Fr. William Garrott, O.P. of the Dominican Friars will visit Precious Blood Parish during all Masses at

St. Mary Church on the weekend of August 19-20 as part of this year’s archdiocesan mission appeal. Fr. Garrott invites all parishioners to become spiritual partners with the Dominican friars who serve in the

mission in East Africa. There, the Dominican Friars are engaged in the work of evangelization and faith development in a poor and underserved region where the Faith is very new. Their mission depends on the support of the faithful here at home. Your generosity is appreciated

Parking will be available for the MILFORD

OYSTER FESTIVAL on Sat., Aug. 19 starting at 10AM in St. Mary parking lot ($5), the proceeds of which benefit K of C charities.

As summer rolls along, here are some things to call to your attention, and some summer thoughts. This week we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15. There will be two Masses at Saint Agnes on Tuesday, one at 9:00 AM and one at 12:10 PM. There will be four Masses at Saint Mary, one on Monday at 6:00 PM, the vigil of the Feast Day, and three on Tuesday;

7:00 and 9:00 AM and 12:00 noon. We hope you can take advantage of one of these times to worship with us on this Holy Day of obligation. We will be looking to schedule a calendar meeting for all parish groups from both Churches during the last week in August. We need a representative from each parish group present at the meeting so a calendar of events for the year can be worked out, with as few conflicts as possible. We hope to be able to honor each group’s wishes and needs for their events. The meeting will be held Wednesday, August 30, at 7:00 PM, at Saint Agnes Church Hall, 400 Merwin Avenue. We will endeavor to contact each group individually so all are informed of the need to attend. Just a note about the collection report that appears in the bulletin each week. The number reported is the total collection of the two Churches. The number appears at the bottom of the second column since that is where we have room for it in the bulletin, and reflects the total of the past weeks’ collection for the parish. Here in Precious Blood Parish, as of this writing, we have had 26 funerals since July 1. It is heartening to see such support from you, our parishioners, for these families in their time of loss. We hope these grieving families continue to find comfort in our parish community, and we ask your prayers for all

those affected by these recent deaths. Do not hesitate to contact any of the parish clergy if you need additional spiritual support or know someone who does. As the summer winds down, and we all get in the last few beach days, my prayer for each of you is that God’s peace will find you; that His peace will touch

your heart. May the warmth of the summer sun remind us all of the love of the Son for each of us.

GOD LOVE YOU—Ven. Fulton J. Sheen

“To love what is below the human, is

degradation; to love what is human for the

sake of the human, is mediocrity; to love

the human for the sake of the Divine, is

enriching; to love the Divine for its own

sake is sanctity.”

DEFENDING OUR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

When revising the current federal health

care bill, the United States Conference of

Catholic Bishops is asking Congress to

address the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA)

moral deficiencies and challenges with

long-term sustainability. Problems with

the ACA should be fixed with more narrow reforms

and in a bipartisan way.

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.

Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and

their families for the selfless acts they

perform for us in our time of need.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

ATTENTION anyone interested in teaching

Religious Education: We are presently seeking

volunteers to teach in our Rel. Ed. Program. Class

days and times are being finalized. If you have an

interest in helping form the faith of our young

parishioners, please contact Tori Saxer or Cindy

Phelan through the Rel. Ed. Section of our website.

Thank you.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

The demands of family can be so overwhelming we

feel walking on water would be easier. When Jesus

was pressured, He dismissed everyone, so He could be

“by himself and pray.” When overwhelmed and

stressed, go to a quiet place and surrender your

pressured feelings to the Lord using Peter’s prayer in

today’s gospel: “Lord, save me.”

New Day 10-Week Bereavement Program will

begin on Thurs., Sept. 28 from 1:00-3:00PM. We

will meet in Fr. Cronin Hall at St. Mary Church

every Thurs. until Dec. 7. Anyone coping with the

loss of a loved one, recently or years ago, is

welcome. To register please call Margaret, 874-

2376 or Ellen, 283-1934.

ADULT CONFIRMATION

Anyone wishing to be part of an Adult Confirmation

class to be held here in August, please contact Deacon

John at 878-2571 to let him know of your interest. If

you have been baptized, made your First Communion,

but have not been confirmed, you are eligible for this

class. Confirmation would be anticipated in the fall.

ATTENTION those who have expressed an interest

in becoming funeral planners for our parish. Watch

your email for a notice about options for upcoming

meetings for training and explanation of the funeral

planning ministry.

Precious Blood Parish, at both St. Agnes Church and

at St. Mary Church, is in need of altar servers. If you

are a student who is entering fourth grade or

older, and have made your first communion,

you are eligible. We are compiling a list of all

who might be interested and we are looking to

do training in late Aug. or early Sept. Fill out

an application through the parish website

(preciousbloodparishmilford.org); under Parish

Life section, click on Liturgy and scroll down to find

an application for each church. You will receive an

email back informing you that your form has been

received, and then another email telling when and

where training will be held.

The St. Mary Choir returns from summer

break to begin the 2017-18 season with

rehearsals Sept. 7 at 7PM in the choir

loft. The choir is open to all members of

Precious Blood Parish, regardless of skill

level or experience. It is multi-generational and sings

regularly at the 10AM Sunday Mass as well as special

services throughout the year. There is no audition—

we only ask that you bring a willingness to learn, to

make new friends, and to enjoy making music. We

look forward to seeing you there!

Next week is BLOOD PRESSURE Sunday. The parish nurses will be in Father

Cronin Hall after morning Masses to give you a free, accurate reading.
