As part of a drive towards increasing sustainability in our communities and contributing to a greener environment, Emaar Community Management (ECM) introduced a massive recycling programme across Emirates Living communities.

The campaign encompassed 9,000 villas in The Meadows, The Springs, The Lakes & Hattan and Emirates Hills and included the following:

• A 140L bin that was placed next to the regular outdoor garbage bin.• A smaller 15L indoor bin, to be placed preferably under the kitchen sink, to make it easier to collect recycled waste and transfer it to the outdoor bin.• A one-page guide with tips on recycling.

The recycling programme is proving to be a massive success with all residents. With statistics received from the service provider confirming a significant increase in recyclable materials collected every week.

The Emirates Living Market Day held on 25 November was the second edition for 2016 and bigger and better than the first, with over 170 tables booked. Besides the vendors, the event featured loads of entertainment options for the young ones, ranging from games and bouncy castles to an arts & crafts section which included face painting and sand art. This was complemented by a wide selection of food choices to suit every taste.

One of the highlights of the event was a talent contest, which saw mini popstars singing away and young dancers showing off their moves, keeping onlookers entertained and in awe of their talent.

To ensure the efficiency of mechanical equipment across the community, we closely monitor all of them in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. With this in mind, we have recently replaced a number of mechanical parts within the swimming pool plant rooms that have reached the end of their lifecycle. The temperature control units and filters at some swimming pools have also been recently replaced to ensure optimal water temperature and quality for the comfort of pool users. What’s more, the electrical distribution cabinets were refurbished across all community parks, cables were upgraded and rusted doors were replaced.

Great weather means more time outside. With this in mind, the pool areas across the community recently underwent a welcome transformation with the introduction of new umbrella covers, ropes and several sun loungers.

Soak up the sun!

Energy conservation plays a key role in reducing utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions. As part of our Energy Management programme, there are plans to introduce socially and environmentally sustainable products and solutions in Emirates Living communities.

In fact, more than 3,200 street lights in Emirates Living have now been retrofitted with energy efficient LED lamps. Apart from improving lighting in the community and saving on utility bills, these new lamps are also expected to reduce maintenance costs since they have a lifespan of five years.

Marking Martyr’s Day All Emaar communities were part of the Flag Day campaign to honour the martyrs of the UAE Armed Forces who heroically laid down their lives for their nation. To express solidarity with His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the leaders of the UAE and the nation, the UAE national flag was raised at gatehouses, roundabouts and prominent locations in our communities.

PROPER GARBAGE DISPOSAL • Garbage bins should be placed within the boundary walls of your villa and not in common areas • In the interest of hygiene, it is recommended that you regularly clean your garbage bin and the surrounding area• To help reduce bad odour, tightly tie up your garbage bag before placing it in the bin• Recycled garbage will be collected once a week – recyclable items must be placed next to the garbage bin within the villa premises for collection• Dumping of any type of garbage or other waste material in common areas is strictly prohibited • Garbage collection will be done by the waste collection service provider, three times a week• For bulk waste collection, you may contact Imdaad (800 8200) or any other service provider of your choice

CARPORT USAGE AND EXTERIOR ALTERATIONS • Carports should be used for parking vehicles only – any items stored would be considered an obstruction and a violation of the Community Rules • Attaching bamboo shoots/mesh to garden doors and boundary walls is not permitted • Cabins, pergolas and canopies should not be installed without permission• Placing pots, statues, lights, fences, lanterns, basketball hoops, name tags, signs and other structures on the common area boundary wall, gates or in common areas is not allowed• Installation of satellite dishes on the roof top, balconies or in any place visible from common areas is not permitted• Enclosing balconies to extend rooms within villas is not allowed

And the EPLchampions are…The fifth season of Emaar Premier League’s (EPL) outdoor cricket tournament began in the last quarter of 2016. The tournament was played by eight teams at the ICC Academy Grounds in Dubai Sports City. The sporting event was a chance for all cricket enthusiasts to get on top of their game and concluded with Super Heroes emerging as the winners.

Multipurpose play court atMeadows 6 Street 4 in progress

New play areas: Now open in Emirates Living! After much anticipation, the long awaited play areas are ready and open for all to enjoy with recreational options for residents of all ages.

Featuring slides, climbing frames as well as fun apparatus for children to run and play, hide and explore or just wander, the recreational area is a child’s dream come true.

The improvement of the current activity area is moving ahead full steam with construction scheduled to commence shortly. A contractor has been appointed and the required safety documents are currently under review. The projected is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2017.

The outdoor fitness equipment along Meadows 9, Street 1 lake is now ready for resident use. It’s the perfect place for fitness enthusiasts to break a sweat and stay active while enjoying the view of the lake.

All set for playThe tennis court at Meadows 9 Street 9 has been finally completed and ready to serve all tennis lovers. The booking system is currently being upgraded with reservation on a first-come, first-play basis. Playtime is limited to a maximum of one hour per reservation to ensure that all residents have equal opportunity to use the court.

Basketball enthusiasts will be happy to know that the courts in The Springs have received a makeover as well, as revamped surfaces had deteriorated due to general wear and tear. Tennis enthusiasts will be thrilled too with the newly installed tennis court facility.

With so much available, there’s something to keep residents of all ages active and energetic.

With winter here, everyone will want to make the best of the weather spending more time outdoors. Unfortunately, that sentiment is shared by some unfriendly flying insects. Rest assured though, work is already underway to control and eliminate pest infestations in common areas using specialised integrated pest management companies,

Moreover, the lakes in Emirates Living are saline and do not encourage mosquito breeding. In addition, they are home to wadi fish, which were introduced a few years ago. The fish provide a natural pest control mechanism as they feed on insect larvae, thus preventing insects from breeding. Nonetheless, our service provider conducts frequent inspections across all areas of the community, including the lakes, to locate hotspots and treat problem areas with approved pesticides that are not harmful to humans, plants or pets.

Most often, mosquito infestations are traced to stagnant water inside private property such as swimming pools, water features and fountains or puddles from irrigation systems that have not been maintained. All residents are encouraged to carry out frequent inspections within their property and appoint a pest control company to conduct routine maintenance to prevent infestations that could affect the community or the neighbours.

Fright night in the communities Friendly ghouls, scary monsters, cartoon characters, creepy crawlies, cute minions and all things Halloween came alive at the annual Halloween Event and Costume Contest that took place across various Emaar communities in the last week of October.

Children had a frightfully delightful day with haunted houses, arts & crafts corners, music, candy and games in addition to food stations that served snacks and beverages. The highlight of the event was the Costume Contest, in which children participated for a chance to win prizes in various categories. This was followed by trick or treating in the villa communities, as groups went door to door to claim their candy. From the looks of it, everyone had a great time and we look forward to another fright night next year.

New community park to relax and unwindNow, there’re even more reason to head outdoors with the development of a new community park behind Emirates International School. Hard and soft landscaping has been completed making it a perfect place to take a break while cycling or walking through the community. Additionally, a total of 120 trees were transplanted from The Meadows and The Lakes communities to add to the greenery. Access to the park will be restricted to residents only via an aluminium fence.

As part of our commitment to maintain a pleasant environment, abandoned motor and water vehicles are being reported to local authorities, who are actively removing unidentified vehicles across the community that are in contravention of Community Rules and RTA regulations.

An abandoned vehicle is one that has been left unused for a long period of time or kept in a deteriorating manner, usually left behind by occupants who have moved away from the community.

Below are some tips to help identify whether a vehicle is abandoned:• Litter on or around the car suggesting it hasn’t been moved for some time • Missing number plates• Graffiti on the vehicle• A dusty and dirty appearance

In coordination with local authorities, over 15 vehicles have been removed in recent weeks either by their owners or Dubai Police.

In continuing a practice that was initiated in 2016, your 2017 Community Service Fee (CSF) Invoice will be dispatched via email only.

IMPORTANT: From January 2017, a transaction fee of AED 50 is being charged for payments made at the Tellers at the Customer Care Centre. This is an additional reason to avoid the queues and switch to paying your CSF online from anywhere in the world and at any time.
