2017 DATES TO REMEMBER

June 30 Cycle II Grants Deadline

July 13-16 KI Convention, Paris, France

August 24-27 FL Kiwanis 100th District Convention, Naples, FL

Fellow Kiwanians,

Now the Kiwanis year is well more than half over. We are rapidly approaching both ICON (next month under the Eiffel Tower) and DCON. While the Florida District will be fairly well represented in Paris, including our candidate for International Trustee, Past Gov. Chuck Gugliuzza, there will be many more of us in Naples, enjoying the Gulf breezes and carrying on the business of Kiwanis here in our District.

The Florida Kiwanis Foundation, while it has not deemed it necessary to change its name, continues to provide funds for a myriad of endeavors throughout the District, in aid to the children. As a follow up to Children’s Week in Tallahassee, another project, principally funded by the Foundation, will be the Kids Packs , a Large Scale Service Project, on Thursday afternoon during the convention in August. The goal is to assemble 1000 backpacks for chemo kids and/or displaced kids removed from their homes for a variety of reasons. These backpacks will be filled with items such as a stuffed animal, activity books as well as craft activities, tissues, a blanket, a book to read, toothbrush and other hygiene products. This will be an effort to create a small package of life essentials. You will have the opportunity to volunteer for the “assembly line” to achieve the mission.

“Exert your talents, and distinguish yourself, and don’t think of retiring from the world, until the world will be sorry that you retire”. ~ Samuel Johnson

Dr. Timothy Brooks of the Kiwanis Club of Bartow received the Ralph Davis Fellow award from Foundation President Jim Meyer and was congratulated by Division 15 Trustee, Kelly Casey.

Bartow Treasurer, Bill Bohde, presented the annual Foundation contributions to Div 15 Trustee, Kelly Casey, with FKF President Jim Meyer and Bartow President Scott Young, assisting.

Ralph Davis Fellow

This Fellowship is an elite group of super dedicated Kiwanians and friends to Kiwanis that have either donated $1000 or more to the endowment fund, or so moved others to contribute $1000 or more in their name. Each Ralph Davis Fellow is given a serialized medallion to wear around their neck at Kiwanis functions, as well as a wall shadow box and a lapel pin.

Additional contributions are noted as Diamond Level Ralph Davis awards and are so noted by a change in the color of the neck ribbon and the issuance of jewel embedded pins denoting the Diamond Level. Occasionally, matching donation programs cover part of the contribution. The funds go directly into the Endowment Fund to insure a lasting legacy for the children. Income from the Endowment Fund is redistributed by way of grants to local clubs for project assistance.

Friends of the Foundation

LETTER FROM THE FOUNDATION PRESIDENT (continued from Page 1)

President-Elect Bill Ricigliano has been able to reschedule the ‘Friends of the Foundation’ dinner to take place at the Deep Lagoon restaurant which is owned by the same group as the previously scheduled location. Be certain to become a Friend of the Foundation and join us at the launch of this newest group of ardent Foundation supporters.

Then there is the Snazzy Traveler, open for free to Kiwanians and providing strong cost savings on travel related expenses. The Wylie One and crew have brought us an excellent affinity program that can provide the Foundation with an excellent return, if it is well utilized by the thousands of Kiwanians out there by simply signing up for the benefits. Check out the Foundation website for details.

Yours in Kiwanis, Jim Meyer
