My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!
Jesus ascends into heaven, but He speaks to us just before He ascends that “I am with you always, until the end of time.” How does He remain with us? He continues His life in the sacred mysteries He has left us, especially in the Eucharist. So we congratulate our First Communicants, we thank their parents for leading them to this amazing font of God’s Life among us, and we praise God for His goodness that Jesus is still among us and will be until the end of time and the final day of Resurrection! This mystery of the Institution of the Eucharist is one of the new Luminous Mysteries of the Holy Rosary, and Jesus’ Ascension is the second mystery of the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary.
Jesus ascends and promises to be with us, and the Holy Rosary of our Blessed Mother Mary helps us focus on His Presence among us. Meditating and praying the mysteries of the Rosary is another way that Jesus keeps His promise that He is with us always, until the end of time. As we also remember and thank our mothers for their beautiful role in passing on life to us, we as a Church family remember our Mother Mary and meditate on her Life in her Son Jesus, especially through the powerful prayer of the Rosary of our Mother Mary.
Because the structure of the Rosary is based on the Scriptural prayers of the Our Father and the Hail Mary, which is the Angelic Salutation of the Archangel Gabriel and the greeting of St. Elizabeth to pregnant Mary, we can say that the meditative prayer of the Rosary has been in use all through the centuries, from the time of the apostles and disciples down to the present. But it was only in the year 1214 that the Church received the Rosary in its present form and according to the method we use today. It was given in this form to Mother Church by St. Dominic who received it from the Blessed Virgin as a powerful means of converting the Albigensians and other sinners. St. Dominic saw that people’s attachments to sin were preventing conversion of sinners and of unbelievers like the Albigensians to see the Mercy and Love of God in Jesus. St. Dominic prayed and offered penance for conversion. He withdrew into a forest near Toulouse in France where he prayed unceasingly for three days and three nights.
At this point, Our Lady and Mother Mary appeared to St. Dominic, accompanied by three angels, and said: “Dear Dominic, do you know which weapon the Blessed Trinity wants to use to reform the world?” St. Dominic answered, “Oh, my Lady, you know far better than I do because next to your Son Jesus Christ you have always been the chief instrument of our salvation.”
And Mary replied, “I want you to know that, in this kind of warfare, the battering ram has always been the Angelic Psalter which is the foundation stone of the New Testament. Therefore if you want to reach these hardened souls and win them over to God, preach my Psalter.” Mary’s “Psalter” is the 150 Hail Mary’s, like the 150 psalms, that are prayed meditating on the five Joyful Mysteries, the five Sorrowful Mysteries, and the five Glorious Mysteries. And so, in Toulouse, began the spread of this most amazing prayer of our Mother Mary and our Mother Church. So fervently and compellingly did St. Dominic explain the importance and value of the Holy Rosary that almost all the people of Toulouse embraced it and renounced their false beliefs. In a very short time a great improvement was seen in the town; people began leading Christian lives and gave up their former bad habits.
This prayer of the Rosary has lost none of its beauty and power over the past 800 years. With the new five Luminous Mysteries recently presented by Pope St. John Paul II as additional mysteries of Jesus to meditate upon, the Rosary continues to be a source of grace for those who pray and for those for whom we pray the Rosary! These new mysteries focus on the Baptism of Jesus, on the Miracle of water changed to wine at the wedding in Cana, on Jesus’ Proclamation of the Kingdom of God and His Call to Conversion, on His glorious Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor, and on the Institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. May we continue, together with our new First Communicants, to live in and meditate upon the Living Presence of Jesus in Mary, in the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, and through the gift of His Body and Blood in the Eucharist!
In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

Pray the Rosary in the Month of May In this month of May, I would like to recall the importance and beauty of the prayer of the holy rosary. Reciting the Hail Mary, we are led to contemplate the mysteries of Jesus, that is, to reflect on the key moments of his life, so that, as with Mary and St. Joseph, he is the center of our thoughts, of our attention, and our actions. It would be nice if, especially in this month of May, we could pray the holy rosary together in the family, with friends, in the parish, or some prayer to Jesus and the Virgin Mary!

Intención de Misa. Para Todas Las Madres Presentes y Ausentes.
Sagrada Familia. Familia Rodríguez.
De Parte de Nuestro Párroco Rev. Gregor Gorsic y La Oficina del Ministerio Hispano, Deseamos a Todas Las Madres
un Feliz Día De Las Madres. Felicidades!

Please call the parish office by Monday at (815) 886-4165 for the name of your loved one to be placed for 3 weeks on our short term prayer list. Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or homebound and in need of communion.
Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s — it doesn’t hurt to say it a few times, either! Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us, too, at the office, ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!
A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION CATECHUMENATE
The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.
BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT MARRIAGE
Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.
ORDERS Those seeking assistance in discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to call the parish offices.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING RECONCILIATION
Reconciliation is available each Saturday afternoon, 3:00pm, Wednesday evening, 5:45-6:45pm, through seasonal communal services, and by appointment.
ANOINTING Anointing of the Sick is offered through seasonal services, and always by request. If hospitalized, please immediately seek anointing from the Catholic chaplain.
BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS
Submissions are usually due Fridays at noon, nine days prior to publication. Send to [email protected]. Some early deadlines apply during the holidays.
