TRANSCRIPT
SPRING TERM 1, WEEK 2 Home Learning Pack
Task English Show your child the PowerPoint about Africa. As you are going through the
slides, talk to you child about the following: Where is Africa? Do they know any countries in Africa? Have they ever been to Africa? What do they think they might see in Africa? Do they know any interesting facts about Africa? Once you have gone through the slides ask your child to recall an interesting fact that they have learned about Africa from the PowerPoint, for example “The Sahara Desert stretches across 11 different countries.” Using the attached sheet, your child can write down their fact and draw a picture to go with the fact. Children could also label the picture they draw.
Show your child the cover of the book (see attachment) All Aboard For The Bobo Road and ask them: What do you think this book is about? Where do you think this book might be set and why? What do you think these people might see on their bus trip? Explain that the story is set in Africa and remind your child of all the different places and landmarks they saw on the Go Jetters PowerPoint they looked at on Monday. Your child will need to look at the attached sheet of landmarks and cut and stick the landmarks the bus might travel past on the way to the Bobo Road. Some of the landmarks on the sheet are not in Africa, so look carefully!
Look at the front cover of the book All Aboard For The BoBo Road again. Ask your child: What is the BoBo Road? Discuss with your child what they think the BoBo Road is? Is it a road just for buses? Is it a road with lots of animals along it? Does the road have parks and beaches along it? Is it an exceptionally long and twisting road? There is no wrong answer – the children can be as creative as they like!
Once they have decided what they think the BoBo road is, your child will need to draw a picture of the road and describe it, e.g. The road is long and bendy.
Explain to your child that today they are going to watch the story All Aboard For The Bobo Road. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-SlRrfYrYY After watching the story, see if your child can recall the places that the bus travelled through on the BoBo Road. Can they make a list of these places? How many can they remember? If your child is unable to write a list, they can draw the places the bus travelled through and write the initial sound next to the picture.
Look at the first page of the book (see attached), Big Ali says “All aboard for the BoBo Road. The most beautiful road in the world!” Think about all the wonderful places Big Ali drives his bus through along the BoBo Road. They are quite amazing and wonderful. Ask your child: Why do you think Big Ali thinks the road is the most BEAUTIFUL in the world? After you have discussed this with your child, ask them to write down their answer e.g. It is beautiful because he drives past a waterfall. Once they have written an answer down, they can draw a picture to match what they have written.

Today we are going to practise our reading skills. Look at the one word at the time. Say the sounds out loud, use your fingers when sounding out to count the sounds. Then blend the sounds together to make a word.
Please see the words attached. You can print them and cut out to use as flash cards to practice reading. Make sure you sound the words out. You can use fingers to count the sounds.
Maths This week we are exploring 3D shapes!
Look at the 3D shapes that have been flattened out. Can you number each face, 1, 2, 3…6 and then discuss the shape of each face. What is the same and what is different about a cube and a cuboid? Afterwards, have a go at making them and turning them into 3D shapes.
Look around your home for 3D packaging. These can be 3D shapes with flat faces, curved faces, and some with both. Label 3 hoops ‘roll’, ‘stack, and ‘both’ and write the name of the shapes in the correct hoop. You can also have a go at drawing them in!
Ask someone to hide a 3D shape behind their back. You will only get that shape back when you have described the shape with at least two of the following details: the number of faces or sides it has, the shape of the faces, or whether it rolls or stacks? The ‘hider’ can also give you clues to help you.
Look around your home for 3D shapes. Look at these two hoops. One has ‘Mostly rectangle faces’ and one has ‘some square faces’. Look at the faces of your 3D shape, for example a cuboid and count the squares faces and then count the rectangle faces, label or draw your cuboid in the correct hoop. If a shape had all square faces what would it be? What other 3D shape would have a rectangle or square face?
Look at everyday shapes and see if you can identify them by their 2D or 3D name correctly.
Physical Development
This week we are asking you to do some dancing and really get moving! See the links below for dances that you can do using Just Dance for Kids! Expressive Art and Design
We are going to do Junk Modelling. Over the week, collect any plastic bottles, boxes, anything you can use to make a bus. Once you have everything you need you can stick all the recycled pieces together that you have collected to make your bus. Once the glue has dried, paint your bus. You could also cut out pieces of paper to make windows and doors, or to add any other detail you want to add to your model. Please see the attached examples for inspiration.
Use a paper plate, tissue paper, colour paper glue and scissors to make your own paper plate cars. See the attached instructions to help you make your own car. If you do not have tissue paper to decorate your car, you can paint your car or decorate it with pencil or pen.
We are going to make another car, but this time out of a clothes peg. You will need a clothes peg, some colourful card, glue, a Sharpie Marker. Follow the instructions below to complete make your own clothes peg car.
Understanding of the World
Have you been on a bus before? Think about who you went on the bus with? Where did you go? What did the bus look like? Where did you sit on the bus? What did the other people take on the bus with them? If you go out for a walk with an adult and you see a bus, see if you can take a photo of it. We would love to see the pictures you take of the buses near you.
There are lots of different types of transportation. Some travel in the air, some on land and some in the sea. Have a look at the picture from the PowerPoint about different forms of Transportation. Look closely at where the transportation is, whether it is in the sky, on the land or in the sea. Look at the pictures on the attached worksheet and cut them out. Sort them onto the other sheet based on whether they are transportation that travels on the land, the sea or the air.
Communication and Language
Think about how technology helps us in our lives everyday. Compare the Technology that you see and use in school and to the technology you find at home. Draw and label the technology we might find in each room of our house.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
This week, we are going to have a second lesson about Democracy.
Watch the video to remind yourself what democracy means. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D97qKo42dz0

Paper Plate Cars Craft Supplies:
* Large Paper Plate * Favourite Coloured Tissue Paper * White/Black Cardstock * School Glue * Craft Scissors * Hand-Held Office Stapler
Directions:
* First cut your paper plate in half. This will give you TWO cars. * Now take your tissue paper and cut it into small squares {let the kids practice their cutting skills} * Take your paper plate halves and put a good amount of glue all over them. Have children place the tissue paper on top of the glue, until they are completely covered. * When they are done with that, set aside to let them dry completely while you trim out the other car features from your cardstock {think tires, windows, lights etc} * To finish off the Paper Plate Car kid craft – simply staple the finished cardstock pieces in their designated spots. Have children add other embellishments to really make it their own! Then display proudly!

Clothespin Cars Craft Supplies:
* Wooden Clothespins – one per clothespin car craft * Paint Pens {we love these} * School Glue * Kid Friendly Craft Scissors * Colorful Cardstock – any color you like! * Sharpie Markers * optional – glitter glue, rhinestones etc.
Directions:
* First paint your clothespin for a customized look! We personally love paint pens for this small task BUT you can get the real craft paint out and use small paint brushes. * When done painting, set aside to let it dry completely. * While those are drying, grab your cardstock and cut out some “car” features. Think wheels, the window etc. Use our pictures as an example. * Go ahead and use your Sharpie markers to draw in a character who is driving your car as well :-) * To finish off the Clothespin Cars craft, have children glue their cardstock pieces in place on the clothespin before playing and/or displaying proudly!!! * Don’t forget to share pictures with us on your social media sites! #gluedtomycrafts

Do you always feel that things are fair?
Think about something at home or in school that you might think it is not fair.
Do you always agree with your parents, siblings or your friends?
Do you always like to do the same things?
How can you solve the disputes in your family or between your friends?
Today we are going to vote. What does vote mean and how can we vote?
Vote means you choose what you like or agree with.
At home you can do it for example by raising your hand for things you like or agree
and then the votes are counted.
LET’S VOTE.
Vote for something at home i.e. what movie you are going to watch or what desert you
might have after lunch or what game you will play.
See the attached worksheet.
