Safe Sport Zone
Interscholastic sport continues to increase in participation and fan base.
Almost everyone values high/middle school athletics. Never in the history
of our country do we need our students more involved in after-school
educational based activities, working with professional people to keep our
kids off the streets and off the couch. Student engagement has become
exceedingly important in many school districts because research tells us that
it connects the student to the classroom.
A contemporary trend among sport spectators is to ignore the boundaries
of sportsmanship and act in ways that are disruptive, inappropriate, and
potentially dangerous. Indicators tell us that we are going to continue to
experience more behavioral problems in our society and in our after-school
events.
It is with these issues in mind that Safe Sport Zone has designed an educational safety program for athletic events which is supported and
endorsed by the NFHS and the NIAAA, and is aimed at insuring a safer environment by training schools/school district personnel. We are
asking for your assistance and support for a program aimed at keeping our athletes, students, parents, coaches, staff, officials and fans
in a safer environment while attending our high school games.
Recent events, such as the tragedy that took place in Newtown, Connecticut, show the need to focus on the current approach to safety
and security. With that being said, the issue of safety and security throughout school districts and youth sports within the United States
is generating a lot of meaningful discussion. School districts, now more than ever, are looking to take action and find solutions to protect
and ensure the safety of their students and staff.

Exclusive Corporate Sponsorship
As a corporate sponsor, along with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association you will have the national exclusivity
on all the Safe Sport Zone training materials. American Family will be provided all information from event attendees, including:
Printed Media Collateral
An appointed representative is encouraged to join Safe Sport Zone at events and
meetings to develop new connections and build American Familys clientele. This
will provide American Family with access to everyone that Safe Sport Zone services
nation-wide. This includes parents, school officials and staff, athletic directors, and
coaches.
Over the last year, Safe Sport Zone has encountered various states that are looking
for life insurance options and would need to build their premiums into their
membership. An American Family representative would be able to explore different
insurance options with potential clients.

The Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, with over 400 athletic directors in the state of Wisconsin, would like a quote on life insurance
for their members. The premium would be a part of their membership dues. An example, from another state, the premium was $3.00 to
$5.00 dollars, for $5,000 in life insurance. Safe Sport Zone could also offer this package to other associations in the eighteen states where
American Family Insurance is located.

Safety Courses
1. Corporations want a return on their investments. We feel that not only
would sponsoring a safety training program be well accepted in the public
eye, but we also can provide contact information of those attending the
training.
2. Safe Sport Zone provides a certificate of attendance upon completion
of the training. The document is an important piece of evidence showing
that the attendee successfully completed the safety training session and
became more knowledgeable in the field of contest management.
Certificate of Completion
First, Jay Hammes, CMAA who has presented
at our conference for the past two years on
the Safe School Zone, will return this year
to offer an Event Safety Certification Course.
This 2-hour workshop will be presented on
Wednesday afternoon from 2-4pm. At the
completion of the course each participant
will receive a certificate of completion.
The cost for this course is being mostly
underwritten by American Family Insurance,
and the remainder by our Association as a
member benefit. So, the only thing required
on your part is to be an active member and
register in advance. The registration form is
located on our website. Jay is well regarded
in this field and given recent events this is a
great opportunity to show our districts that
we are being proactive in making certain that
our athletic contests are safe and enjoyable
for all involved.

Proactive Approach on Safety
3. Over the years, courts have consistently ruled that school administrators must exercise reasonable standard of care. Their duty is to
provide a safe environment that encompasses all aspects of developing and executing a strategic plan.
Having a certificate acknowledging that the school personnel or athletic administrator successfully completed the safety training
workshop is very valuable. This training would be sponsored by American Family Insurance.

way and gymnasium in the country. We believe the posters will be seen by a minimum of 1.65 million
people a year attending high school events and improve the overall expectations at our games.

The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association preserves, enhances and promotes the

Since 1920, The National Federation of State High School Associations has led the development of education
based interscholastic sports and activities that help students succeed in their lives. We set directions for the
future by building awareness and support, improving the participation experience, establishing consistent
standards and rules for competition, and helping those who oversee high school sports and activities. The NFHS,
from its offices in Indianapolis, Indiana, serves its 50 member state high school athletic/activity associations,
plus the District of Columbia. The NFHS publishes playing rules in 16 sports for boys and girls competition and
administers fine arts programs in speech, theater, debate and music. It provides a variety of program initiatives
that reach the 18,500 high schools and over 11 million students involved in athletic and activity programs.
