ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2015-16

Dr.S. Sankaranarayanan, Principal

It is indeed my pleasure to present the Annual Day report of our college for

the academic year 2015-16 before the august audience on the occasion 56th

College day function. Blessings of His Holiness Ejaman Swamigal made this year a

successful one. I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our Patron. His

Holiness Ejaman Swamigal for his inspiration and guidance in running this

college successfully. I convey my gratitude to Srimath Sundaramoorthy

Thambiran Swamigal. Joint Head of Sri Kasi mutt for his valuable suggestions in

various activities of the College.

I articulate my indebtedness to the members of Sri Kumara Gurupara

Swamigal Agency in general and to the Secretary. Dr.S. Baskaran in particular for

their support advice in running the college.

I am extremely glad to have Dr.A. JOHN DE BRITTO, Registrar,

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli as our Chief Guest for the

College Day function.

Dr.A. John De Britto obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science

Degree in Botany from St.Joseph's College (Autonomous), Trichy. He completed

his M.Phil., Degree from the same college. Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.,)

was awarded by Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. He also obtained Master

of Psychology Degree from Annamalai University, Chidambaram and PGDCA

from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. He has completed 30

years of teaching and he has 25 years of research experience in St. Xavier's

College (Autonomous), Palayamkottai. He has completed 12 Major Projects and 7

Minor Projects funded by TNSCST, UGC, DST, CSIR, ICMR, MOEF, PWD, Tamil

Nadu and ICSSR which include both scientific and socially relevant projects. He

has published six books on Environmental Science, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics

and Personality Development. He also published 209 research articles in National

and International Journals. Under his able guidance, 27 research scholars have

been awarded Ph.D., Degree and 24 scholars have been awarded M.Phil., Degree.

He is the recipient of awards such as Best NSS Programme Officer Award by Govt.

of Tamil Nadu.

He held various positions such as NSS Programme Officer, NSS Programme

Coordinator of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Dean of

Science, Dean of Research, Member in Academic Council, Board of Studies,

Governing Body, IQAC, NAAC, CPE etc., He is a motivational speaker and trainer

and he has trained students and staff of various schools, colleges and other

institutions. At present he is the Registrar of Manonmaniam Sundaranar

University, Tirunelveli. I am indebted to him for readily consenting to be the

Chief Guest for this function. A warm welcome to you sir.

Commencement of the College

The College reopened on 18.06.2015 after summer vacation. Orientation

programme was given by the Principal, Heads of the Department to the First year

students on .

Independence Day Celebration

Independence Day was celebrated in the College Campus with flag hoisting

by the Principal on 15.08.2015.

Founder's Day Celebration

In commemoration of the College founder Thiruvalar Thiru Arulnandi

Thambiran Swamigal Founder's Day was celebrated on 25.08.2015. On that

Auspicious day Dr.P. Velammal, Associate Professor of Tamil, Sri Parasakthi

College for Women, Chief Guest delivered her lecture effectively.

International Yoga Day Celebration

International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21.06.2015 in our College. N.S.S.

Programme officers, Volunteers, Students were actively participated in the

programme. Yoga Master Mr.S. Selvakumar, Yoga Master trained all through

different facets of Yoga.

Eye Campaign

One day camp (01.10.2015) was organized in Collaboration with Agarwal's

eye Hospital, Tirunelveli. Free Eye Check up was given to the people in an

around Padmanabhamangalam.

Inter Collegiate Kho-Kho tournament

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Inter Collegiate Kho-Kho

tournament for women was organized by our college from 15.10.2015 to

17.10.2015. Girls students from various colleges not only enjoyed the

competition but also extended their Heartfelt thanks to the college for their

hospitality, accommodation and sumptuous meals during their stay inside the

college premises.

Elocution competition

An elocution competition was conducted on 30.12.2015 on the title

"Fundamental Duty of voters".

Republic Day Celebration

Republic Day was celebrated on 26.01.2016 in the College Campus.

Principal hoisted the National flag. An inspirational and motivational speech

delivered by our Principal on that day. He insisted the members of staff to

dedicate themselves for the developmental activities in the college.

Blood Donation Camp

6 volunteers from our college have donated their Blood in Thoothukudi

Medical College Hospital on 28.02.2016.

Special N.S.S Camp

Special Camp was organized for inclusion of New eligible voters, as

directed by the Election Commission of India on 10.03.2016 & 11.03.2016.

Voter's awareness Rally

Our Principal, Revenue Department officials, N.S.S. PO's volunteers and

members of staff have participated in the "Voter's awareness Rally held at

Padmanabamangalam Village on 24.03.2016.

International Women’s Day Celebration

International Women's Day was celebrated enthusiastically and

energetically on 28.03.2015 in our College successfully.

Strength of the College

The Total Strength of the College is 832 in which 484 are girls and 348 are

Boys. In this academic year 318 students are admitted in the first year.

Doctoral Degree Awarded For This Academic Year

Mr.L.Ravisankar, Assistant Professor of Physics was awarded Ph.D. on

23.01.2015 by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

Mr.P.Murugan, Assistant Professor of Economics was awarded Ph.D. on

30.07.2015 by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

Under the guidance of Dr.P.S. Jayekumaranthambi, Associate Professor of

Zoology, Sri KGS Arts College, Srivaikuntam two candidates were awarded Ph.D.,

Degree.

Under the guidance of Dr.S. Muthukumaraswamy, Head and Associate

Professor of Botany, Sri KGS Arts College, Srivaikuntam, two candidates were

awarded Ph.D Degree.

Under the guidance of Dr.S.Muthiah, Head and Associate Professor of

Commerce, Sri KGS Arts College, Srivaikuntam three part time scholars have

submitted their Ph.D thesis in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli

during this year 2015-16.

Under the guidance of Dr.V.M.Selvaraj, Associate Professor of Commerce,

Sri KGS Arts College, Srivaikuntam two part time scholars were awarded Ph.D

from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and one time part time

scholar has submitted his Ph.D. thesis in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University,

Tirunelveli.

Dr.K.Petchimuthu, Assistant Professor of Botany run the minor research

project entitled “Documentation and Conservation of wet land biodiversity” in

Arunchunai Katha Ayyanar Chunai, Thoothukudi District.

It is a proud privilege to state that our faculty members not only

involved in research activities but also they have abiding and keen interest to

participate and present papers in National and International level seminars

and conferences to inculcate and impart their knowledge to compete with the

outside world.

We encourage our faculty members to present their research work for

To conclude my annual report let me express my profound gratitude to

Important events of this academic year College re opened on 16-06-2014

Independence Day was celebrated 0n Aug. 15.

Founders Day was celebrated on 4.09.14. Dr. M.Kannan , H.O.D. of Tamil, Adithanar

college of Arts and Science delivered the key note address.

Dr. K.S.Chandrasekar retired from services on super annuation. Principal and the staff

members lauded the services rendered by him and a send off meeting was organized

on 31.10.2014.

Minor research Project:

Rs. 3,15,000 is sanctioned by U.G.C. for the minor research project proposal submitted

by Dr. K. Petchimuthu, Asst. Prof. of Botany.

Events:

The Inter collegiate level Tournaments for Kho-Kho and Kabadi (MSU - Women ) were

organized in our college.

Blood donation camp was organized in our college on 9.2.15 and around 50 students

and staff donated blood.

Massive campus cleaning programme was organized on 6.02.15

Samathuva pongal vizzah was celebratwed on 24.1.15

Republic day was celebrated on 26.01.15

Ms. C.Geetha, English Department was awarded with Ph.D.

Mr. A. Thiyagarajan , Dept. of Physics submitted his thesis for Ph.D.

Staff members of various Departments attended and participated in various seminars

12 Faculty members presented research articles in various national/international level seminars Five papers were published in various journals with impact factors ranging from 0.8 to 3.5 Faculty members participate in Refresher and Orientation Programmes.

Two research candidates Under the guidance of our Faculty submitted their Ph.D. thesis.

Our college staff members serve as member of board of studies in various universities

and autonomous colleges. They served as nodal persons and chair persons in various

national level conferences.

Student Activities:

Students participate in seminars and conferences held at various other institutions.

R.Bhuvaneswaran II B.A. participated in the NSS mega camp held at Majuli, Assam.

S.Ruban Daniel II M.A. won gold medal in University level Marathan

Our college Kabadi team (Men) stood fourth in the intercollegiate level events.

S. Arumuga laksmi, N.Subbythai, C.Muthumalai and A. Esakkiammal won the 2nd, 3rd, 4th

and 5th place in the university level weight lifting events.
