WARNING:

1) Flashing your SSD should not result in data loss. However, OCZ recommends you back up your data as a precaution before proceeding.

2) OCZ Toolbox does not support firmware updates of SATA III SSDs that are running as the primary drive (Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Agility 3, Solid 3, RevoDrive 3, RevoDrive 3 X2, Octane, Octane S2, and Petrol). Please install the SSD as a secondary drive when updating the firmware. An alternative firmware update method is utilizing the OCZ Toolbox (PC Bootable) and booting off a USB drive/CD to update the primary SSD. See “Updating your firmware with a drive that cannot be updated as a primary drive” section for more details.

3) The SATA controller must be set to AHCI mode in the BIOS to utilize the Toolbox.

4) We recommend using Microsoft AHCI drivers for the Toolbox to be properly recognized.

5) Updating your firmware with the Toolbox is not supported under Windows XP.

6) Always download the latest OCZ Toolbox version from: http://ocz.com/consumer/download/firmware

7) An internet connection is required for the firmware update.

Our firmware updates are designed to enhance the performance of your drive . If you would like to update the firmware on your drive to the latest officially released version, this guide explains the proper procedure for Windows. You can check the firmware version number in the device manager or BIOS.

SSD Toolbox/Firmware Update Guide for Windows

SUPPORTED SSDs: • SATA III 6Gb/s: Vector, Vertex 4*, Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Vertex 3.20, Agility 4*, Agility 3, Agility 3.20, Solid 3, Synapse Cache, Octane* and Petrol*

• SATA II 3Gb/s: Vertex 2, Vertex 2 Pro, Vertex 2 EX, Vertex LE, Agility 2 and Octane S2

• PCIe: RevoDrive 3, RevoDrive 3 X2 and RevoDrive Hybrid

*Vertex 4 and Agility 4 (FW v1.3 & v1.4RC), Octane (FW older than v1.13) and Petrol (FW older than v3.12) are destructive firmware flashes. Proceeding with a firmware update will result in complete loss of data on the SSD. Please refer to http://ocz.com/consumer/download/firmware for the latest updates on which SSDs contain destructive FW flashes.

1. Select your SSD.

2. Once a SSD is selected, the Tools, Security, and Details buttons will become available.

Inside the zip file, there will be a single EXE file; no installation is necessary. The file can be unzipped to the desktop. If running Windows 7 or Vista, you must run the program as an Administrator. Unless UAC (User Account Control) is disabled in Windows 7/Vista, simply being logged in on an Administrative account is not enough, you MUST right click the file and click “Run as Administrator”. Alternatively, you can right click and choose properties, then tell the program to always run as an Administrator under compatibility.

Note: An internet connection is required for firmware update.

1. To update your firmware, select the “Tools” menu. Click on “Update Firmware”.

2. A pop-up window will appear, Click “Yes” to confirm firmware update.

NOTE: If your SSD currently contains the latest firmware version, this pop-up window will appear as seen below. Firmware update is not necessary.

4. The firmware update process has been completed successfully.

3. You will see a progress bar as the Toolbox performs the firmware update process.

5. To power cycle your drive, simply shut down your system and power it back on.

Updating your firmware with a drive that cannot be updated as a primary drive:

OCZ Toolbox does not support firmware updates of SATA III 6Gb/s SSDs that are running as the primary drive (Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Agility 3, Solid 3, RevoDrive 3, RevoDrive 3 X2, Octane, Octane S2, and Petrol).


An alternative method is to utilize the OCZ Toolbox (PC Bootable). Please download the latest PC Bootable Toolbox from the following link:

Secure erasing your drive:

The Toolbox also features the ability to secure erase your drive. Note: All data will be erased and the drive/NAND will be reset to a “fresh out of Box” state. This function is still dependent on the system you are using it on. Some chipsets/BIOS will have the drive in a frozen state. Normally, a reboot will clear this state, but this not always the case.

1. To secure erase your drive, select the “Security” menu, then click “Secure Erase”.


2. A pop-up warning will appear as seen below, click “Yes” to confirm deletion of data.
