Dear friends,

We cannot predict where this virus will lead us, but I pray that we remain safe and healthy. I pray that we gain strength and vision while we get through these difficult times. As an ancient people we have withstood many risks. Our most important mission is to preserve life. L’Chaim.Passover is a holiday that we look forward to each year. Retelling the story of the Exodus and gathering with our families as we dine together, sharing a wonderful Passover feast. We thank God for freedom and pray that all people will one day be free. This year we are celebrating differently as we must be isolated physically from each other. Let us help ourselves and others live up to our best potential as caring human beings and as serious Jews. Presidents Message

There is a saying, “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” Well, this is surely a time that life has given all of us lemons, but it s up to all of us to take this time and do something positive with it… turn it into something wonderful!! Hopefully all of you are following the CDC’s recommendations for social distancing and keeping safe. It feels like a heavy burden, but we will get through this together! First off, get out of your little “black book” and start making phone calls to your long lost friends, past neighbors, past co-workers, classmates, people from the past. Make contact as everyone needs it. Of course it is important to keep in touch with your family and friends too. Here is a list of some other things you can do while at home: 1. Get on the computer and force yourself to learn something about social media, computer software and especially how to video chatting. or conferencing. If you don’t know how , contact someone who does. They will be glad to help you out. Don’t be afraid You won’t kill or ruin anything! Learn something new each day. 2. Spring cleaning! Need I say more. 3. Unfinished projects - now is the time to complete them. Be Honest as you you know you have some! 4. Mending - all those things that have been waiting for you to sew on the button or mend it, now is the time. 5. Take a walk each day. The exercise, sunshine and fresh air is good for you! 6. Once you get the hang of using your computer, take look around. There are artists that are streaming their performances for friend you can take museum “tours”on your computer for free. 7.Get out those old books that teach Hebrew and brush up on it or learn it. While you are at it , teach yourself a foreign language that you already know. or brush up on a language that you already know. Duolingo is an app that is still free, and offers six languages - Spanish, French, German, Italian, English, and Portuguese. Open the app, and it’s like a game,. It uses pictures, your smartphone’s microphone and video clips to help you lear the words, recite them and write them out as well. 8. Write actual letters to family and friends and send them through real U.S. mail. How nice it would be get a real letter and you will feel great when yo send one. con’t on page 3

9. Try on all your clothes and determine whether they “spark joy” and actually fit as long as you are at it, go through this process with your junk drawer and supply shelves. 10.Organize all those old photos. If you have a scanner, scan them and make up a digital album that you can share with your family for a holiday present. You can do the same with those old cherished recipes. This is also a time for meditation and prayer. Guide those negative thoughts into something positive. What are you thankful for? What do you really need in you life? Take the time to thank G-d each day for all of your blessings and to ask for health for your family and friends. Pray for the ill. Ask for guidance. Pray for peace. And finally, think about and write a plan as to what you can do to be a contributing member of Temple Beth Shalom Everyone has value and everyone can do something. As a “turn” on the words of President Kennedy, “Ask not what TBS can do for you ask what YOU can do for TBS” Finally, and I really mean this. If you need Some help, please feel free to call me.

Shalom! Ahava! and Zay geznut! Peter
