SPRING ARTS FESTIVAL Truro Church is excited to host its second annual Spring Arts Festival as part of the City of Fairfax’s Spotlight on the Arts. The Arts Festival seeks to recognize God’s glory as revealed through the Arts and to encourage artists to express their sense of community. Artists of all faith traditions are encouraged to participate. Proceeds for the dinner theater go to support the Journey to Jerusalem pilgrimage. Festival Show The Festival Show is open to all artists and will be exhibited April 15th–May 8th, 2011. The Juried Show will feature pieces chosen from applications to the Festival Show, and will be exhibited for in the Truro Art Gallery. Cash Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and People’s Choice. Four Awards of Distinction will also be chosen. New This Year! KidZone Craft Corner—hands on activities—bracelets, origami, Easter baskets, percussion instruments, sock puppets, plus inflatables. Workshops for children Teen Scene—The Art Yard—a place to hang out, create art, drum Circle, chalk artist, graffiti wall, coffee bar. Children/Youth Juried Arts Show There will be categories for children and youth in the Juried Arts Show. Festival Judges/Jurors will award Best in Show for each of the Elementary, Middle, & Highschool levels, as well as a 2nd & 3rd place ribbon in each age group, and several Awards of Distinction. Best in Show prizes are as follows: Elementary$30 in Baskin Robbins (6) coupons & a small basket of art supplies. Middle School$75, High School—$150 The work submitted for the Youth Juried Arts Show will be displayed in the Truro Undercroft April 15th–17th 2011. Word By Heart On Saturday, April 16, Bruce Kuhn will offer his Word by Heart Training from 9 am–1 pm for those interested in learning more about drama and its contribution to worship. The first disciples saw the Gospel stories happen. They must have gripped their listeners: to have actually seen a withered hand become whole; to have heard every nuance of Jesus’ words. Can we recapture the power and reality of an eyewitness account? Find out during this special workshop with Bruce! Writer’s Workshop This two hour workshop, jointly taught by Mark Filiatreau, MFA Wichita State University, professor at Patrick Henry College, and Joe Gainer, instructional designer at CIA University, will give each participant the opportunity to compose the opening of a story or poem, and along the way, build an appreciation for the sounds of words and other elements of poetry and stories. Marketplace Pass the word, this is more than just a craft fair. Open to all artisans and craftsmen! The Spring Arts Festival Marketplace is an outdoor event that will take place on Saturday, April 16th from 10 am–5 pm. Glass artists, jewelry makers, sculpture artists, photographers, weavers, basket makers, paper artists and all other craftspeople—submit your entry today! Concert Stage Music ensembles, soloists, actors and dancers are welcome to apply to the Spring Arts Festival Outdoor rotating concert stage. Groups/Individuals will be selected for a half hour time slot on Saturday April 16th, 2011. The Spring Arts Festival Music Committee will jury the applicants. The entry fee will be waived for student music groups who submit an application. Battle of the Bands Calling all local bands! Truro’s second annual Spring Arts Festival is excited to announce the addition of Battle of the Bands! Bands with members in K-12th grade will be competing for a $200 cash prize. APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING ARTS FESTIVAL ENTRIES!In conjunction with the City of Fairfax’s Spotlight on the Arts, Truro Church of Fairfax will be hosting its Second Annual Spring Arts Festival April 15–17, 2011. Events will kick off Friday evening with Broadway actor Bruce Kuhn performing “Cotton Patch Gospel” as a Dinner Theatre. Saturday will include a marketplace of crafts from area artists, a juried art show, outdoor concert stage, Battle of the Bands, a Writer’s Workshop, food court and a variety of family activities for all ages.
