“Our Commitment Today Impacts a Child’s Tomorrow!”
With 22 years serving as social worker
and director of Early Intervention and
Family Services, 8 years serving as the
Developmental Disability Director and
Community Services Director for OPC
Area Program and 8 years serving as
Executive Director at the Person
County Partnership for Children, I have
had a blessed career! I have completely
enjoyed the work! And I have had the
great opportunity to work alongside the
most dedicated professionals ever! I
cannot say anything but good things.
My career has been wonderfully fulfill-
ing! I am completely grateful.
The last 8 years have kind of zipped
by! When I was doing the research for
our recent Celebration, it was hard to
believe I had been here that long!
Thank you all so much for your support
and for your contributions to help the
Partnership for Children achieve so
much for our young children! If you
weren’t able to attend the Celebration,
I hope you will take a minute to take a
look at the accomplishment timeline
printed in the newsletter. Our county
should be very proud! There’s still
plenty to do, but there are many, many
people in Person County that are all
working to improve the lives of our
young children and their families! Keep
up the good work!
As I retire, please know that I am very
thankful for the opportunity to work at
the Partnership for Children. There are
many people, agencies, businesses, in-
dustries, civic groups, clubs, govern-
ment, churches, etc. that are commit-
ted to strong programs for our young-
est citizens. Person County is a great
place to work and raise our children.
Thank you all
for the great
opportunity to
work with you.
It has been a
great blessing!
Most
sincerely,
Judy R. Batten

Person County Partnership for Children Provider Recognition
This was written by Pam Woods from the Department of Social Services in recognition of our
Child Care Providers at our recent Celebration on 3/27/14.
Introduction to Recognition Activities
What a great evening this is. We are celebrating fabulous programs for preschool age children
and very importantly honoring and recognizing the excellence of our Person Co. child care
providers, the professionals who provide care of and offer stability for our children. It is
crucial to acknowledge that parents could not contently attend work or educational classes
and training without you. Many children would not be sufficiently prepared for school with-
out you. AND ... We could not have essential economic development in our County without
you.
Quality of Child Care
We have providers in this room who have:
Demonstrated commitment to children and the community by pursuing and completing
education in child development to build knowledge and skills to best serve our chil-
dren and families.
Attended many hours of training to provide safety, exceptional care, and quality daily
activities for children to learn and grow.
Successfully accomplish a higher level of quality of care in the NC Star rated system.
(1 Star meets minimum standards in Education and Program and 5 Stars meets the high-
est standards).
I very proudly report that 83% (33 out of 40 facilities) are a 3, 4 or 5 Star facility. Out
of these 33 facilities, 67% are 4 and 5 Star. That’s impressive.
Thank you
Child care providers serve our youngest citizens, our preschoolers and school age children to
age 13. Young children cannot always sufficiently express their thanks and appreciation to
providers in words. If they could, I think they would say:
Thank you for your love and nurturing. The hugs, touches, and smiles you give
just to me. I thrive on it.
Thank you for your attention. Those times when you listen to me, play with
me, and give me important instructions. You help me feel good about my-
self and motivate me to do my best.
Thank you for the basic care I receive. You answer my cries when I need a
diaper change, require sleep, or desire to eat. I love you because you
want to make me comfortable.
Thank you for your patience. I know I sometimes do things that make your
face become very stern, but you find a way to make that look quickly go
away so that you can move me along in a different and better direction.
Page 3 Spring 2014
You are my role model and I see positive ways to handle my frustration.
Thank you for your vigilance. You keep a safe and clean environment, properly
prepare my meals and snacks, and tell my parent when you are concerned
about my health. I don’t suffer from neglect.
Thank you for talking to and reading to me. I like to learn new words. My mind
is imagining about people, animals, feelings and all kinds of new experiences
and explorations. You are teaching me about life and how to think, socialize
and enjoy books.
Thank you for allowing me to play. The toys, games, and exercise and singing
activities indoors and outdoors are fun. Because of you, I am learning valuable
skills and building a healthy mind and body.
And………… Finally
Thank you for having a genuine love of children. I know this because you are
friendly, positive, energetic, calm, and seem to handle everything with ease.
I am so grateful you enjoy spending time with me and taking care of me.
I personally would like to say to our providers this evening, thank you so much for choosing child
care as your career.

Person County Children are a Wise Investment!
Over 1450 children in Person County currently receive books from the Dolly Parton
Imagination Library. With funding from Person County individuals, local businesses,
civic groups, industry, and United Way, this literacy initiative reaches out to all pre-
school children in Person County to instill a life-long love for reading and learning. In
order to assure that this valuable program continues to bring the joy of reading to
children, please consider making a donation to the Person County Partnership for Children.
For $30.00 a year, your tax deductible donation will fund one book a month for a pre-school aged child in
Person County.
