SPRING ENRICHMENT PROGRAM 2017 | 1 For class descriptions or detailed info visit www.millvalleyrecreation.org POLICIES & PROCEDURES Registration with fax-in, mail-in or walk-in must include the following: - Completed Registration Form - Full Payment of Class Fees via MAJOR CREDIT CARD OR CHECK made out to MVPR Children are expected to proceed to their Enrichment class location unassisted. Kindergarten students are picked up only for classes for Kindergarten only. The Enrichment Instructors will pick-up and return EDS students to the EDS Daycare room. Parents are responsible for the transportation and further care of students at the end of each class. For Mill Valley Scholarship application and information contact the MVPR front desk at 415-383-1370. Takes 2-6 weeks for processing based on available funding. Class registration remains on a 1st come, 1st served basis. There will be no regular Enrichment Program classes on public school breaks, school holidays, or public school staff development days, NO CLASSES AT ALL SCHOOLS 4/10-4/14, 5/29, 5/31. CENTER OF PLAY@ The Mill Valley Community Center

Mill Valley Recreation is providing supervision and enrichment activities in a designated “Play Zone” at the Mill Valley Community Center during the school year.

The Center of Play is our new Afterschool Program offered at the Mill Valley Recreation and Community Center. We are very excited to offer this program

providing supervision and enrichment activities for our community. Your child will participate in recreation games, arts & crafts activities, outdoor play, homework time

(not tutoring), cooking projects, and enrichment activities during program hours.

Children have the opportunity to take the yellow school bus from Edna and Strawberry Point Schools to our center. We offer a shuttle service for up to

eight children from Park School.

SPRING CAMP

GRADES: K-6thJoin our enthusiastic staff of trained recreation leaders for a lively and entertaining mix of

activities, crafts, sports and spring surprises. Camp hours are 9:30am-4:00pm. Extended Care is available before and after our scheduled camp hours; 8-9:30am and 4-6:00pm. Camp is for

children currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Poekie Nook Spring House Building CampCome make Poekies with Sophia! For 17 years, Poekies have introduced various hand-sewing techniques to children age 6-12. Starting with easy, beginning animals, students sew their way up to advanced Poekie animals. Students are free to choose their projects depending on experience and ability. Under the SeaHave your kids join us for a week 20,000 leagues under the sea! Campers 1-5 grade are invited to join us for five wonderful magical days of Under Water inspired activities. Together students will play theater games, learn dance routines and enjoy theater based arts and crafts. CAMP KALEIDOSCOPE & SPLASH CAMP

RegistrationRegister now for your favorite weeks at camp! Just use the MVR program registration form and fax-it, mail-it or drop-it off at the Community Center. You may also register online at MVPRGoPlay.org. If you can’t make it to camp for an entire week, but would like to attend for just one day, register on-site, the day you want to attend. Pre-registration is required for Friday Trip Days.

Drop-In Camp Fast PassIf you are planning on dropping in for several days of camp this summer, purchase a CAMP FAST PASS. Don’t stand in line at the desk each morning to pay and do paperwork. Just swipe your CAMP FAST PASS and go right to the sign-in table. CAMP FAST PASSES can be used all summer long for either Camp Kaleidoscope or Splash Camp. The FAST PASS is good for 10-days of camp fun & excitement! You cannot use your FAST PASS for extended care or on bus trip days. Extended care is a separate fee payable at the time of drop-off. Get your FAST PASS early so you are ready to join camp right away! FAST PASSES are good for 10-days of camp, from June 19-August 11, at a fee of $600. At the end of the summer, if you haven’t used all 10-days, we’ll credit your Recreation account with the unused days at $60 per day.

Camp HoursCamp Kaleidoscope operates in one-week sessions, 9:30am-4pm with extended care available 8am-9:30am and 4pm-6pm. Splash Camp operates in two-week sessions, 9:30am-4pm with extended care available 8am-9:30am and 4pm-6pm. On Friday trip days hours will vary depending on trip.

Bring to CampPlease make sure your child is dressed comfortably and safely, remember camp can be messy so play clothes are a necessity. Campers should come to camp dressed in layers, wearing a hat, sunscreen, and closed toe shoes (NO SANDALS or FLIP-FLOPS). They should also bring plenty of snacks, a healthy lunch and drink each day, also sun screen if required during the day. A parent letter will be available on the first day of camp detailing any special days and supplies/clothing needed for that day. Please label all belongings with your child’s name and phone number. Toys, valuables and electronics (iPODS, MP3’s, cell phones, etc.) are discouraged and may be confiscated by program staff if they become problematic. The department is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Camp StaffCamp staff are selected for their enthusiasm and experience working with children. Our recreation leaders are college and high-school age students. Each staff member is certified in CPR and participates in several days of in-service training to learn how to lead the various activities in a safe and fun manner. In our camps, we also utilize CIT’s (Counselors In Training) who are 13 to 15 year old volunteers. Each group of 8 to 15 campers (depending on age group) is supervised by one recreation leader with CIT’s assisting.

CAMP KALEIDOSCOPE

Join us this summer for Camp Kaleidoscope! Mornings will be divided into three time blocks and after morning check-in it will be “campers choice”. Each time slot will include several fun activity choices. They choose what they want to do! Whether it’s joining a basketball coach outside, putting on their chef hats in the kitchen or getting creative in the art room, it’s up to them! There will be several new choices each week creating a Kaleidoscope of unique experiences.

In the afternoon, campers will be divided into two groups, entering K-1st graders and entering 2nd-6th graders. After lunch and free play, campers will continue their day with a variety of favorite camp activities with their peers. Some special activities that will be included in each weeks schedule include Tuesday Ice Cream Days, Thursday Swim Days and Friday Trip or Special Entertainer Days.

In an effort to make our camps convenient for parents and fun for kids, you can register for one week at a time or just drop-in for the day. Camp begins at 9:30am, please don’t be late or you might miss out on something special. Camp ends at 4pm. Extended care is available 8am-9:30am and 4pm-6pm.

SPLASH CAMP

Join us for this special two weeks of fun with water. Come to camp in your swimsuit and we’ll start the day (Mon – Thurs) with a swim lesson. Then we will continue with arts & crafts, sports & games, cooking & more. Each day will also include plenty of water fun, such as slip n’ slide, water balloons water relays, open swim (Tues. & Thurs. afternoons) and more.

Campers will be divided into two separate groups by grade, K-1st graders & 2nd-6th graders. Each group will have their own daily schedule supervised by a camp director and counselors. Your child will be placed in a swim level appropriated to his or her age and skill level on the first day of camp. Each session will include an all-camp special event and a special off-site trip.

Fantastical Adventures! June 19-30Each day will find us on a Fantastical Adventure. Whether it be creating our own beasts, playing muggle ball, making fairy houses or going on a dinosaur egg hunt you are sure to have fun in this fantasy filled session of camp. Join us, Adventure is out there! On Friday, June 30th we will travel to the Oakland Zoo for a day of fun and checking out all of the fantastic beasts.

Dive Into Books! July 17-28Books of all kinds will serve as our inspiration this session. We will dive into the pages of such books as the Joy of Cooking, Guinness Book of World Records, Give a Mouse a Cookie and so many more. This sessions bus adventure will find us enjoying a picnic and swimming at McNears Park in San Rafael, Friday, July 21st.

SUMMER TRIPS

Hop on the bus and join us for a Friday Adventure! Children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to join Camp on their weekly Friday adventures. Campers

will travel via chartered school bus and escorted by camp staff on their Friday quest for fun. The staff to camper ratio on trips is approximately 8 to 1.

Campers should be dressed appropriately for the day, including sunscreen, and bring lunch and spending money. Campers are required to have a current emergency card on file and wear a camp shirt. Mini-Hawk 3 Sports in 1 CampSkyhawks and the Mill Valley Recreation Department are pleased to offer this special camp for boys and girls 4 to 7 years old. Mini-Hawk programs allow young children to explore soccer, baseball, and basketball in a day-program setting. Camp CreativeIn this expressive art camp, professional artists will guide youth through theme based art projects using mixed media, fine art and music. Campers will learn a wide variety of art media that inspires imagination and strengthens observation skills through explorations of paint and sculpture, found object collage and more. Summer Jobs - Day Camp CounselorsAges 16 & up Summer jobs are available for persons who enjoy, and have experience (paid or volunteer) working with children. Recreation leaders provide leadership and supervision for children 5 to 12 years old at day camp, playgrounds and field trip activities. This position offers 20 to 40 hours of work per week and runs from June 19th to August 11th, with mandatory in-service training in June. Pay depends on experience. Full-time and part-time positions are available. Interested persons can pick up applications at MV Community Center, 180 Camino Alto, call 415-383-1370, or go to www.millvalleyrecreation.org. Applications will be accepted until available positions are filled.

Counselor In TrainingEach two-week session will include daily training topics such as leadership, behavior management, communication, and programming. Also, included will be CPR certification. The best part is the daily interaction and camp participation with the campers and counselor role models. CITs get work experience by assisting camp staff in the supervision of campers, with set-up and clean-up of activities, and share in the excitement and enthusiasm of the camp program. CITs attend all field trips and receive a CIT shirt and sweatshirt. All CITs are required to commit to a minimum of two consecutive weeks, fill out an application, attend an interview, and a mandatory training workshop Saturday, June 10th, 10am-2pm and pay a $145 registration fee. Participants need to be committed to the program and available every day of the session. Space in each session is limited. Due to the high demand for this program, participants may only register for one session. Registrations must be received by 6/1.
