HSE introduces new arrangements for online reporting of injuries and incidents

Businesses will still be able to notify fatal and major incidents and injuries by phone following changes to reporting arrangements. From 12 September 2011, all other reportable work-related injuries and incidents under RIDDOR (the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995) will move to a predominantly online system, with a suite of seven forms available on HSE's website to make the statutory reporting process quick and easy.

In a move to improve efficiency further and deliver value for taxpayers, HSE's Infoline telephone service, which currently provides a basic information service to callers, will end on 30 September 2011.

The seven online RIDDOR reporting forms will be: o F2508 Report of an injury o F2508 Report of a Dangerous Occurrence o F2508A Report of a Case of Disease o OIR9B Report of an Injury Offshore o OIR9B Report of a Dangerous Occurrence Offshore o F2508G1 Report of a Flammable Gas Incident o F2508G2 Report of a Dangerous Gas Fitting

Worker killed In trench collapse near Whitstable School

A man working on a building site close to a primary school in Kent has been killed after a trench collapsed on him. Police and the air ambulance were called to Bridgefield Road, Whitstable, on 7 April 2011 at 12:55 BST but the 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The young man from Canterbury in Kent is believed to have been working in a 6ft deep trench for sewer pipes when the sides collapsed. Despite attempts to dig the man free, paramedics were unable to save him. The Health and Safety Executive is investigating, assisted by Kent Police. Officers arrested a man on suspicion of corporate manslaughter

We have been speaking to TraffiGlove, working towards making all our sites „TrafficGlove‟ sites. It works on a 3 colour system:

Red offers cut level protection level 1

Amber offers cut level protection 3

Green glove offering cut protection level 5 This is designed so that at a glance the site manager will be able to identify if the operative has the correct degree of protection in relation to the task being undertaken.

Upon receipt of a list of national suppliers, Audas will be rolling out Traffigloves across thier sites. We have trialled the Amber glove with Floorform at Teesside recently receiving positve feedback . John Alexander from Floorform commented that “in comparison to other gloves used previously, this range of goods are exceptional”. Further information can be sourced at: www.traffiglove.com

Health Surveillance

We have recently completed 3 days of

health surveillance on site at the Manchester

Urban Exchange Project in conjunction with

M&S’s health screening

pilot programme. Approximately 20

people participated in the screening which tested hearing, skin

inspections, and lung function. Audas would

like to thank the contractors who took time out of their busy

schedule: Johns of Nottingham; DB Green

& Sigma of Leeds.

The results will be sent

out to each individual & a general report will be

issued to M&S

pilot programme. Twenty people

Clean up of

Rochdale Canal

Volunteers from our site delivery team at the Urban Exchange project participated in a half day ‘clean up’ of a section of the Rochdale canal adjacent to the site.

The team lead by our project manager – John Thompson cleaned up litter from the banks of the canal, carried out substantial weeding and generally improved the overall aesthetic appeal of the stretch of canal adjacent to the Urban Exchange site works. The efforts by John & his team were in an attempt to improve the image of construction & leave a positive message to neighbours of our project.

Audas & ‘Recycling Lives’

Audas is delighted to be currently working in association with the ‘Recycling Lives’ charity during refurbishment works at the M&S Preston Deepdale project. The charity acts as a safety net for vulnerable people who could have been homeless or long term unemployed individuals in our society. The programme offers them: an opportunity to make a positive change in their life; comfortable accommodation; training up to academic qualifications; work experience to gain priceless life skills, all with the aim of helping them back into full timework.

Audas & the ‘Insect Hotel’

Our project team at the M&S Preston Deepdale project have excelled themselves in the build of an innovative ‘insect hotel’. The insect hotel shown is constructed entirely from recycled materials; the main structure comprising of used pallets. Some wild invertebrates, such as bumblebees and solitary bees, are declining in numbers in the wider countryside, so by providing homes we can contribute to their conservation. The insect hotel, constructed late July is sited adjacent to our site cabins and is already proving to be a ‘hotspot’ with many species of insects.

Phil Brown has just completed the 10 month LEAD leadership programme

taking an integrated approach to both the development of the business and

the personal development of the owner manager. The programme tackles

practical issues rather than focussing on theoretical concepts thus having a

direct impact on the growth of the delegate’s business and their leadership

skills.

Past delegates have credited the course with having a significant impact on their business, with over 90% of delegates confirming an increase in turnover and an impressive rise in profit growth.
