This class will cover a variety of metalsmithing techniques with an emphasis on jewelry making. Students will learn how to use hand tools, torches, files, and solder, and finish metal wire and sheet. This is a great course for people who would like to learn findings and begin adding metal to their work. Please pick up a tool supply list at the Carbondale front desk. Tool supplies should be purchased before the first day of class. Students are also responsible for metal supplies, which can be purchased at the front desk at the bulk, discounted rate of $70. Metals supply cost is not associated with the tool kit supply list.

Learn how to use metal wire to create exciting pieces of jewelry. Start with basic wire wrapping, chain making, and jump rings; then move on to head pins, ear wires, and simple soldering and hand-forming techniques. Come away with several beautiful pieces of jewelry. This is a class for all levels. Please pick up a tool and supply list at the Carbondale front desk. There is a $40 metals fee that students can pay at the Carbondale front desk.

A digital camera, external hard drive, and other supplies are required; please see the syllabus for details.

Astrolab kit is required ($140 plus tax plus shipping; to order contact Steamboat Campus store at 970-870-4418. Student participation in a group "Star Party" Field Trip is required for this class. See the syllabus for details.

Lab kit and microscope purchase required. See the syllabus for details.
