Mark @ Thumperstuff can fix you up. You do not need an oil gauge.....this is a low pressure system. I agree with RideFreak on the probable cause of the idle issue (proper idle is 1,100 RPM and is adjusted only by the knurled nut above the hot start button). I also agree with his comments on the CDI....itpload and gain access to select membership contentUpload your original content. The Scribd library is filled with great documents like recipes, presentations, short stories, how-to guides, and essays.s almost bullet proof. It would be unusual with this system to have timing issues. The drilling of the right side cover on the air box is a good modification. I do this on mine (3) but agree that the K&N + the drilling creates a need to re-jet. Use a throttle chop technique in re-jetting. I use masking tape on the throttle housing and the twist grip marked in 1/8, 1/4, 3/4 and full increments. Use these to determine which jet needs to be changed and in which direction the change needs to go. Stock jetting is #25 pilot and #300 main. With a stock exhaust a #30 pilot and a #310 main would be a good start with the needle raised one notch. A valuable reference for the stock carb is www.siue.edu/~rsutton/SR/mikuni.htm . The Minton mod produces good results with a less restrictive exhaust system and not so much results with the stock exhaust. For details on this modification try www.siue.edu/-rsutton/SR/carbmod.htm . As earlier suggested, your best source of information on this bike is www.SR500forum.com . Your Clymer book is good but you really need the Haynes book also.....each has info that the other does not have.I'm in South Georgia. I just returned from a 1,762 mile 5 day trip and my SR55E did not miss a beat.I wish you good luck with your SR.Henry
