Monthly Report of Innovishkaar: Atal Tinkering Laboratory For

October 2019

Programming of Robby Robot:

A workshop was conducted for Std VI E Group-II, VI C Group-I, VI A Group-II,

VI B Group-I, VI C Group-I, VI D Group-I and VI E Group-I on introduction to

Robby E-series robot. In this session the programming concepts were explained

like forward, backward movement, left and right turn of Robby robot. The Robo

G3 programming workspace was made familiar to the students. Purpose of each

option of the workspace like file and tools were explained. The use of each block

was enlightened in detail like control block, time taken in milliseconds, motor

block, start block and stop block. Students were asked to make program to

rotate the robot. They made programs to move Robby robot on arena and make

L-pattern, U-pattern, Z-pattern and square. They also made program to blink

red and green LED of Robby robot.

Mechanical Workshop to make Soccer Robot:

Conducted a workshop for Std VII A Group-I, VIII A Group-II, VII E Group-I,

VIII B Group-I, VII B Group-II, VIII E Group-I, VII D Group-I, VIII C Group-

II,VII C Group-II and VIII B Group-II on making a remote control soccer robot.

They were given E-Series mechanical kit along with tools like spanner,

screwdriver and allen key. Students made remote control car by fixing the

metallic plates with screwdriver and allen key. They were taught use of fillers,

metallic stoppers and various other components of the kits. The concept of

using gears as driven and driven gear was explained to them. They made soccer

robot and tested it with a ball.

Light Dependent Resistor LDR Module:

Students of Std VII D Group-II, VII C Group-II, VII A Group-II, VII B Group-I,

VII C Group-I, VIII E Group-I and VII A Group-I made connections on LDR

module using Arduino Uno. Basics of Arduino Uno was discussed in the

workshop. The projects that can be made using Arduino Uno and various

sensors were explained to them. The working of Light Dependent Resistor

(LDR) module was explained to them. The change of resistance with respect to

light was shown in the project.

3-D Designing course for Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya – a Government

School:

Students of Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya attended the workshop on 3D designing. In

this workshop the steps involved in 3D designing were discussed. Students

were explained the basic difference between 2D and 3D printer by showing

them the working of both the printers. The stages of 3D printing include

designing, slicing and printing. All these steps were explained with example.

Students were introduced with basic features of designing workspace like

uniform scaling, non –uniform scaling and moving. They made keychain on

their own with their names on it. They were shown printing of keychain on 3 D

printer.

NTSE Training:

Dr. Lele conducted NTSE training for Std X students. In this workshop logical

and reasoning questions were discussed. The motive of this workshop was to

ignite the thinking process in students by discussing questions related to real

life scenarios like blood relation etc.

Hands on Activities based on Optics:

Mrs. Pragya Nopani, a National Physics Teacher awardee conducted a workshop

for Std XII based on Hands on activities – Ray and Wave Optics.

The session was very interesting, enthusiastic and interacting. Students

enjoyed to learn new concepts based on reflection and refraction such as

converging is not stopping of a ray but it continues and becomes diverging after

meeting at the focal point, for virtual object using concave mirrors, how to see

real image, how the reflection can happen differently from plane surface and

concave and convex surfaces.

Students saw the total Internal reflection using right angled prism and

understood how the total internal reflection is different from normal reflection.

The session was very fruitful to make the concepts clear and enjoy the beauty

of Optics. Each and every one was excited about the concepts they learnt.

CBSE – IBM AI Enabled SEWA Programme for Students:

Students from Std XI attended the two days session on Artificial Intelligence

by Mr. Saffin Mathew from the company IBM associated with CBSE for SEWWA

Programme. During the session, the resource person introduced the concept of

artificial intelligence (AI) and how it is getting used in daily life. Numerous

videos were showcased to understand the concept of how computer can

recognise the object placed in front of it. Considering few projects, students

were made familiar with the concept of ideation and designing. They were given

time to think on the project on which they want to work on. How to decide good

and bad points about it, how to develop the project and how to design it was

taught to them on the first day. On the second day, each group was asked to

explain their project and how they are going to proceed for the same. Students

took keen interest in it and very good projects were developed by them such

as solving air pollution in Delhi, Helping differently abled persons, zero hunger

area, early detection of cancer, artificial limb and so on. The students were

asked to take two days time and submit the ideation form. Based on the

development of the projects IBM – CBSE may select the projects for whom their

team will train and supervise.

Workshop on Ideation and Designing of projects:

A workshop was conducted for Std VIII D Group-II on “Ideation and Critical

Thinking”. The aim of this workshop was to promote thinking process in

students with the help of real-life examples. In this workshop all Diwali related

projects were discussed, and they were asked to make designs for Diwali

decoration by making paintings, LED blinking, making of paper lanterns and

lampshades.

Lab Exhibition:

Various innovative projects were displayed in the lab and elucidated by the

students of Std VII during the exhibition. Working of smart dustbin was

explicated by the students. Need of smart farming where the use of solar panel,

drip irrigation, use of PIR sensor, soil moisture sensor, concept of conversion

of urine to electricity, compost manure, solar pump etc was explicated with the

help of project. Use of infra-red sensor was shown in the form of edge avoider.

Gaming project was also displayed named Archery Robot that demonstrated a

perfect example of projectile motion. The use of pulley to carry the objects from

one place to another was demonstrated. The use of Alcohol detector was

displayed promoting the use of it to identify drinking and driving cases to avoid

accidents. These projects were displayed to the teachers from other schools

and dignitaries vising the Innovishkaar Lab.

Rugged Terrain Robot:

Students of Std XI and XII made a rugged terrain robot using wooden planks,

motors and E Series kit. They made a robot that can move on every surface

and that was having a camera to take images of different areas.

Astronomy Workshop:

Astronomy workshop was conducted for students from Germany who were with

us during our exchange program. In this workshop, types of natural and

artificial satellites were explained to them. They discussed the concept behind

launching a rocket. The students performed various activities related to it to

implement the observations.

Introduction of E-Series X Brain and LED blinking:

Students of Std VIII A Group-I, VIII D Group-I and VIII E Group-I made a

circuit on E-Series X Brain. The difference between E-Series Lite brain, E-Series

Full brain and E-Series X Brain was discussed with the students. They made

connections on the breadboard of E-Series X Brain. They were asked to make

the connections on a breadboard. The programming workspace named Robo

G3 to make programs for X Brain was explained to them. The purpose of

compiling and uploading the program was explained to them. They made

programs on the Robo G3 workspace to blink LED light for a period of time by

using delay function. They made a program to glow LED and also to blink LED

in different pattern.

Workshop on Internet of Things:

Mr. Devansh Ahuja conducted a workshop for students from Japan. In this

workshop they explained the concept of internet of things by showing them

videos of different real-life projects. It was explained to them how the invention

of internet of things has made our life easier. In the beginning one of the

students was asked to turn OFF the lights which was later done just by giving

the command to the google. The session concluded by doing hands on activities

of blinking LED lights in a pattern using potentiometer made by simple graphite

pencil.

Workshop on Snap Circuit:

Students of Std VI A Group-II attended a workshop on Snap circuit. In this

workshop students were taught circuit connections on snap circuit. They were

explained difference between breadboard and printed circuit board. Use and

working of various components of the kit was explained like- space war

integrated circuit, music integrated circuit, whistle chip, resistors, speakers,

fans, battery, motors and alarm integrated circuit. They were explained

purpose of using resistors. Students made a circuit to move fan and blink LED.

Circuit was made to turn on the music and play different musical sounds.

Robots for IRC Competition:

Students of Std VIII and IX are making robots for IRC competition whose theme

Olympics. They are making robots that can be controlled by a remote. The

robots can overcome the hurdles on their way and can complete the desired

tasks by moving on specific arena.

Avishkaar Makeathon Competition:

Students of Std VIII are making projects for Avishkaar Makeathon competition.

The theme of the project is “Water Crisis”. They are making a real life project

using sensor module to purify the water. The mobile app will be developed to

keep a track on the amount of water used by families. Students are working on

turbidity sensor to detect impurities present in the water. They will be using

activated charcoal to purify the water.

Automatic Street light system:

Student of Std XII made a project on automatic street-light. In this project light

dependent resistor i.e. photo resistor was used. The resistance of the sensor

varies with the varying intensity of light. The LED turns on during the night and

turns off during the presence of light.
