Any ‘peaks’ other than water (first peak from the left) show contamination

Examples of Actives Custodian washes out
Flumioxazin washout testing• Clean out test of hoses contaminated with Flumioxazin to determine the efficacy
of Custodian at 0.25% when compared 3 % household ammonia used at an application rate of 1%.
• Two different contamination periods were requested:• light contamination - 1 hour simulating a clean out straight after spraying• heavy contamination - 24 hours simulating a tank being left overnight before cleaning.
• Hoses - light contamination were cleaned out for the recommended 15 minutes for Custodian and 5 minutes for the Ammonia Cleaner. Heavily contaminated hoses were cleaned out for 24 hours.
• The hoses were contaminated with 0.1% Flumioxazin and cleaned out with either water, 0.25% Custodian or 1% of household ammonia (3% solution) as per the above timings for light and heavy contamination. The contaminated hoses were then left to dry.
• Once dry, the hoses were placed in glass vials containing 10ml Acetonitrile. Filtered samples from each vial were then analysed through HPLC for Flumioxazin.

Best Practice: • Start with a clean tank - old residue can react with new pesticides or nutrient sprays
leading to very difficult washouts. • Do not leave a sprayer under pressure – residue can be forced into the spray hoses/lines. • Keep the outside of the sprayer clean. • Clean nozzles and filters after every use.
Applications
13
Best Practice: 1. Half fill the tank with clean water and add tank cleaner at the rate of 250 mL per
100 L of tank capacity. 2. Start the pump with full agitation and mix well. Flush the tank cleaner solution
through the entire system, ensuring that boom end valves are open and/or sprayer bungs are removed for a complete boom treatment.
3. Close boom end valves and/or replace bungs once tank cleaner solution is freely flowing from the ends of the booms. Top up the tank until filled with clean water and allow to stand for 15 minutes with the agitation running. Flush the solution out of the spray tank via the spray boom lines and nozzles.
4. Nozzles, screens, filters and non-drip diaphragms should be removed and washed separately with tank cleaner solution at the rate of 25 mL in 10 L of water.
5. Drain tank and flush the entire system with clean water.6. A susceptible plant should be treated with a sample of the final rinsate to
determine whether residues remain.
Note 1: For extra sticky combinations allow the cleaning solution to be in contact with all internal surfaces of the spray equipment for at least 24 hours.
Note 2: If the tank cleaning history is unknown or may have been compromized, it will be necessary to soak all internal surfaces, lines, filters, nozzles for 24 hours.
Key Benefits
Easy to Use - low foaming formulation
Cleans out all pesticide residues even hard to remove old deposits
Low-Cost double-strength formulation means lower dose and cost
Safe for use on external parts of the sprayer, filters, hoses, nozzles
No smell - ammonia free - no dangerous fumes, especially in tanks with internal agitation
