From the moment I arrived there was a tangible sense of anticipation and buzz amongst the delegates. This was a conference that was indeed set to redefine expectations.

Hello! We’re the Co-Founders of The Curious Piano Teachers, an online company that helps pi-ano teachers worldwide to question everything. Because asking the right questions and staying curious help piano teachers move from being Good Teachers to being Great Teachers.

We write a blog, host webinars, deliver online courses (including an accredited online teaching diploma course), have a brand-spanking-new You-Tube channel and, earlier this year, we hosted our first Curious LIVE conference events in the UK and Ireland.

Yet at the heart of what we do, we have a truly amazing, inspirational, supportive membership site for piano teachers worldwide called The Community. This entire brochure is dedicated to telling you more about The Community. So go and grab a coffee and lovely big slice of cake (at The Curious Piano Teachers we have a thing for cake!) and enjoy browsing.

Enrolment to The Community opens only 3 times a year. However, this particular enrolment is very special. Curious? You’ll find out more on page 27!

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you into The Community today!

ABOUT US...We both have active teaching studios in our respective parts of the world. Sharon lives in County Down, Northern Ireland where the beautiful Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the Irish Sea. Sally is based just down the road from the real Downton Abbey which is in Hampshire, England.

In the 3 years since we launched The Curious Piano Teachers, we’ve been delighted that 100’s of piano teachers, from around the world, have joined The Community.

We also love the fact that some of our own ‘heroes’ such as Professor Susan Hallam and William Westney have recognised the vibrancy and impact that the organisation is having on piano teaching.

Sharon achieved a Masters of Music with distinction in 2007.

She has 20 years of piano teaching experience and since 2012 has delivered Associate and

Licentiate teaching diploma courses with over 100 piano teachers successfully gaining

accredited piano teaching diplomas.

Sally was awarded a PhD from the Institute of Education, UCL in 2013.

She has many years of teaching experience, both as a piano teacher and as a classroom

music teacher. Sally is currently in great demand as a music education consultant, working with

ABRSM and The Voices Foundation.

I run a music school in Ireland.

Recently, the rest of my team became members too because the resources

were helping me achieve such fantastic results with my students.

These fabulous resources really take the guesswork

out of teaching

Yes, it’s all online - yet the member experience feels so real, direct and personal

… and I love the live webinars with the experts: seriously inspiring stuff!

I have been introduced to new teaching approaches that have really revolutionised my teaching - and

my students are hugely benefiting.

Rebecca (UK) | Member since 2015

Joining The Community is the single best thing I have done for

HERE’S HOW IT ALL WORKS...TREAT IT LIKE NETFLIX.For the first time ever, all new members (yup, Yearly AND Monthly members) get 100% access to the monthly ‘back’ bundles. We’ve done this because we know that you like choice. Not everyone who subscribes to Netflix will watch Suits, Person of Interest or Mad Men. What’s important is that YOU get to decide. This means that you have instant access to how-to videos, downloadable teaching resources and workbooks on a wide range of teaching issues. We’ve done the thinking, the hard work and summed it up in a nutshell - so that you get an instant, proven solution.

CURIOSITY BOXES.Every month you get a new bundle of teaching solutions (aka Curiosity Box). You get to connect with us, our team of experts and other piano teachers via the member-exclusive Facebook group and the LIVE monthly coaching session. You also get the opportunity to be buddied-up with another member, if you choose to participate in our monthly challenges. Such fun!

SUCCESS PATHWAYS.*COMING SOON!* As a result of our recent study, research and discussions at Curious HQ, we’re currently creating Success Pathways.Basically, you get to choose a ‘result’ that you’d love to get. Then you follow through a step-by-step Success Pathway that will guide you to achieving your chosen ‘result’.Maybe you’d love to have students who sight read confidently and fluently. Maybe you’d love to develop strong, positive working relationships with your piano parents. Maybe you’d simply love to become a better, more proficient musician yourself.

Whatever you wish for, we give you the solutions you need to turn it into a reality.

especially about its refreshing and highly effective use of the internet as a forum to build a purposeful community in which everyone can grow.

The workbook you produced after my interview on Performance Anxiety was so impressive to me.

I love the way you really dig into material. You don’t just let presentations drift by as a lot of pleasant talk, easily forgotten. Rather, you frame them as

ideas and techniques to grapple with, to consolidate, in a real way.

I’ve been telling so many of my colleagues about it...

The Curious Piano Teachers is truly an exciting venture

A BRILLIANT resource… it’s enabled me to pinpoint what I need to do so that students make continuous progress.

My confidence in teaching the higher grades has increased significantly.

LESSON PLANNINGPlan your students’ learning with

a clear progression and sense of

purpose using the 8 levels of The Piano Framework©

As a piano student I wasn’t taught aural skills - my teacher just tested me.

This step-by-step programme has, for the first time ever, actually taught me what I need to know.

Amy (UK) | Member since 2015

AURAL SKILLSIf you’ve ever doubted your own

aural skills,we’ve got a step-by-step programme that will significantly

help you and your students.

This tremendously inspiring toolkit enabled me to see the way forward with a student who was

going through a tough time.Having these strategies made the difference between losing and retaining this student who is now thriving.

Linda (Australia) | Member since 2016

PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGYA toolkit with happy solutions

for those difficult situations - whether it’s dealing with unrealistic

parents or awkward students.

Well, I can stop blaming students for not practising!Problem was I just never taught practising like THIS before -

and oh what a difference it makes :)Weeks before the last exam session, there was no mad rush either -

because students had been practising consistently.

Jane (UK) | Member since 2016

PRACTICE STRATEGIESUse this collection of proven

practice strategies to transform the

work that happens in the 10,050 minutes between weekly lessons.

For many years, technique was a very wooly area for me.Yet these amazing cut-and-dried ideas, from a team of amazing experts, have really helped me feel much more secure, both in my own playing and as a piano teacher.

And because I know how to tackle technical problems, my students are sounding like better musicians!

Patricia (UK) | Member since 2015

TECHNIQUEUse imaginative and meaningful

ways to present technique to piano

students of all levels.

I finally properly understand alphabet strings...and I love the very professional looking flashcards.

SIGHT READINGSimple, yet effective, strategies

to help your students enjoy

(yes enjoy!) sight reading.

The ideas here are paying the most phenomenal dividends within just a couple of lessons!

All I did was tweak a few things - and now my students are actively evaluating their own practising and playing.

BETTER QUESTIONS - BETTER RESULTS

Help your students think for

themselves by using our structured approach to asking better questions.

Without this bunch of incredible resources...enabling me to teach theory through the music that students are currently learning,

I wouldn’t have known where to start (never mind pull it off like a pro!)

TEACH THEORY MUSICALLYPractical resources to help you

teach theory so that students

make connections with the music

they’re playing.

I honestly never thought it was in me to deliver a lesson stuffed with creative ideas.

Yet - thanks to The Community - I now have students who are motivated to learn, and who are becoming better

musicians, because the way I present things is more purposeful and fun.

Feeling clear about what I’m doing - there are no words to describe just how good and deeply satisfying that feels.

Val (UK) | Member since 2015

Lessons were the same old thing, time and time again.

Before joining, I was a bit of a ‘banana on toast’ piano teacher.

NOW I’M MUCH MORE
