President's Corner

With the advent of Summer it’s time to think about summer projects, vaca-

tions and perhaps doing a little boating or fishing on Lawrence Lake. Me?

I’m thinking about all the volunteer time we’ve spent. Every volunteer hour

given is a gift, it can never be retained or stored: only spent. During our

recent Trash Daze weekend volunteers spent a total of 120 hours of time

helping their fellow neighbors. WOW! Nice turn-out. From the board of di-

rectors a hearty thank-you.

This past spring has seen a flourish of new families who have chosen to call

Scenic Shores home. If you see them out and about kindly give them a

warm welcome.

Have you marked the calendar for the 16th of July @ 10 am in the park

yet? There are some important issues we have to cover so be sure to arrive

on time and perhaps we will be able to get out early. Bring a chair if you

have one as there’s limited seating. Hope to see you there.

Oops, almost forgot, there will be a State required water meeting following

the Association meeting. This meeting will be open to all customers of the

water company and the public as well. We will be discussing water savings

and setting future water reserve goals. If your interested just stay after the

association meeting.

A word about the Lake Management noxious weeds eradication pro-

ject. Last year the lake group was very aggressive with spraying the

weeds.

Result: this past winter and spring we’ve had several floating masses and

many thousands of seeds (Yellow Flag Iris) arrive upon our beach.

Thurston county has assured us they will remove the remaining mats. Oil

from the Yellow Flag Iris is an irritant to humans so let’s try and avoid the

remaining mats until the county comes out and removes them. (We have

roped off the one between the docks) I have learned that when working

with the county, patience is the key. In the mean time our grounds-keeper

is burning the seeds and sprouts several times a month. —- Thank you

The Annual meeting is scheduled for

July 16, 2016 at 10am. The meeting

will be held at Scenic Shores Commu-

nity Park under the Pole Barn. Pro-

posed agenda items to date are: The new

Violations notification procedures, Fire

Department sending representative,

Yellow Flag Iris eradication,

New Water Company Billing rates.

If you have an agenda topic you would

like heard at the meeting, they need to be

submitted in writing and post marked by

July 3rd, 2016 in order for them to be

considered. Send submissions to SSCA

PO Box 1775, Yelm, WA 98597. If you

cannot make the meeting but would like

a proxy vote, please call Customer Ser-

vice at 360-742-9348 or download the

form from or website

The Fourth of July is for

family and fun; whether you enjoy an

all-out-festival or you just want to ap-

preciate our beautiful park along the

shores of Lawrence Lake.

Due to fire hazards, property protection

and pet concerns, the membership voted

a ban on fireworks in the neighborhood

with steep fines. We ask you to enjoy

your fireworks along the beach in the

park/well field with your neighbors from

8pm until? Entrants to the park must

accompany someone with a working

gate card.

Picnic tables and pole-barn areas will be

first come, first serve.

The Lawrence Lake Boat Parade

starts at noon. The gathering point is at

the Lawrence Lake West docks. No boat

too small so please feel free to join in

and impress the spectators.

HOA Semi-Annual Meeting

Access to Scenic Shores Minutes

Recently we added a feature to the Scenic

Shores website whereby members can review

the previous annual/semi-annual meeting

minutes. To do so, the user name is Admin and

the password is SSCA. This one done to im-

prove the communication flow to Scenic

Shores residents.

FIREWORKS

Park Rentals Anyone interested in renting the park

should check our web site: scenicshorescom-

munity.com under forms for associated costs

and rules. Remember, reserving the park

means you are reserving the pole barn or

fire pit area. Other people can still utilize

the boat launch and other picnic areas. Its

first come first serve.

Burn Ban

Every year there is usually a burn ban so

look for the dates to be posted out in front of

the Fire station! Since it has been so wet the

dates will probably vary from last year. The

Burn ban, when instated, restricts all types of

burning except BBQ’s and fire pits.

Architectural Business

In a sense, each of us is an Island. In another sense, however, we are all one. For though islands appear separate,

and may even be situated at great distances from one another, they are only extrusions of the same planet, Earth.

As always we are looking for a few good

neighbors to lend us a helping hand. The

board has several openings that need filling.

The board meets once a month, usually on

the third Saturday @ 8 AM. This is a great

way to meet some of your neighbors and

support your community at the same time.

Scenic Shores has a great future but we

need members to get involved. Most of the

Board members have dedicated countless

hours and years into the improvement of

our community; so if you would like to make

a difference or have new ideas and energy

give us a call or just drop by at the next

meeting. You do not have to have prior ex-

perience, just be willing to put in some time

and learn. JOIN US!

With the good weather upon us, home im-

provement projects will follow. Springtime

is when our association begins to see new

building improvements and projects

throughout the neighborhood.

Just a reminder: all new projects need pri-

or written approval before work can begin.

Architectural change forms can be down-

loaded at

http://www.scenicshorescommunity.com/arc

hitectural_committee.html. Don’t forget to

submit your plans early as any change re-

quest may take up to thirty days.

Board Members Needed

As always, Trash Daze was a huge success. Fifty-

seven of our neighbors used the service at least once

and several came back for a repeat performance.

Bill, the metal guy, hauled off several large trailer

loads.

It begs to be asked, “Where does all this stuff come

from?”

We don’t have the numbers yet, but a big ‘thank you’

needs to go out to LeMays & Rural Garbage service

for donating the containers.

I would like to acknowledge this years volunteers.

First and foremost our dumpster monkey Kris Hol-

lins, on the ground we had Kevin Roth on keys, Cecil

Klebe & Arthur Limehouse doing gofer work. Ken

Phillips on the wood chipper. Those who could just

lend us a few hours were: Tina Kelly, Steven Slater,

Roger Wofford and the new guy… what was his

name? That’s right Lee Hines. Even Pat McCauley

dropped by.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire

Scenic Shores Community I would like to say thank

you. Job well done.

Water Works

This past spring has been a busy one for your water team. A good heads up from our grounds-keeper as

he discovered a couple of leaking valves in the well-field. Our wa-

ter team was able to effect a repair. In the process we discovered

So-3 (well 3, in laymen's terms) was nonfunctional. We contract-

ed Skyline pump & machine from Centralia to get the job done.

They were very professional and the well was up and working in

short order.

The 2015 Annual Water Report will be out soon. We will be doing

something different. Anyone with ebilling will receive the CCR

via email. Rest assured if you want a hard copy you will be able

to down load it from our website.

We would like to encourage everyone to attend the July 16th meeting. The water company will be rolling

out a new rate structure which will go into effect this fall. Also there will be a Water Use Efficiency

meeting.

Water Saving Tips

Sweep the driveway instead of hosing it down. It’s better exercise as well.

When filling pools, ponds, tubs, ect do not submerge end of hose into the water. This could lead to back-

siphonage and system contamination. Don’t forget to monitor the filling process. Last summer several

customers forgot to turn off the hose before going to bed… imagine the bill.

Get a timer for lawn watering. Wash your car on the lawn that way you kill two birds with one stone.

Thank you.
