PROBATION• Continuing from previous probation
• Working on raising CGPA - no previous suspension• Part time Degree student who is failing a course for the first time

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE ON PROBATION?❖STATUS is determined by your CGPA❖CGPA – Based on your performance in ALL
courses taken while at Ryerson❖If your CGPA is below 1.67 you are on
probation❖You will be required to reduce your
course load to help you to improve your academic performance

What Do I Do First?
❖Following the session, the School Program Assistant ([email protected]) will email your contract for the Spring/Summer 2020 term
❖You must sign and return by email a copy acknowledging that you understand the conditions of your contract no later than Friday, May 22, 2020
❖ It is your responsibility to add/readjust your timetable using RAMSS
❖You are academically and financially responsible for any course registration during the semester

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NEW GRADING OPTIONS❖ Request CRD for Ds and Cs
❖Will get Credit but not included in CGPA
❖Request NCR for All F grades❖Need to re-take course but not included in CGPA❖Not counted as an attempt
❖Aim to clear all INCs before May 29❖To use grading options
CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS• Maximum of 1-4 courses, depending on CGPA:
– Must achieve a Term GPA of 1.67 (C - average)
– Must repeat failures before attempting any new course
– Must contact your program advisors and instructors if experiencing academic/personal problems during the term to minimize negative outcomes
PROBATIONARY CONTRACT OBJECTIVES:
❖To achieve a Term GPA and Cumulative GPA of 1.67 or better:- results in a CLEAR standing in the next semester- If your TGPA is below a 1.67, even if your CGPA is above 1.67, you will still be Required to Withdraw or PPW
❖If your TGPA is 1.67, but your CGPA is still below 1.67 you will remain on Probation for the next semester (i.e. Fall 2020 or Winter 2021)
IMPORTANT DATES:▪Last day to ADD/DROP courses from your timetable to meet probationary contract conditions:
▪ Prior to second class (Chang School courses)
▪Last day to DROP courses (in Good Academic Standing): Spring courses: Friday, June 5, 2020
Spring/Summer courses: Friday, July 10, 2020Summer Courses: Friday, July 17, 2020
*You must consult with a Program Advisor before dropping a course, special considerations MAY be granted. If you do not have permission and drop a required contract course, you will be RTW/PPW.**Note: Please consult The Chang School calendar for individual fee assessment

COMMON MYTHS
MYTH #1“I thought I could deal with my
problems on my own”❖Past experience shows that more often than not
you can’t!❖Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help,
during the semester.❖Get advice from the appropriate “experts”
to provide guidance and support in assisting you deal with your situation BEFORE it’s TOO LATE!!
MYTH #2BUT Now I’ll be BEHIND in My Studies
❖No, in fact, contrary to popular belief students no longer finish post-secondary degrees in 4 years. As a part-time degree student, you have 14 years to finish. 8 years if you are a direct entry student. Take your time and not just finish, but finish WELL.
FACTS
FACT #1:❖Failure to meet conditions outlined in your
probationary contract will:– lead to REQUIRED TO WITHDRAW or– PERMANENT PROGRAM WITHDRAWAL for reinstated
students.– Violation of contract:
• Not adhering to University continuance policies as described in previous slides• Enrolling in more than the maximum stated number of
courses on your contract• Not enrolling in mandatory courses written into your
contract• Not achieving a Term GPA of 1.67• Not achieving a Cumulative GPA of 1.0*
FACT #2:❖If you are Required to Withdraw:
– Must sit out of the program for a minimum of 12 months– Will not be permitted to take any courses during time out– Must apply for reinstatement to program
department before deadline as outlined in Undergraduate Calendar.
– No guarantee of reinstatement.- Option for ‘Fresh Start’ – sit out one semester
FACT #3 Permanently WITHDRAWN:❖You cannot continue in the ITM program❖Cannot expect reinstatement❖You may apply for admission into another
Ryerson program, other than Ted Rogers School of Management programs, AFTER your time out.
❖May be able to get a certificate using some of the courses completed
