Since 1970, the voters of the City of Seminole have elected 9 Mayors, hired 11 Fire Chiefs to manage the Seminole Fire District, and contracted with 2 City Managers, Frank Edmunds and Ann Toney-Deal, to oversee City Administration, City priorities, and City growth. In 1976, Seminole was designated as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, and in 2017 desig- nated as a Purple Heart City by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Mayorrsquos State of the City continued

Seminole City Center shopping and entertainment district The Seminole Community Library combination of a

City and St Petersburg College partnership opened in 2003 with award winning and international attention for its innovative merging of both high-end technology and digital information with traditional library collections and services Our Library is a state-of-the-art joint-use integrated facility for the public and for students

As 2020 begins the City continues to be debt-free and has not raised the millage rate on citizens for over 13 years In 2020 the City of Seminole has plans to redevelop Blossom Lake Park a wonderful neighborhood ldquopocket parkrdquo and will be initi-ating the next phase of Waterfront Park on Park Blvd including building a boardwalk along the bayou State grants have been helpful with the funding

The Seminole Public Works Complex along 70th Ave-nue oversees all infrastructure projects and the state-of-the-art Emergency Operation Center is ready for action if needed

Our future holds in store the addition of a fifth Fire Sta-tion to be located at Bay Pines We hope to add 3 Fire Lieuten-ants and a District Chief for EMS At last improvements to John-son Boulevard and Liberty Lane are on the drawing board Up-dating City signage is also being planned

The Recreation Complex will be under a re-design and re-build

Of great importance to the City of Seminole is the recent completion of a seven year Pavement Plan along with a Financial Plan sufficient to implement the Pavement Management Plan without raising taxes City-wide road and resurfacing projects are part of this pavement plan

We strive to keep the comfortable quality of life in Sem-inole by maintaining our parks and green space strive for contin-ued low crime and recognize and appreciate our highly regarded elementary schools numerous churches veterans posts and civ-ic clubs

The strong relationship between the City the Seminole Chamber of Commerce and the St Petersburg College-Seminole campus as well as the Seminole Historical Museum a gem in our community will continue to add to the diverse and interest-ing fabric of a thriving Seminole

Throughout 2020 City Management and Officials will continue to facilitate the annual Citizens Academy and the Hurri-

cane Preparedness Symposium

In 2020 numerous fun and exciting events will be sched-uled at the Library and Recreation Complex The improved Teen Room and the first city Recreation Digital Art Studio in the State (maybe the nation) will continue to be popular destinations

The elected City leaders will continue to be active mem-bers of the Suncoast League of Cities the Florida League of Cit-ies the Pinellas County Council of Mayors and the Florida League of Mayors All members of City Council will remain vig-ilant in protecting ldquoHome Rulerdquo helping to remind the 2020 Florida Legislature that ldquoLocal decisions are best made locallyrdquo and not by legislators who do not live in Seminole City Manage-ment will continue to be active with the Florida City County Management Association

The City of Seminole received the Government Finance Officer Associationrsquos Certificate of Achievement for Financial Reporting for the 21st consecutive year as well as the Govern-ment Finance Officer Associationrsquos Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 12th consecutive year Recent CPA audits reveal positive processes and appropriate and healthy fund balances over the years Our goal is to continue to receive such distinguished fiscal recognition

The Cityrsquos 50th AnniversaryBirthday Committee Chaired by Former Seminole Mayor Dottie Reeder has been working diligently over the past year to assure that every month in 2020 will be spotlighted with a special event

The first event was held on January 22 and was hosted by the Seminole Historical Museum The theme of this event was the ldquoPast Remembering the Presentrdquo A Family Fun Night was held at City Park and the first Seminole Murder Mystery Dinner Theater is scheduled as well as a Cemetery Tour highlighting Seminolersquos founding families Holloway Haven ldquoGarden Tourrdquo a Food Truck Rally Scavenger Hunt a Salute to Schools a Taste of Seminole and a Fifty Years of Dance event will all add to the Cityrsquos 50th celebration

For a ldquobig-littlerdquo cityhellipSeminole is thriving and as the proud Mayor my focus as we turn the BIG FIVE-0 will be to follow the Cityrsquos long-range plans as a guide to the future budget conservatively encourage good citizenship and participation in community outreach efforts and to work in sync with Council Management and City Volunteers to continue to strengthen im-prove and evolve into ldquoan even better Seminolerdquo

Community Development The State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Pinellas County Utilities and the City of Seminole Community

Development Department all have projects that are upcoming in 2020

As part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) commitment to safe roadways FDOT will resurface part of Seminole Boulevard The FDOT project is scheduled to begin in March 2020 Three miles will be resurfaced from 53rd Avenue N to 101st Avenue N The cost is about $6800000 and will conclude by the end of 2020 If you have any questions concerning this upcoming FDOT project please call the FDOT Public Information Officer at 813-975-6060

Pinellas County Utilities is replacing two force main wastewater pipelines to protect public health and the environment as well as improve operational flexibility The force main project cost is approximately $15300000 and is expected to start in the Spring of 2020 The wastewater collection station is in front of Home Depot and pumps the wastewater to the South Cross Bayou Reclamation Facility (SCBWRF) Underground boring and open trenching will be used down the Park Boulevard right of way The project also involves the intersection of Park Street and Starkey to 84th Lane and then runs along Park Street to the South Cross Bayou treatment plant If you have any questions about this project please con-tact Pinellas County Utilities at 727-464-4000

The City of Seminolersquos Community Development Department staff has been working to address changes and updates in Federal and State law and to implement the direction of City Council Sign codes are being updated to be consistent with a U S Supreme Court decision on local signage regulation The Land Development code is being updated to meet chang-es to State law on City regulations for agricultural uses and trees on residential property Staff is working to ensure that non-residential properties do not deteriorate and become a community eyesore by creating regulations to address mainte-nance Deteriorating non-residential construction can potentially lead to safety issues to non-compliance with FEMA reg-ulations and to complications with buying selling and insuring property The community Development Department an-ticipates completing updates by July 2020

Mayorrsquos State of the City continued

Seminole City Center shopping and entertainment district The Seminole Community Library combination of a

City and St Petersburg College partnership opened in 2003 with award winning and international attention for its innovative merging of both high-end technology and digital information with traditional library collections and services Our Library is a state-of-the-art joint-use integrated facility for the public and for students

As 2020 begins the City continues to be debt-free and has not raised the millage rate on citizens for over 13 years In 2020 the City of Seminole has plans to redevelop Blossom Lake Park a wonderful neighborhood ldquopocket parkrdquo and will be initi-ating the next phase of Waterfront Park on Park Blvd including building a boardwalk along the bayou State grants have been helpful with the funding

The Seminole Public Works Complex along 70th Ave-nue oversees all infrastructure projects and the state-of-the-art Emergency Operation Center is ready for action if needed

Our future holds in store the addition of a fifth Fire Sta-tion to be located at Bay Pines We hope to add 3 Fire Lieuten-ants and a District Chief for EMS At last improvements to John-son Boulevard and Liberty Lane are on the drawing board Up-dating City signage is also being planned

The Recreation Complex will be under a re-design and re-build

Of great importance to the City of Seminole is the recent completion of a seven year Pavement Plan along with a Financial Plan sufficient to implement the Pavement Management Plan without raising taxes City-wide road and resurfacing projects are part of this pavement plan

We strive to keep the comfortable quality of life in Sem-inole by maintaining our parks and green space strive for contin-ued low crime and recognize and appreciate our highly regarded elementary schools numerous churches veterans posts and civ-ic clubs

The strong relationship between the City the Seminole Chamber of Commerce and the St Petersburg College-Seminole campus as well as the Seminole Historical Museum a gem in our community will continue to add to the diverse and interest-ing fabric of a thriving Seminole

Throughout 2020 City Management and Officials will continue to facilitate the annual Citizens Academy and the Hurri-

cane Preparedness Symposium

In 2020 numerous fun and exciting events will be sched-uled at the Library and Recreation Complex The improved Teen Room and the first city Recreation Digital Art Studio in the State (maybe the nation) will continue to be popular destinations

The elected City leaders will continue to be active mem-bers of the Suncoast League of Cities the Florida League of Cit-ies the Pinellas County Council of Mayors and the Florida League of Mayors All members of City Council will remain vig-ilant in protecting ldquoHome Rulerdquo helping to remind the 2020 Florida Legislature that ldquoLocal decisions are best made locallyrdquo and not by legislators who do not live in Seminole City Manage-ment will continue to be active with the Florida City County Management Association

The City of Seminole received the Government Finance Officer Associationrsquos Certificate of Achievement for Financial Reporting for the 21st consecutive year as well as the Govern-ment Finance Officer Associationrsquos Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 12th consecutive year Recent CPA audits reveal positive processes and appropriate and healthy fund balances over the years Our goal is to continue to receive such distinguished fiscal recognition

The Cityrsquos 50th AnniversaryBirthday Committee Chaired by Former Seminole Mayor Dottie Reeder has been working diligently over the past year to assure that every month in 2020 will be spotlighted with a special event

The first event was held on January 22 and was hosted by the Seminole Historical Museum The theme of this event was the ldquoPast Remembering the Presentrdquo A Family Fun Night was held at City Park and the first Seminole Murder Mystery Dinner Theater is scheduled as well as a Cemetery Tour highlighting Seminolersquos founding families Holloway Haven ldquoGarden Tourrdquo a Food Truck Rally Scavenger Hunt a Salute to Schools a Taste of Seminole and a Fifty Years of Dance event will all add to the Cityrsquos 50th celebration

For a ldquobig-littlerdquo cityhellipSeminole is thriving and as the proud Mayor my focus as we turn the BIG FIVE-0 will be to follow the Cityrsquos long-range plans as a guide to the future budget conservatively encourage good citizenship and participation in community outreach efforts and to work in sync with Council Management and City Volunteers to continue to strengthen im-prove and evolve into ldquoan even better Seminolerdquo

Community Development The State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Pinellas County Utilities and the City of Seminole Community

Development Department all have projects that are upcoming in 2020

As part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) commitment to safe roadways FDOT will resurface part of Seminole Boulevard The FDOT project is scheduled to begin in March 2020 Three miles will be resurfaced from 53rd Avenue N to 101st Avenue N The cost is about $6800000 and will conclude by the end of 2020 If you have any questions concerning this upcoming FDOT project please call the FDOT Public Information Officer at 813-975-6060

Pinellas County Utilities is replacing two force main wastewater pipelines to protect public health and the environment as well as improve operational flexibility The force main project cost is approximately $15300000 and is expected to start in the Spring of 2020 The wastewater collection station is in front of Home Depot and pumps the wastewater to the South Cross Bayou Reclamation Facility (SCBWRF) Underground boring and open trenching will be used down the Park Boulevard right of way The project also involves the intersection of Park Street and Starkey to 84th Lane and then runs along Park Street to the South Cross Bayou treatment plant If you have any questions about this project please con-tact Pinellas County Utilities at 727-464-4000

The City of Seminolersquos Community Development Department staff has been working to address changes and updates in Federal and State law and to implement the direction of City Council Sign codes are being updated to be consistent with a U S Supreme Court decision on local signage regulation The Land Development code is being updated to meet chang-es to State law on City regulations for agricultural uses and trees on residential property Staff is working to ensure that non-residential properties do not deteriorate and become a community eyesore by creating regulations to address mainte-nance Deteriorating non-residential construction can potentially lead to safety issues to non-compliance with FEMA reg-ulations and to complications with buying selling and insuring property The community Development Department an-ticipates completing updates by July 2020

Community Development The State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Pinellas County Utilities and the City of Seminole Community

Development Department all have projects that are upcoming in 2020

As part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) commitment to safe roadways FDOT will resurface part of Seminole Boulevard The FDOT project is scheduled to begin in March 2020 Three miles will be resurfaced from 53rd Avenue N to 101st Avenue N The cost is about $6800000 and will conclude by the end of 2020 If you have any questions concerning this upcoming FDOT project please call the FDOT Public Information Officer at 813-975-6060

Pinellas County Utilities is replacing two force main wastewater pipelines to protect public health and the environment as well as improve operational flexibility The force main project cost is approximately $15300000 and is expected to start in the Spring of 2020 The wastewater collection station is in front of Home Depot and pumps the wastewater to the South Cross Bayou Reclamation Facility (SCBWRF) Underground boring and open trenching will be used down the Park Boulevard right of way The project also involves the intersection of Park Street and Starkey to 84th Lane and then runs along Park Street to the South Cross Bayou treatment plant If you have any questions about this project please con-tact Pinellas County Utilities at 727-464-4000

Community Development The State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Pinellas County Utilities and the City of Seminole Community

Development Department all have projects that are upcoming in 2020

As part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) commitment to safe roadways FDOT will resurface part of Seminole Boulevard The FDOT project is scheduled to begin in March 2020 Three miles will be resurfaced from 53rd Avenue N to 101st Avenue N The cost is about $6800000 and will conclude by the end of 2020 If you have any questions concerning this upcoming FDOT project please call the FDOT Public Information Officer at 813-975-6060

Pinellas County Utilities is replacing two force main wastewater pipelines to protect public health and the environment as well as improve operational flexibility The force main project cost is approximately $15300000 and is expected to start in the Spring of 2020 The wastewater collection station is in front of Home Depot and pumps the wastewater to the South Cross Bayou Reclamation Facility (SCBWRF) Underground boring and open trenching will be used down the Park Boulevard right of way The project also involves the intersection of Park Street and Starkey to 84th Lane and then runs along Park Street to the South Cross Bayou treatment plant If you have any questions about this project please con-tact Pinellas County Utilities at 727-464-4000

The City of Seminolersquos Community Development Department staff has been working to address changes and updates in Federal and State law and to implement the direction of City Council Sign codes are being updated to be consistent with a U S Supreme Court decision on local signage regulation The Land Development code is being updated to meet chang-es to State law on City regulations for agricultural uses and trees on residential property Staff is working to ensure that non-residential properties do not deteriorate and become a community eyesore by creating regulations to address mainte-nance Deteriorating non-residential construction can potentially lead to safety issues to non-compliance with FEMA reg-ulations and to complications with buying selling and insuring property The community Development Department an-ticipates completing updates by July 2020

Pinellas County Utilities is replacing two force main wastewater pipelines to protect public health and the environment as well as improve operational flexibility The force main project cost is approximately $15300000 and is expected to start in the Spring of 2020 The wastewater collection station is in front of Home Depot and pumps the wastewater to the South Cross Bayou Reclamation Facility (SCBWRF) Underground boring and open trenching will be used down the Park Boulevard right of way The project also involves the intersection of Park Street and Starkey to 84th Lane and then runs along Park Street to the South Cross Bayou treatment plant If you have any questions about this project please con-tact Pinellas County Utilities at 727-464-4000

The City of Seminolersquos Community Development Department staff has been working to address changes and updates in Federal and State law and to implement the direction of City Council Sign codes are being updated to be consistent with a U S Supreme Court decision on local signage regulation The Land Development code is being updated to meet chang-es to State law on City regulations for agricultural uses and trees on residential property Staff is working to ensure that non-residential properties do not deteriorate and become a community eyesore by creating regulations to address mainte-nance Deteriorating non-residential construction can potentially lead to safety issues to non-compliance with FEMA reg-ulations and to complications with buying selling and insuring property The community Development Department an-ticipates completing updates by July 2020

Community Development The State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Pinellas County Utilities and the City of Seminole Community

Development Department all have projects that are upcoming in 2020

As part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) commitment to safe roadways FDOT will resurface part of Seminole Boulevard The FDOT project is scheduled to begin in March 2020 Three miles will be resurfaced from 53rd Avenue N to 101st Avenue N The cost is about $6800000 and will conclude by the end of 2020 If you have any questions concerning this upcoming FDOT project please call the FDOT Public Information Officer at 813-975-6060
