The Sisters extend a warm welcome toindividuals and groups to come andshare with them in their life and prayer. There are regular services of morningand evening prayer, Eucharist andcompline in our chapel. Please call StJohn’s House for the times of theseservices.
How are we supported?
The Sisters’ ministry in the Diocese ofBritish Columbia is supported in part bythe Diocese who provide ouraccommodation and a contributiontoward our food; in part through thehonoraria that the Sisters receive fromthe mission work that they do withinthe Diocese; and in major part from thefinancial support received fromParishes, our Associates and Oblates, individuals, friends, and organizationswho value the religious life within thechurch.

Who Are We?
The Sisterhood of St. John the Divine isa contemporary expression of thereligious life for women within theAnglican Church of Canada.Founded in 1884, we are a prayer andgospel-centred monastic communitybound together by the call to liveout our baptismal covenant. Nurturedby our founding vision of prayer,community, and ministry we are openand responsive to the needs of the church and the contemporary world,continually seeking the guidance of theHoly Spirit in our life and ministry.
Called to be a sign of Christ, theSisterhood witnesses to the power ofChrist’s reconciling and forgiving lovethrough the gospel imperatives ofprayer, spiritual guidance, justice,peace, care for creation, hospitality,ministering to those in need, promotingunity, healing and wholeness.
The Sisterhood of St John the Divine atSt John’s House in the Diocese ofBritish Columbia are a community ofSisters committed to being a prayingpresence in the Diocese, by providing ahouse of prayer, hospitality and worshipwith the context of St John’s House, BC. Intentional community, prayer,hospitality and mission are at the heartof their life.
What do we do?
The Sisters’ ministry of prayer andpresence includes:< intercessory prayer for the Diocese< visiting and praying with
congregations throughout theDiocese
< speaking about the Religious Lifeand providing opportunities forothers to share in our life-style
< leading retreats, quiet days, andworkshops; and preaching
< discernment around vocations< spiritual direction< participation on committees,
leadership teams and as resourcepersons for Diocesan and Parishevents
< as time and opportunities allow,outreach to other western dioceses.
< some involvement in local inner cityoutreach work
The Sisters in the Diocese of BritishColumbia also provide support to ourAssociates in BC, Alberta and thePrairies Provinces.
Where are we?
The home base for our Sistersministry in the diocese of BritishColumbia is at St. John’s House, BC onSt. Peter’s Road, Victoria. The house isthe rectory of St. Peter’s LakehillAnglican Church, and is on the sameproperty as the Church. Near one ofthe main intersections in Victoria,McKenzie and Quadra, it is located on a main bus route, and witheasy access to both the airport, BCferries, and downtown.
