St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement
St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic community
dedicated to celebrating the life and word of Jesus
Christ. All are welcome to deepen their spiritual and
personal lives through active participation in weekly
Liturgy, the celebration of the Sacraments, Parish
ministries and community activities. Acknowledging
our incompleteness and our need for God’s grace, we
commit ourselves, through Baptism, to responding to
God’s call to become and grow as disciples of Jesus
Christ in our time. Jesus Christ is at the center of all of
our lives.

Dear Parishioners,
Faith and resurrection are strong themes in our
readings today.
In our Old Testament reading from Maccabees, we
hear the story of the seven brothers and their mother who
died for their faith and belief in the resurrection. Shortly
before his death, the fourth son said, “It is my choice to die
at the hands of men with the hope God gives of being raised
up by him.” In his letter to the Thessalonians, Saint Paul
reminded them that “The Lord is faithful; he will strengthen
you and guard you from the evil one.”
In the passage we hear today from Saint Luke’s
Gospel, Jesus responded to the Sadducees’ trick question
with God’s message of salvation. “That the dead will rise
even Moses made known in the passage about the bush,
when he called out ‘Lord,’ the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead,
but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
Where are we in our own faith journeys? How
courageous are we when tested on our faith?
I had the privilege many years ago of working with
Rev. John E. O’Brien, a priest of the Archdiocese in
Newark. Writing for Renew International, he reflected on
today’s readings. “Christ challenges us to live each day in
the present and the as yet to be fulfilled resurrection. Jesus
tells us in John that if we live and believe, we will never
die. That faith and life begin now and that faith is
concerned with present life and present belief. The same
God of the living (and my life) will not cease being faithful
in the life to come after death.”
During November we remember the souls of the
faithful departed. Like them, let us strive to be faithful
servants of the Lord here on earth so as to be with God
forever in heaven.
In faithful service,
Jacqueline Alworth
Pastoral Associate for Faith Formation
