We hope that you will be able to join us this semester for an interesting, informative and

exciting night out. Our General Interest Program offers a variety of courses to meet

your needs and interests. It is recommended to register early to ensure placement in a

class. Many fill quickly and you don’t want to be left out! Browse our catalog to find a

class that is right for you.

We also offer free Academic Programs designed to help those of you who need to

further your formal education or who have immigrated to America. We have free ABE,

GED, ESL, and Citizenship classes in the evening as well as during the day. We also

offer programs in conjunction with the Milford Literacy Center. If you need to get your

high school diploma, want to become a U. S. citizen, or want to improve your ability to

read, write and speak English, then we are the place for you. Please be sure to read the

catalog for important information on class registration and start dates.

The Milford Adult Education program offers you a wonderful opportunity to continue

General Interest Registration

There are TWO ways to register for a General Interest class.

1) MAIL: Complete the Spring 2018 Registration Form and

MAIL the form with payment to the Milford Adult

Education Office, Parsons Complex, 70 West River Street,

Milford, CT 06460. (QUICK & EASY!!)

2) IN PERSON: Drop off your registration in person at the

Adult Education Office, located in the Parsons building.

The Adult Education office is open Monday - Friday, from

8:30 – 4:00 p.m. Note that there is a locked drop box

outside the office where you may deposit your registration

materials should the personnel in the Adult Ed office be

unavailable. We suggest you complete your registration

form before you arrive. Walk-in Registrations will be

accepted from Tues., January 2nd

through Wed., January

31st. Classes begin the week of February 26

th.

Course registration is on a first come, first served basis. A late

fee of $10 for each class will apply to any registration

received after the General Interest Deadline: January 31st

.

IMPORTANT: Mark your calendar with the dates that your

General Interest class is held. You DO NOT receive

confirmation of registration. You are ONLY notified if a class

is canceled or rescheduled.

Class Withdrawal Deadline/Refunds: Wednesday, Feb. 7th

Any General Interest class withdrawal must be received by the

Adult Ed Office no later than Wednesday, February 7th. A

refund will be issued minus a $10 processing fee for class

withdrawals. REFUNDS WILL NOT BE GIVEN for ANY

reason after this date.

General Education Development (GED)

English as a Second Language (ESL)

U.S. Citizenship

No Charge for materials for GED/ESL/CITIZENSHIP

courses: The Milford Adult Education Program is in

compliance with Connecticut General Statutes Sec.10-73a and

does not charge fees for registration, textbooks or materials

used in mandated program areas. All Mandated Classes

(ABE/Pre-GED, GED, ESL & Citizenship) are free to Milford

Residents.

All students must meet with the Director for academic

counseling before registering for the GED test.

Citizenship Classes Registration Make an appointment (see

below).

Academic Classes (Day/Evening): Registration and testing

for both day and evening ABE, GED and ESL classes are at

Foran High School, Room 305, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on

Tuesday & Thursday. Allow two hours for registration and

appraisal. Please call the Milford Adult Ed office at (203) 783-

3461 to make an appointment.

GED© Test: To register for the GED

© exam, students must

be CT residents, 17 years old, officially withdrawn from school

for at least six months, and must submit a withdrawal form

with a parent or guardian signature. Students who are 18

years old may submit, in lieu of a withdrawal form, a letter

from their last high school that the class with which they

entered ninth grade (or would have entered if never enrolled

in high school) has already graduated.

Students can begin the GED© registration process online at

GED.com and complete the process in person at the Milford

Adult Education office at 70 West River Street by

appointment. Foran High School is NOT a test site. Test site

is determined at the time of test registration. You must have a

government form of photo ID when registering to take the test.

Applicants who are 21 years of age or older and not a veteran

must pay an initial fee of $13 to take the test. The fee to

retake the test is also $13. Applicants under the age of 21

and veterans who have served at least 181 days of active

duty at the time of registration are exempt from fees. All fees

are non-refundable. Money orders or bank checks are

payable to Milford Adult Education.

GED® Test Accommodations

Accommodations for the GED® test are available for qualified

individuals with a disability. For more information contact Lori

Hart, (203) 783-3461. You may also contact Sabrina

Mancini at the Connecticut State Department of Education at

(860) 807-2110.

National External Diploma Program (NEDP): This

program is for adults who have acquired their academic skills

through life and work experiences and can demonstrate this

knowledge. Contact the West Haven Adult Education Dept.

at (203) 937-4375 for information.

Adult Basic Education:

ABE/Pre-GED

This course is designed to strengthen

basic skills to prepare students for

enrollment in the GED classes. The

class teaches basic math skills,

grammar, sentence and paragraph

structure and essay writing. Once

these basic skills have been mastered,

students continue to the GED class to

prepare for the state GED exam.

General Education Development

(GED)

This course prepares adult learners for

the four-part, computer-based GED©

exam to earn a State of Connecticut

diploma. Students receive necessary

instruction in each of four subject

areas: science, social studies, math

and language arts, plus basic

computer skills to take the exam.

Instructors will also review the official

website, GED.com, where students

can access related exam information

and exam registration procedures.

Students must be at least 17 years old

and officially withdrawn from school to

American Citizenship

This course is designed to prepare

prospective United States citizens for

the naturalization examination. There

will be a brief overview of U.S. History,

the Constitution and the three

branches of federal, state and local

This course is divided into two

General Policies

The Adult Education Program is operated

by the Milford Board of Education under

the provisions of the statutes of the State

of Connecticut. The General Interest

program is open to residents as well as

non-residents who are 18 years of age

and older. To enroll in Basic Skills or GED

classes, a student must be 17 and no

longer enrolled in day school. Students

who are at least 17 years old and have

been withdrawn from school for six months

and are CT residents are eligible to take

the GED exam. ABE, GED, ESL and

Citizenship are tuition free classes.

Waiver of Responsibility

Adult Education instructors are selected

for their subject expertise. The Milford

Board of Education and the Adult

Education program do not promote the

private services of the instructors nor

endorse the companies with whom they

are associated. Students are solely

responsible for how the information

provided in these courses applies to them.

Registration

NO walk-in registrations can be accepted

by any instructor for any class. All

registrations must be made in advance

through the Adult Education Office.

January 31, 2018 is the last day of

registration. After this date, a late fee of

$10 per class is added.

NO registration confirmation will be

mailed to you; we will contact you only

if your class must be postponed or

canceled.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees for each course appear

with the course description. Milford Senior

Citizens (60 years or older) will receive a

reduction off the tuition where noted.

Books and materials for all classes will be

acquired by students at their own

expense. See class descriptions for

details.

Withdrawing from a class

Class withdrawals will be honored ONLY if

requested by February 7th. No refunds

for ANY reason are given after this

date: NO EXCEPTIONS. A processing fee

of $10 will be deducted from the refund.

Refunds will be issued by the end of the

semester.

Refunds

If a class has to be cancelled for any

reason refunds will be processed as

quickly as possible. Allow approximately 4

weeks from the start date of the class to

receive your refund in the mail. If you have

not received it after that time, please call

the office (203) 783-7461.

Parking

Parking is permitted only in designated

areas. Do not park in fire zones,

handicapped areas, or in front of any

doorway. Please be considerate.

Violators may be towed.

School Closings

Classes will not meet when schools are

closed for holidays, vacations, or bad

weather. If the weather deteriorates

during a scheduled school day

necessitating canceling of evening

classes, an announcement will be made

on local radio stations and WTNH-TV,

Channel 8.

Student Regulations

Smoking in any building or on school

grounds is prohibited. Refreshments are

permitted only in the cafeteria or

designated areas.

Location

Classes are held at the site listed under

the course description. All activities

offered are held in accessible locations.

The administration reserves the right to

limit enrollment, withdraw courses or

discontinue classes at any time without

notice.

applies for each class after this date.

Mark your calendars with the dates of your classes. YOU DO NOT RECEIVE CONFIRMATION OF

REGISTRATION. YOU WILL ONLY BE NOTIFIED IF A CLASS HAS TO BE CANCELLED OR

RESCHEDULED BY US.

REFUNDS for withdrawals are only given if you notify us by Wednesday, February 7, 2018 that you are

withdrawing. A $10 processing fee is deducted from refunds for withdrawing from a class.

REFUNDS for class cancels will be done 4 weeks after the start of class.

A $25 FEE IS CHARGED FOR ANY CHECK RETURNED TO US BY THE BANK.
