Courtyard Masterpiece Unveiled!

If you’ve been through our courtyard recently you might have noticed some improvements. We are thrilled to unveil the gorgeous new mural by renowned local artist Jan Dick. Jan is our artist- in-residence who teaches the Studio 14 acrylics art group. With contributions by Felicity, Monika and Yvonne, who are members of the Stu-dio 14 art group, Jan has brightened the courtyard with one of the stunning seascapes for which she is so justly celebrated. The Torquay Men’s shed will be building a frame to complete the mural.

This tops-off the renovation of our courtyard area, which was recently beautifully painted by the Womens Sharing Shed Torquay. The generous donation of an outdoor setting by Torquay Community Enterprise and an outdoor heater from Bunnings have also made a big difference. It is now a tranquil and beautiful area for everyone who visits the house to use

and it has been enjoyed by community groups like the Community Kitchen group, Young Wolves and Farmgate Foods. Now that the weather is warm-ing up it is the perfect time to come and see Jan’s stunning mural and enjoy a cuppa in the courtyard.

Was that the fastest term in the universe? I had to double check that we really were entering term four!!

In term three our fabulous Chairperson, Pamela Brewin resigned, as did our Treasurer Peter Blair. Pamela was an amazing ambassador for the Community House and single-handedly managed to bring over $11,000 in donations from generous community members for computer upgrades. Pamela was also instrumental in starting up our Painting with Parkinson programme and was an original committee member for the Surf Coast U3A. Her contribution to the Community House and broader community will not be forgotten and we wholeheartedly thank her for her efforts. I would like to also thank Peter Blair for his time and efforts with our finances.

As we thank and bid farewell to two, we also thank and welcome two new Board members and their timing couldn’t be better. Welcome to the board Kate Marshall from All Aboard and Cheryl Baluch from Museums without Walls!

Another chapter begins and so does another term and we have some great workshops and dare I say some Christmas activities and even one about how to cope with the silly season.

Community Houses are important to many people for many different reasons, and the most common is the sense of acceptance and belonging that is so important to us all.

Read through this fabulous edition of Springboard, it’s full of community information. You might just find somewhere to belong and participate.

Yoga for KidsSpring Creek is delighted to offer a new addition to our low-cost Morning Activity Program for kids this term ‘Yoga for Kids’. This fun and engaging class with tutor Dianne Bones offers fast and active play while warming up to and play-ing with Yoga poses. It also offers children time to relax and have fun whilst developing strength, coordination, flexibility, balance, concentration, body awareness and self-es-teem. This class also combines learning through songs, dance, games and story-telling.

Yoga for Kids is offered Term Tuesdays 11.30am-12pm starting October 10th ($3 per child).

Get Ready for SummerKeep your family safe at the beach this summer with the 24/7 Legend Program. Learn about water safety and survival skills that can save the life of someone close to you. Understand the dangers on our local beaches such as how to identify rips and how to survive if you are caught in one, learn about different types of rescues and what to do in case of envenomation (jelly fish, sting rays, snakes, etc).

This workshop will also cover basic CPR skills such as the primary survey (DRSABCD), patient assessment, defibrillation awareness and handing over to emergency services. Ideal for parents, grandparents and children (minimum age 10) and anyone interested in staying safe around water. Make next summer your safest!

Sewing for Home DecoratingGet creative and spruce up your bedroom décor with a new doona cover set made from recycled or new fabric with tutor Maz Clark. Add some handmade throw cush-ion covers to complete the look. Maz will show you how to make it happen, including planning the project and choosing your materials. BYO fabric or head to the Op Shops, you will be amazed at what you might find there.

Resume Rescue for MothersMichelle is here to rescue your Resume again! During this practical work shop you will learn relevant tips about real world case studies that will prepare you to write a successful resume. We will teach you step by step how to plan out your resume. The Painting with Parkinson’s art therapy group at Spring Creek Community House has been running since 2015. Although it specifies Parkinson’s Disease in the title, the group welcomes anyone who is living with an acquired brain injury, mental disability or has fine motor skill challenges.

Mike Atkinson, who is Australia’s ambassador for the World Parkinson’s Congress 2017, has been coming since the group began and appreciates many aspects of the weekly sessions. ‘It’s the socialisation, exercising the brain and it’s just nothing that I’d ever had a concept of ever being involved in (before).

I’ve met some nice people too which is also good therapy.’

Martina discovered PWP through Spring-board and has been coming for a few months. She was looking for something for a friend, recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s knowing she was requiring support, relaxation and something to assist in stress management. Martina had suffered an anaphylactic shock in 2014 and realised that she was also welcome to join the group’s services and she hasn’t looked back. ‘It’s changed my life. It’s just lovely. I let go and express myself. It’s fun.’

Jim Charlton enjoys the painting and the people. ‘I resisted coming for two years because I am colour-blind. I never knew that I could paint before coming here. Even at school I can’t remember doing anything that would inspire me to keep coming.’ Jim has uncovered his natural artistic talent and now looks forward to the class every week. He has even set up his own art studio space at home.

Liz is the newest member of the group and says ‘it’s the highlight of my week. My life revolves around this group. I would never let anything else come into place of it.’ At the Surf Coast Arts Trail Exhibition a few weeks ago Liz was ‘thrilled to bits’ to have sold her first piece of artwork ever created (in her life) during her first PWP sessions. Painting With Parkinson’s art therapist, Janelle Da Silva says ‘our work was on display to celebrate the group’s involvement in the artmaking process. No-one’s work was for sale, however someone asked me how much Liz’s picture was and after negotiations, her work was sold!’

Janelle is inspired by what is achieved in the PWP’s sessions because people are constantly breaking out of their comfort

zones, attempting new things and are willing to do their best regardless of what’s going in their lives. ‘There’s no mistakes in our class, just fun!’

St Vincent De Paul Entering its 6th Year in TorquayTime has flown since St Vincent De Paul established a Conference (branch) here in Torquay in February 2012. The current membership of 15 are all volunteers. We cover the needs in Torquay, Jan Juc, Bells Beach, Bellbrae, Armstrong Creek and Anglesea.

Our aim is to help people who find themselves in need of assistance whether it be with food, rent, utilities or other expenses. Everyone needs a hand up at some stage so there is no embarrassment to ask. Our motto is to provide “a hand up, not a hand out” for those in a crisis situation.

Referrals to other community support services such as budgeting, legal advice and advocacy issues are also available.Vouchers are available for those needing clothing (including baby clothes), shoes, manchester and some small furniture items. These can be supplied from any Vinnies Store. A new store in Marshalltown Rd Grovedale has recently opened.

Some have found school books unaffordable with times being difficult financially and we have been able to help out, whilst other have had difficulty with medicine/prescriptions payments. Assistance will be given without istinction of race, creed or political persuasion and is offered in a caring manner where privacy and confidentiality are always respected.

Over the past 12 months approximately $20,000 has been handed out locally to some 80 families.

Funding is sourced from private donations, a yearly Winter Appeal, Vinnies shops and in recent times grants from Torquay Community Enterprise. No Government assistance is given.

Recently Torquay Conference was asked to service the new housing estates of Armstrong Creek.

If in need of emergency assistance please phone the Geelong Welfare Office on 5221 9170 Mon-Fri between 9am-12pm. They will contact local volunteers to arrange a visit as soon as possible.

The Summer Holiday Program is back!With Prep just around the corner for many children, it’s a great time to start preparing your child for what lies ahead. It’s an exciting time, but there can be plenty of nerves asso-ciated with taking such a big step. At Road to Reading, children have an opportunity to work in a fun class-room environment and see what goes on at ‘big school’. The teachers also have a chance to observe your child as a learner and offer you valu-able feedback.

The sessions at Road to Reading simulate a classroom environment where children explore letter and sound relationships, learn sight words and become familiar with reading concepts. Oral language, speech articulation and developing fine motor skills are also major com-ponents of the sessions. It is advan-tageous to be proactive and prepare young minds for what’s to come.

Weekly classes are held in Torquay (MON/WED) and in Grovedale (TUE/THU/FRI). We cater for 2 – 6 year olds and the first session is FREE! Call to arrange a free class. In addition to our weekly classes we’re also running our Summer Holiday Program again – this is very popular so get in quick.

Book Review: The Lost Swimmer By Ann TurnerWhen archaeology professor Rebecca Wildling is accused of fraud she travels to Europe with her husband Stephen to uncover the conspiracy against her. But on the idyllic Amalfi Coast, Stephen disap-pears.

This novel starts off on our own Surf Coast and what follows is a fast-paced journey through Italy, Greece and France. The writing is cinematic and engaging and will leave you feeling like you are lying on a sun-drenched Mediterranean beach. If you enjoy books by James Patterson or Lian Hearn then you’ll enjoy this one.

LOCALS SUPPORTING REFUGEES

Members of SCRAR, Grandmothers Against Detention of Refugee Children & M.O.T.H.E.R.S unite at St Luke’s

Grandmothers was started in 2014 by a small group of grandmothers in inner city Melbourne who were extremely concerned over the Government’s treatment of refugee and asylum seekers, and in particular their treatment of the children on Nauru.

After an initial rally on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in early September 2014, the Grandmothers have established branches in nearly every electorate in Victoria and has even spread to other States.

The Grandmothers use all possible methods to get their message to the Government Opposition, Cross Benchers and Senators - letters, emails, visits, vigils, rallies, trips to

Canberra and were particularly active leading up to last year’s Federal Election. Each elec-torate group organises their own activities to advocate for the release of the children from Nauru.

In December 2016, the Grandmothers donat-ed hundreds of backpacks full of gifts to the children on Nauru, as a way of showing our support and concern for their welfare.The fight continues.

M.O.T.H.E.R.S 4 MothersTORQUAY refugee support group M.O.T.H.E.R.S (Mothers Offering Time, Help, Engagement, Refugee Support) is co-ordinat-ing a playgroup for isolated refugee mothers from the wider Geelong region.

The playgroup will offer respite and social opportunities for refugee families, with child-care provided by volunteers from M.O.T.H.E.R.S, Surf Coast Rural Australians for Refugees (SCRAR) and Grandmothers Against the Detention of Refugee Children.

The monthly playgroup, modelled on St Luke’s Anglican Church Torquay’s successful Take a Breath Playgroup, will be held in part-nership with Spring Creek Community House. M.O.T.H.E.R.S co-founders Mary Rose Avent and Laura Connor said the group had

identified the need for a support network for recently arrived women at risk (visa subclass 204 – for women who do not have the pro-tection of a male relative and are in danger of victimisation, harassment or serious abuse because of their gender).

“We are creating a space where families and children can connect, play and join in a con-versation with isolated refugee mothers;

sharing in cultural exchange and activities in a supportive environment” Mary Rose said.

The first playgroup will be Thursday 14 Sep-tember at Rosewall Neighbourhood Centre in Corio, close to many refugee families, with plans for bus trips to Torquay, beach excur-sions and a playgroup hosted by St Luke’s on Thursday, September 28th.

‘The main aim is ... awareness [of] the need for support for isolated women at risk in the refugee community,” Mary Rose explained. “We hope to gain more volunteers and sup-port, through financial, clothing or household donations, one-on-one support, tutoring or just a friendly face to enjoy a cuppa and a chat.’

Since its inception in May 2017, M.O.T.H.E.R.S volunteers have arranged for the purchase and/or donation of warm clothing, shoes, beds, mattresses and linen for refugee families in need in the local Geelong region.

The death of Hamed Shamshiripour on Manus Island in August, whether due to the deterioration of his mental health caused by indefinite detention, or due to an assault by local people, is the latest in a long line of tragedies offshore which continues to energise SCRAR members to action. The im-minent closure of the Manus Island Detention centre and the uncertain future of the men there has caused further concern and a number of vigils are planned to draw attention to the situation of these men. The imminent deadline of October 1st for all people seeking asylum to lodge their applications highlights the work of ‘The Seeking Refugee Project’, at the Barwon Community Legal Service, which is able to assist people in Geelong and the Western Suburbs of Melbourne to submit their applications free of charge. M.O.T.H.E.R.S (Mothers Offering Time, Help, Engagement, Refugee Support) is co-or-dinating a playgroup for isolated refugee mothers from the wider Geelong region and we are excited to be providing assistance. Our volunteers, along with volunteers from

M.O.T.H.E.R.S and Grandmothers Against the Detention of Refugee Children will provide childcare to allow respite and social opportunities for local refugee families. The Heart of the TownCHRIS BARR

The first land sales for the little township of Spring Creek were held in Bannisters Auction Mart in Geelong on September 14th, 1886. One of the early land buyers was James Follet. James must have a plan in mind, as, in 1888 he opened the Pioneer Coffee House in Bell Street opposite the camping ground. This would later become the Palace Hotel famous for warming the survivors of the wreck of the Scammell a few years later.

The Hotel was for a time the heart of the town. It was the destination for the Cobb and Co coaches bringing visitors for a stay at the beach, and importantly, the weekly mail. The newly formed Spring Creek Im-provement Association began work on the hall only a block away in Price Street. It is natural then that some of the first houses in

Torquay were built close to the Hotel.

A stroll down Parker Street (behind the pub) will lead you to one of my favourite original Torquay houses a charming little cottage called “The Kipsey”.

James Gear and his brother William, from Ballarat, started work on a seaside home in the early 1900’s. They were the sons of William and Kezia Gear, early settlers from Devon, who travelled to Australia with six children in the 1860’s. During the building the family travelled down by horse and dray, camping on the land while they worked on the house. They would bring up rocks from the beach, which they then rendered. John Gear and his wife Sarah took over the ownership of the house, which was ready for the family in 1909. The little house had three

tiny bedrooms, a kitchen and an outdoor bathroom. A rear veranda was closed in with a metal trellis, and it was out there that the family would gather to eat and play cards and bathe in a large metal tub. The family also had a bathing box on the front beach also called “The Kipsey”.

The metal trellis served the house well in 1940 when the fires came through as it offered good resistance to the flames that lapped up at it and burned down the neighbour’s house only metres away. In fact, when the family arrived to see the fire damage in March of 1940 they were amazed to find “Kipsey“ was the only house left standing in the street.

In 1965 descendants of James and Sarah Gear decided to sell the house and this end-ed a sixty-year ownership and connection with the town. The family have a lifetime of memories of their early Torquay days.

Today “The Kipsey” has a high front fence but often on my walks the gates are open, and I can see the beautiful stained-glass window engraved with the name above the door. Kipsey is an old English word for a “place to sleep or shelter.” It seems a perfect name for the little house that has stood with a calm dignity tucked away in Parker Street for over 100 years.

Building A Future: Mental Health WorkshopsIf you or someone you care for is living with mental health issues then a free workshop coming up at the community house could be the first step to a brighter future. The Building a Future (BAF) Snapshot is a two-session workshop that discusses the complexities of mental health and coping strategies when things go off kilter. These strategies are discussed within the context of recovery and how it relates to mental illness; this includes good self-management, setting achievable goals, participation in meaningful activity and aiming for positive relationships. Taking and celebrating small steps towards improvement can replace “doom and gloom” with hope and joy.

The strength of the BAF program is that it is peer led and facilitated by someone with first-hand experience navigating the mental health system and the challenges of assisting a loved one with mental illness. The concept of recovery and connecting with others in a supportive environment lightens the learning and emphasises hope in adversity. The program is offered by Wellways Australia and is tailored to suit partic-ipants in each workshop. It is designed to be interactive with opportunity for shared thoughts and experiences.

The two sessions look at various diagnoses and include an understanding of current mental health treatments and factors which can make a person vulnerable to developing a mental illness

Mental Health Week 2017: October 8th-14thICE education program to be held in Torquay in OctoberBreakThrough: ICE education for families at Spring Creek Community House on Thursday 19th and Thurs-day 26th October @ 6.30-8.30pm.

Breakthrough: ICE education for families covers key issues about ice, its effects on the brain and body, the relationship between drug use and mental health, strategies for deal-ing with the ice user and access to support and resources. Community members and families will be able to access information and resources at Spring Creek Community House across two nights on the 10th and 26th of Octo-ber, from 6.30-8.30pm.

The joint initiative between Turning Point, Self Help Addiction Resource Centre (SHARC) and the Bouverie Centre has delivered over 140 workshops state-wide since the program began in late 2015.

Turning Point Director Professor Dan Lubman said the program is an excellent opportunity for three major state-wide services to work together to reduce the harms associated with ice use.

‘This program aims to provide an insight into what ice is, how it affects people and how to support family members into treatment,” Professor Lubman said. “We will also provide people with practical approaches in caring for themselves and other family members.’

The program is equally suitable for both interested community members and families who are directly impacted by a loved one’s ice use.

Life Activities Club Surfcoast Turns 15!Did you know that the wonderful Life Activities Club Surf-coast inc. has been going strong for 15 years? The club be-gan with the goal of promoting physical activity and social connection for people over 40. It was based on other Life Activities Clubs in Geelong, Bendigo and Melbourne and started as a partnership between local health practitioners, the Surf Coast Shire, Leisure Networks, Barwon Health, Spring Creek Community House and members of the Surf Coast community.

Since its initial launch in March 2002 the club has been incredibly successful, attracting over 100 members in the first three months, it has continued to grow and is now a fully incorporated entity in its own right. Over the years the L.A.C has developed activity groups for a wide range of in-terests from tennis to theatre and art gallery trips; a group has even travelled to the Great Wall of China together! Bellbrae Cemeteryby Lorraine Marshall, Secretary of the Torquay & District Historical Society and recently appointed a Trustee of the Bellbrae Cemetery Trust.

Bellbrae Cemetery was established in 1854 by the first pioneers of the Bellbrae area. It is the final resting place of people such as Joseph Gundry, first owner of Iron Bark Station and Llanberis house in 1861 and who established the first Bellbrae School attached to his first house on Spring Creek, in 1857, and the new National School (today Bellbrae Primary School) in 1861. Others also buried at Bellbrae include members of the Bubb Family, wood-cut-ters, carters and owners of the Saw Mill on Angelsea Road; George and Susan Cunningham, who ran the post office; Edmond Duffield; William and Arthur Simmons; and John Goodall.

Some of our surfing greats are also buried at Bellbrae including Vic Tantau, Geoff Emerson, Maurie Raynor, Owen Yateman and John and Wilma Pettigrove.

Picturesque, idyllic, serene, all words that describe this wonderful local cemetery, home to 500 of our past

residents. Bellbrae Cemetery has been managed by the Bellbrae Cemetery Trust for over 150 years, it is one of the few independent cemeteries left.

The population in the Surf Coast is increasing, the number of Trustees is dwindling due to natural attrition and the cemetery is in danger of running out of space space in just a few years. In order to ensure future grave sites will be available, and to undertake the necessary expansion of the cemetery, decisions must be made to accommodate that expansion. The Trust is seeking to appoint three trustees to take up the challenge to ensure our wonderful, unspoilt cemetery remains simply that, while acknowledging the challenges ahead for the Trust can be met and solved. If you believe that you can offer the Trust what it needs, then the Trust needs you.

Today’s Scout’s 1st Torquay Scout Group, at Spring Creek Reserve, is the place to

look if you’re interested in adventure and learning life skills. Our group is growing and always welcomes adults, boys and girls aged from 6 up, to get involved and join one of our sections: Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, or the Scout Section. Youth members develop leadership skills in small groups, challenge them-selves with outdoor activities, and learn about local and global issues in a fun way. The scouting program helps kids develop resilience, self-reliance, initiative, responsibility and become valuable members of their community. At the Club Change-over on Sunday 2nd July 2017 Gaynor Schols was inducted by Past President Lesley Shedden as

President for the 2017-18 year, with its theme this year “Rotary – Making a difference” 2016 – 2017 has been a

most successful year for the Rotary Club of Torquay.

We have completed or been in-volved in more than 16 planned projects and programmes, raised over $45,000 to allow us to contin-ue doing good in the world, and had hands-on involvement in our local community in numerous ways. Certainly, Rotary Serving Humanity in action!!

There have been many highlights, not least the installation and unveil-ing of our four fitness stations on the Torquay foreshore and the Annual Motor Show. A very successful Book Fair, Ride the Bellarine, ANZAC Day, Hat Day with Belmont RC, support for Interplast, ROMAC, Australian Ro-tary Health Foundation and water fil-ters for the Awake and Shine school in India. Youth activities with encour-agement awards to students in local schools, Rotary Youth Leadership weekends. We have celebrated the Centenary of the Rotary Foundation and we are so very close to the erad-ication of Polio.

Lions Clubs Support Shire’s Youth Assistance Plan

The Torquay Lions Club and other Lions Clubs on the Surf Coast Shire are helping the region’s young people in a practical way.

A Youth Pod, a Surf Coast Shire Youth Development Team initiative, will be funded by Council with the support of Lions Clubs.

The Lions Clubs have donated $8000 towards the project.

The pod is in response to the 2016 Surf Coast Shire Council Youth Survey, which identified the health and well-being of young people as a key issue.

The youth–oriented pod will visit towns in the Shire, and feature at events. It will also be used for young people who require support in the event of an emergency.

‘Working with the Shire to offer improved health and well-being ser-vices to the Shire’s young people, help us achieve our objective of assisting youth,’ said Torquay Lions President Tricia Blane. ‘When we asked Council for some projects we might work with them on, it was natural we would be attracted to the mobile youth unit,’ Tricia said.

‘Youth are our future and the future of our nation. If we can assist them in their own development – both in good times and not so good – then we need to be at the forefront.’

TTT is currently presenting its winter season one act play, The Eulogy, an Australian play written by John Cun-hill, set in Queensland and featuring Maryanne Doolan and Lachie Errey. The play is being performed at three Torquay venues before being taken to Anglesea for the One Act Play Festival at the end of August.

It will be presented again on October 11 at the Surf Coast Hotel, Wyndham Resort as part of a dinner theatre event during Mental Health Week. Tickets for this event will be available at www.trybooking.com from the beginning of September.

Rehearsals are about to commence for the November production of David Williamson’s contemporary comedy/drama, When Dad Married Fury, directed by Michael Baker and introducing several new actors to the stage at 16 Price Street. This is one of Williamson’s lesser known plays, but it glistens with the same sparkling satire we have come to expect from this prolific Australian playwright.

The play will open on Monday 6th November at 8pm, with performances 9th – 11th and 16th – 18th November at 8 pm and a Sunday matinee at 2pm on November 12th.

The Torquay Community Men’s Shed Inc. is open to local men from all walks of life to encourage friendship, sup-port, good fellowship and promote health and wellbeing. We’re an Incor-porated, not for profit organisation at 18 Price St. Torquay, behind the Old Police Station (TOPS). Some members are creative in the workshops, many just come to sit, drink tea/coffee, eat cake and biscuits and talk around the “Table of Knowledge”! It’s all part of the process of getting together, meeting new people and generally relaxing in a male friendly, alcohol-free space!

Apart from woodwork, we now have a metal work shed with a metal screw-cutting lathe, gas, arc and MIG welding plants, sheet metal folder/guillotine and other metal working equipment.

We meet several times a week:• Mondays 1:30pm -3pm is our ‘Singing in the Shed’ group who say they feel fantastic after exercising their lungs. Don’t worry about talent– these guys can break glass but they do have fun. They’re even getting gigs in town, come along and join in!• Tuesdays & Wednesdays are reg-ular Shed days, 9:30am-12:30pm, kick back to relax or get stuck into a project in the workshops. On the last Wednesday of the month is a sausage sizzle, all for the same daily fee of $2!• Our Cooking Group, meets on the 1st & 3rd Friday of the month at Torquay College to create some fantastic food! It’s all good fun and provides some food to eat and skills to learn.• We go to the movies once a month at Waterland and then the Moriac Hotel for lunch. The movie is a subsidised fee of $5 and the lunch is on you.

Term 3 for U3A SurfCoast burst into life, energised by a new brochure and an updated website (u3asurfcoast.org.au). The website now boasts clearer navigation and new photos of our activities. The Home page has a ‘notice board’ and ‘stories’ section and is linked to a Twitter feed. The whole site is now more user-friendly.

Winter term is often quieter but regu-lar classes continued and new classes such as ’Beginners iPad for seniors’ and ‘Non-fiction Readers’ began. The latter class discussed non-fiction books related to a theme, the first meeting’s theme was ‘Books that have influenced me.’

We have also had an influx of new volunteers to staff our regular office times at Spring Creek House (Wed. & Fri. mornings from 10am - 12.)

Occasional Lectures continued with our July lecture given by Deakin Dr of Philosophy, Bart Ziino on the topic ‘A Distant Grief’, the story of attempts to deal with the loss of Australian soldiers in WW1. The August lecture in Anglesea was given by Karl Jacklin looking at the security issues that can impact on home computer users.

U3A SurfCoast was also involved with the SurfCoast Arts Trail this year, with both ‘Drawing Skills’ and ‘Sogetsu Ikebana’ classes exhibiting over the August weekend. The Creative Writ-ing class also contributed to ‘Words from the Surf Coast Arts Trail’ at the Surf Coast Arts Space in Anglesea on August 31st.

Danawa Community Garden is nestled in the Spring Creek Reserve, adjoining the tennis courts. We meet regularly for Pick ‘n’ Plant afternoons, 2 to 4 pm on the second Saturday and fourth Sunday of the month, and also on Saturday mornings.

There’s a sharing shed, offering shelter and a great place to prepare meals, or to lay out the harvest, with a kitchenette and pizza oven.
