FAMILY NEWS & MINISTRY UPDATES

Welcome New Members… Blake and Kelly Potter placed member-ship on Sunday. Their address is 1815 Point Wood Drive; Knoxville; 37920. Blake is a supervisor at Southeastern Freight Lines and Kelly is a teacher at Andersonville Elementary.

Baptism Anthony Conti, one of our JustLead high school students, was baptized by Matt Deen Sunday, December 30. Anthony’s address is 3200 Atchley Ridge Way, Apt 938, Knoxville, TN 37919.

In Sympathy Heather Hunt’s mother, Vickie Lynn Rhodes, passed away on December 25. Graveside services were held on Decem-ber 29 in Collierville, TN.

Remember in prayer… Jeremiah Hook would like for us to pray for his mother, Sherry Tooley, who lives in Louisville, KY. She is having pulmonary and gall bladder problems and may need to undergo surgery. Former member Lisa Acuff has had some health challenges the past couple of years, and she would love cards from the Laurel family. Her address is 2615 South-hurst Dr. Huntsville AL 35803. Kaleigh (Lain) Smoak has been suffering since August with extreme fatigue and has undergone tests, but so far they have come back normal. Please pray that the doctors will be able to find what is wrong and how to treat it. Kaleigh is the wife of Sully Smoak and the daughter of Kim and Dorian Lain.

Thank you…

The Taylors send a word of thanks to the elders, staff and our church family at Laurel for the reception following the recent Candlelight service, as well as the expressions of love, apprecia-tion, and gifts that were given. Cindy and I are truly humbled and grateful for your continued support in ministry here as opportunity permits. 18 years serving in worship ministry leadership at Laurel has been a time of spiritual growth and renewal for so many. I am confident in Len Causey's vision, abil-ity, and heart for worship, as well as the dedicated worship/AV teams in carrying out such a smooth transition in roles. Thank you for your continued prayers for my health and focus as I lean on the encouraging words of one of my favorite hymns..."His faithful follower I would be, for by His hand He leadeth me" - Mike Taylor

Continue to pray for…

Inclement Weather Policy We believe it is in the best interest of everyone for us to have a policy that when snow and ice make travel in Knoxville hazardous, we will cancel both Sunday morning services and evening H2H groups. Instead, we plan to have one service at 4:00 p.m. Travel decisions should be

made by each family and whether a few or a few hundred are able to come we will worship together then. Also, we will do our best to have an appropriate message on Facebook, Twitter, on our website, and WBIR telling about cancellations.

LYF is sponsoring a canned food drive starting January 13 and ending Super Bowl Sunday (February 3). All grocery goods bought will be given to the Bread of LYF food pantry, while any monetary donations will benefit Second Harvest. This food drive is part of an annual con-test between area youth ministries. Here’s how it works: all food donated between now and February 3 will be weighed by the youth minister at each of the competing churches. Each $1 donat-ed will count as 3 pounds of food (please make check payable to Laurel Church of Christ and include “LYF Souper Bowl Bash” as the notation). All monetary do-nations will be passed on to Second Har-vest Food Bank. The winner of our con-test will be determined by total pound-age of donated food. The results of the contest will be revealed at the February 10 area-wide devotional hosted by the Hardin Valley Church of Christ. The winning youth ministry will take possession of the coveted Souper Bowl Bash trophy for one year. Help area families with your donations, and help LYF continue our reign as Souper Bowl Bash champions.

Wednesday Night Dinners Resume

January 9!

Jonathan Thomas (JT) is teaching a new Sunday morning class on parenting teenagers beginning in January and running through March 31. This class is available for people of all ages, as it is never too early to learn how to parent teens, and we need those who are seasoned par-ents to offer perspective. We will begin by viewing some scenes from the recent movie Eighth Grade to give us a frame-work to better understand the subcul-ture in which our students and children are living. We will sharpen our par-enting and relational skills by experienc-ing exercises and discussions together. From gaming to dating, household chores to healthy sleep habits, social media to pornography, we plan to tack-le difficult topics together.

Please text JT at 865-438-4255 if you plan to attend some or all of our par-enting teens class.
