From the emergency room, to the operating room, a patient room to the room of a new mom and her baby, the Columbus Community Hospital Medical Imaging Department’s portable imaging unit provides digital photos and quick processing at a moment’s notice to assist providers in delivering quality care to patients.
“It really speeds up the process,” said Joan Coughlin, RTR, CT, M. “It is one of our most used pieces of equipment in the department.”
Because the system has wheels, it can be used anywhere in the hospital. Rather than the patient being moved to the Medical Imaging Department, the equipment is brought right to the patient. Once the image is taken, the

digital photo may be viewed right then and there on the machine, or it may be sent to a digital archiving system for physicians to view.
The unit is used on average over 100 times a month for emergency, routine, and surgical situations including chest pain, checking the positioning of total knee and hip replacements, preemie baby chest x-rays, PICC line placement, and more.
While the department has used a mobile system for years, the new digital system brings efficiency to the department. “Patients are just amazed that we can see the image right away,” said Sue Peeler, RTR, M.
Funds from all 2017 Foundation events (Toasts and Tastes, Golf Classic, Chicken Shoot) will be used to offset the purchase of the mobile equipment.
“The Foundation is proud to be a part of improving the level of technology offered at CCH and increasing patient comfort and safety,” said Kristi Line, CCH Foundation Executive Director.
The Columbus Community Hospital Medical Imaging Department provides emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The department is located on the hospital’s first floor across from the registration desk.
Madison Radiologists serve patients at Columbus Community Hospital. As the largest independent radiology group in South Central Wisconsin, the group of over 30 board certified radiologists has been providing leading edge medical imaging services and imaging interventions to residents of Madison and surrounding communities for over 34 years.
Subspecialty radiology services provided by Madison Radiologists include: MRI, mammography and breast biopsy, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, cardiovascular and interventional radiology, neurointerventional radiology, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and general diagnostic radiology.
Services offered in the CCH Medical Imaging Department include bone densitometry, Computerized Tomography (CT), digital mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, routine x-rays of bones (skulls, sinuses, chest, spine, extremities) chest, abdomen, etc., general diagnostic radiology, and ultrasound.

The Lights of Love is an annual event hosted by the Volunteers of Columbus Community Hospital. The event, held the second Sunday of December, invites friends of CCH to show appreciation for family and friends through the purchase of a light in their memory or honor. White lights are given in memory of those we have lost. Colored lights are given in appreciation of those who are living. Blue lights are given in honor of those in the U.S. Military. Proceeds from the event are used to purchase Lifeline units for the CCH Lifeline Program.

On behalf of the Volunteers of Columbus Community Hospital thank you to all of those who donated to the 32nd Annual Lights of Love. The Lights of Love is held each year on the second Sunday in December. Community members remember those they have lost or show appreciation for family and friends through the purchase of a light in their memory or honor. White lights represent those being remembered and colored lights represent those being honored. Blue lights honor members of the United States Military, or a loved one living overseas.
Funds from the event are used to purchase equipment for the CCH Lifeline program, a home emergency response system used by residents in the hospital’s service area. Lifeline enables elderly, handicapped or medically-fragile persons to live in dependently, while assuring them that if they need help quickly, it will be available to them at the press of a button. The service is available to those with traditional landline phone service and cellular or wireless service. A GPS system is also available. New beds increase patient comfort in Orthopedic Excellence CenterIn 2016, the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation asked for your help to increase the comfort level for our patients in our total joint replacement center by donating funds for the purchase of new patient beds. Our donors answered by giving over $18,490 for new beds.
The beds have been purchased, placed, and are being used by The Prairie Ridge Center for Orthopedic Excellence Program. This innovative and proven system of orthopedic care is different from traditional approaches. It all starts with our expert medical team, including a dedicated care coordinator who will guide you every step of the way. And your surgery takes place under the care of the dedicated surgery team at Columbus Community Hospital, with your choice of therapy services at two convenient locations in Beaver Dam and Columbus.
In addition, our orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Robert Coe and Dr. Matthew Niesen, now offer custom knee replacements. A custom knee replacement uses 3D technology to provide a personalized fit to conform to the patient’s knee.
