Description of content: Aniline is used in dyes industry, rubber processing chemicals,herbicides etc. It is the starting material for many azo dyes. It is also used in themanufacturer of other intermediates as acetanilide, acetoacetanilide, aminoazobenene,methyl aniline, diethyl aniline, dimethyl aniline etc. The BIS standard of Aniline specifiesthe distillation range, assay (percent by mass, minimum 99olo) and maximum content ofNitrobenzene etc. So it is imperative to make the standard mandatory to protect thehuman health. So the locally manufactured or imPorted Aniline shall conform to the Indianstandard (IS 2833:f973) and shall bear the standard mark under license from the Bureauof Indian Standards (BIS). Bureau of Indian Standards and District Industries Centre of theState Govemments shall be the enforcing authority.

1. Short title and commencement. - (1)This Order may be called the Methanol (euatity Control)Order, 2019.

(2) This Order shall come into force on the one hundred and eighty first day from the date of itspublication in the Official Gazette.

Compulsory use of Standard Mark.- Goods or articles specified in the column (1) of the Tablebelow shall conform to the corresponding lndian Standaid given in the column'(2) of the saidTable and shall bear the Standard Mark under a license fromthe Bureau of lndian Stanaards asper Scheme-l of Schedule-ll of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018:

. Provided that nothing in this order shall apply in relation to goods or articles, as specified inthe column (1) of the said Table, meant for export, which conform-to ttre specificailon iequired bythe foreign buyer.

Description of content: Methanol is used as solvent in organic reactions, as fuel,Denaturant, Bio diesel via trans-esterification. High purity methanol is required for themanufacturer of antibiotics. The Indian standard prescribes maximum content of Alkalinity(as NH3), Acidity as acetic acid, Aldehydes and ketones as acetone, Sulphur anjcompounds of sulphur etc. so the locally manufactured or imported Methanol shall conformto the Indian standard (Is 517:1986, Reaffirmed 2013) and shall bear the standard markunder license from the Bureau of Indian standards (BIS). Bureau of Indian standards andDistrict Industries Centre of the State Governments shall be the enforcing authority.
