HOW TO USE THIS

BOOKLET

This box is a family activity. If you evidence you have done this, you will earn 10 homework visas!

If you need to evidence you have completed a piece of homework, show your subject teacher or stick it into the pages in this booklet. If you do not complete the compulsory homework, you will be issued with a 45 minute detention FOR EACH HOMEWORK MISSED. You will be expected to complete the homework in that detention. If you miss the 45 minute detention, this will escalate to a 1 ½ hour detention. Homework visas can be redeemed against the whole academy visa rewards – lots of lovely things to earn.

homework in the usual way…their homework in this booklet is optional.

• For Creative Studies and Performing Arts, you only

Design a Physics starter activity that you would like to teach to

the rest of your class. Arrange with your teacher to put this as

part of a Science lesson.

Make a model or design a model (on paper) that would allow a

power to walk across snow without sinking. You need to explain

how it works (bonus visas for the correct equations).

Make a poster about the life cycle of a star.

Select AT LEAST ONE of these core tasks to complete as your homework for this half term.

Make a poster about renewable energy resources.

Make a fact tile poster about a planet in our Solar System. You should include key facts about the planet.

Research a law of physics. Make a small A5 poster about it.

Make a short YouTube video with a family member that shows you doing a short Physics practical. Use the internet to look for Physics practicals that you can do at home. Write down the link so that we can watch it.

Watch an episode of Countryfile and discuss the issues raised as a family.

Create a story book for primary school students. It must include your story and have a well designed cover that is engaging and would encourage someone to read it.

Create a draft of a children’s story that explains what it was like in America in the 1920s. It must be written so that a primary school student could understand it. Research

Research one aspect of life in 1920s America that you learnt about in class. It can be any topic but it must be research in more depth than looked at in class.

Produce an overview booklet examining what happened to Norwich in the Baedekker raids during the Second World War.

Produce a factsheet about a major battle in the Second World War. Possible battles could include Kursk, Norway and North Africa.

Get your parents to help you design a clever and engaging cover for your book. Can you design your book so that it has unique features like flaps or pop out sections?

BALANCING TOY: Complete a Mood Board on your chosen country. Find Images that represent your country and will help you design your toy. VALUABLES BOX: For 2 wooden products at home, create a design proposal for that product. It should include: a sketch, how it was made, what it was made from and why. This information should be annotated around your sketch. BALANCING TOY: Research existing souvenir products that are designed to represent a country or famous landmark / tourist attraction. Complete one side of A4. VALUABLES BOX: Compare 2 wooden products that you have at home. Compare their materials, quality and price.

BALANCING TOY: Produce an information leaflet to be sold with your balancing toy product. Include facts about your country including famous landmarks, population, culture, heritage, climate, popular foods etc VALUABLES BOX: Find a wooden product at home. Find out what wood it is made from and where that wood could have came from originally.

Model you idea at home (using cardboard, Lego, tape, pasta, Plasticine, Playdough, bread, paper, glue...pretty much anything) and get feedback from your parents or carers on how to improve your design.

Research a designer that has produced products in a similar style to your own idea - ask you teacher to email you some designers names to get you started (an example slide on how to do this research will be shared with you on Google classroom).

Create a Google slide mood board of 20-15 images to inspire your design work in DT.

Try a new recipe by yourself and photograph the making stages and finished product.

Identify a range (3-5) of special diets (e.g. vegetarian, coeliac) that people may follow and explain why. Give examples of foods that can and cannot be eaten.

For this highest level, you need to research what a scientific poster is.

Then, research a topic on the environment in Norwich and write a detailed

but easily understandable poster that shows facts, advice and solutions to

the issues in our local area. The work needs to be colourful and well-

written using clear information and data.
