Congratulations to this year’s BBCS STAR student, Josiah Henry. The Student Teacher Achievement Rec-ognition program, sponsored by The Professional Asso-ciation of Georgia Educators [PAGE], honors outstand-ing high school seniors and the teachers who have been

most instrumental in their aca-demic development.

Josiah chose his English and speech instructor, Shawntel Chisholm, as his STAR teacher.

After graduation, Henry wants to work full-time at a Christian camp. He plans to attend Bob Jones University, where he plans to major in Bible with a minor fo-cus in graphic design.

We are so proud of our junior and senior high school stu-dents who received top ratings and top placements in the Georgia Association of Christian Schools (GACS) Fine Arts competition in March.

All of our junior high music and speech participants re-ceived a 1 rating, the highest possible. Photography, Hand-bell Choir, Handchime Ensemble, and Small Instrument En-semble came in first place.

On the senior high level, of the 14 music competitions entered, 12 placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Of the 10 speech com-petitions entered, 8 placed. In addition, our students won first place in:

All in all, we brought home 44 trophies and medals.Special thanks to our fine arts coordinator and hand-

bell coach, Mrs. Borton; speech coach, Mrs. Chisholm; and band/choral director, Mrs. Henry; and art coach, Mrs. Black. We also appreciate the parents involved in the success of the Fine Arts program at BBCS.

State winners on the senior high level head to Bob Jones University April 10-12 to compete in the American Association of Christian Schools’ national competition. The event attracts approximately 3,000 students from schools nationwide. We look forward to great wins from our young people!

First, second, and third place Winter Reading Contest winners pose with their certificates. The contest was open to students in K-6th grade. Students who read or were read to for at least 360 minutes will receive a free ticket to Six Flags.

Where in the World Is... Alex Board?Upon finishing co-leading the soccer ministry team for Ma-ranatha Baptist Bible College this past summer, 2005 BBCS graduate Alex Board headed for Granada, Nicaragua for a 10-month internship with Soccer Without Borders. The orga-nization is designed “to use soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing underserved youth a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion and personal growth.”

Alex currently serves as Director of Coaching, giving in-put to the Nicaraguan coaches and holding coaching clinics for the community. He is starting a women’s team in Granada that will have the capability of playing in the 1st division pre-mier league in Nicaragua.

Alex says, “My time here has been phenomenal. God has put me in a place where I can use the gifts He has given me on a daily basis. Soccer is a great passion of mine, and I am overwhelmed with joy every time I get to see kids come from places of nothing with huge smiles on their faces just

the U.S. and look for an opportunity to again use his soc-cer skills. He hopes and prays that God will open a door in which he can give the Gospel through the avenue of soccer. Although soccer can help children overcome obstacles and positively affect their lives, ultimately, God is the answer to anyone’s needs or sense of emptiness.

DRAMA: Story PerformedBBCS provides opportunities for involvement in drama from kindergarten through 12th grade. Every May the kindergar-ten performs a music/drama program as part of its gradua-tion. In the spring the speech contestants perform in a fine arts show-case. In addition to this, students in grades 9-12 may audi-tion to be part of the school’s ministry team, which presents a program in various local churches. What’s your story?

Sixth graders hold cards they crafted for the class’s adopted soldier, Major Kenny Miller. Major Miller currently serves at Camp Phoenix in Afghanistan as Director of Emergency Ser-vices. He is making arrangements to talk with the students via Skype in the near future.

The winter revival with Evangelist Steve Pettit brought fun, games, and down-home music along with large doses of encouragement, inspiration, and challenge.

When asked what they remem-bered most about the week, several students responded:

Three Weak WomenThis year’s BBCS Ministry Team presented Three Weak Women. Written by Bill Katka, the drama inter-twines the lives of the missionaries Gladys Aylward, Amy Carmichael,

and Mary Slessor. Our 6-member drama team consisted of girls ranging from 9th-12th grade. The presentation opened with two selections played by the brass ensemble, and our men’s ensemble provided special music at key points in the drama. We had the privilege of ministering in seven different churches plus school chapel.

Through a generous donation, the BBCS boys basketball pro-gram has purchased a Shoot-A-Way automat-ic basketball shooting machine. The device will instantly rebound a made or missed shot and give a direct return pass for another shot. We expect to have it for spring practice and look forward to how it will improve our pro-gram.

BBCS Eagle Cheerleaders tug on their hair bows in what has become a trade-mark move in their cheer routine. The girls took first place in the Georgia Christian Athletic Association state competition for the 4th year in a row.
